Naturally, right after reading that far, I opened the community window to check the gallery…

    And sure enough.

Title: All You Bastards Who Called Me Brain-Dead and Stupid, Come Out and Bow Your Heads

    I won’t wait long

All of you shut up and kneel, you idiots

    Comments:

    -[WTF how is this possible]

-[I couldn’t have predicted this, damn it]

-˪[But you were wrong, weren’t you? You’re the idiot, right?](Author)

-˪[Pathetic trash, your poor analytical skills are completely exposed, aren’t you embarrassed?](Author)

-˪[Argh damn it, this is infuriating]

-[How did they guess this correctly]

    -[Is this the legendary post?]

-˪[Please give me an SSS-rank after 100 pulls]

-˪[That’s not here, you need to go to the post the author screenshotted]

    -˪[Oh]

The person who had shared this information was now expressing extreme anger toward users who had treated them like idiots.

Surprisingly, as the most unrealistic opinion turned out to be exactly right, a wave of defeatism was spreading throughout the gallery.

Of course, regardless of the initial shock, since the event announcement was such a major development…

I set aside my curiosity about how other users might be reacting in the gallery and decided to continue reading the announcement.

As I read on, it felt like…

The developers were basically telling the users, “Had a good time until now? Time to suffer!”

    <Full Announcement>

    <<<‘Grand Cross’ Event Notice!>>>

<Information about the ‘Grand Cross’ event for our Commanders!>

<From the distant past, the Titan-class mobile fortresses ‘Grand Cross’ created by the Ancient Empire have awakened from hibernation and begun their activities!>

<These mobile fortresses called ‘Grand Cross,’ built using entire planetary systems, possess three incredibly powerful Stellar Engines and a black hole at their center.>

<And using gamma-ray bursts from that black hole, they attack with the ‘Grand Cross Cannon,’ sharing the same name as the fortress, giving them extremely powerful area bombardment capabilities!>

<Naturally, inside the Grand Cross mobile fortress, a vast number of unmanned drone fleets are either dormant or on standby.>

<For detailed information about the Grand Cross fortress, please refer to the Wiki tab in the gallery!>

    <‘Grand Cross’ Event Guide.>

    <The event will proceed in 3 stages.>

    <Stage 1>

<For a massive mobile fortress to operate, advance fleets and vanguards must first clear the path.>

˪<In Stage 1, each Commander will fight against fleets designated as ‘vanguards’.>

˪<These fleets will basically follow a 1:1 principle with Commanders, but if Commanders are docked at a stronghold.>

˪<Additional fleets will respawn to engage with the defensive fleet of that stronghold, so please take note.>

˪<As they are ‘vanguard’ fleets, Stage 1 will not include super-large vessels larger than medium battleships.>

    <Stage 2>

<Following the vanguards, large-scale unmanned escort fleets approach to protect the mobile fortress.>

˪<Unlike the vanguard, these fleets are centered around ‘super-large vessels’ including medium battleships.>

    ˪<Stage 2 combat is a large-scale battle with up to 1,000 Commanders participating.>

˪<The battle will take place on a separate event map, with occasional supporting bombardment from the ‘mobile fortress’.>

    <Stage 3>

<With the annihilation of the vanguard and escort fleets, the automatic extermination function of ‘Grand Cross’ has finally targeted the Commanders.>

˪<This is a boss raid battle against the Titan-class mobile fortress ‘Grand Cross’.>

˪<Stage 3 combat does not take place on the event map, but in reality.>

˪<The Grand Cross is equipped with numerous carrier-based aircraft and vessels, so be cautious in battle.>

˪<The fortress’s main cannon, the Grand Cross Cannon, cannot be used when approaching or entering the fortress.>

<Detailed information will be provided in one week when the event begins.>

    —————————————–

“This is quite a unique event.”

“Yeah… first the existing map, then an event map, and then back to the existing map… fighting here.”

I guess our developers haven’t had a ‘combat’ event for nearly three months and have only been doing non-combat events.

I nodded with satisfaction at the robust event content that gave me the distinct feeling that they had been sharpening their knives.

However, unlike my sentiment, some users expressed dissatisfaction with the event’s progression…

Title: Why does the mobile fortress come last, with weak fleets at the front?

    Author: Anonymous

Content: [Full screenshot of event announcement.jpg]

    Does this make any sense?

I’d understand if the fortress didn’t move

But when a fortress bigger than most strongholds can even move, why do ships need to go ahead and get blown up by users?

    Are the developers idiots?

    Comments:

    -[It’s a game, idiot]

-˪[Obviously they need to do it step by step for balance]

-˪[So for the sake of realism, you want users to face that fucking awesome black hole cannon-firing insane ultra-massive mobile fortress right from the start?]

-˪[Do you want the event to end as soon as it begins?]

-˪[When you put it that way, I guess you’re right](Author)

-[Look at how pissed off the comment above is]

-[As always, anonymous users with the killing blow lol]

-[But seriously, if they threw the mobile fortress at us first, how would we even handle it? lol]

    —————————————–

Trying to push “realism” inappropriately, only to get thoroughly beaten down by other users asking how they’d handle a mobile fortress with insane capabilities (evident even from the brief description in the announcement) right from the start.

Anyway, apart from users like that, the rest showed quite positive reactions to the event.

And for good reason, because shortly after the announcement…

As mentioned in the notice, an explanation about the Grand Cross was uploaded to the ‘Wiki tab,’ giving everyone at least a brief understanding of what it actually was.

Title: Explanation of Titan-class Mobile Fortress ‘Grand Cross’

    Author: Wiki Historian mk-16

Content: [Concept art of Grand Cross, big and beautiful.jpg]

Got info from the devs and had it verified

This is one of the super-massive weapons created by the ‘Ancient Empire’ that appeared in a previous event, so everyone knows about it

There are even crazier things besides this, but many are treated as MacGuffins in the setting book, so I won’t mention them here

    Anyway, what is this thing?

According to the setting, it’s an ancient weapon that has been in emergency shutdown for a very long time

Its main cannon, the Grand Cross Cannon, is an insane weapon that uses an entire planetary system

The barrel consists of planets moving in orbital paths

When it detects a target while orbiting, the planets align and transform into a massive ring structure

Then the three stars at the center of the planetary system transform to activate the black hole in the center used for firing the main cannon

It uses the gamma-ray burst from this, manipulated through the barrel formed by the planets, to fire a literal beam that destroys everything

Besides this main cannon, there are asteroid belts and various defensive fortresses and facilities on the planets themselves

Finally, shipyards and space fortresses like our bases float around normally maintaining their orbits within the planetary system

    What does this mean?

During infiltration, we’ll have to break through defense lines incomparably stronger than regular strongholds

And after breaking through, we’ll be greeted by defensive fleets far more numerous than at strongholds

    Comments:

-[Holy shit what am I looking at]

-[Wait, is this seriously a fucking awesome planetary system-scale mobile fortress using Stellar Engines?]

    -˪[Yes, that’s correct](Author)

-˪[And the planetary system is several times larger than our solar system lol]

-[They mentioned three stars, what does that mean?]

-˪[It’s exactly what it sounds like, there’s a mini black hole at the center of the planetary system for the main cannon](Author)

-˪[And around it, three red giants maintain appropriate orbits so they don’t get sucked into the black hole, while being used to power the Stellar Engines](Author)

    -˪[Hoeeee damn]

-[So is this the largest ship in the game now?]

-˪[Not really, there are much larger ones in the setting]

    -˪[???]

-˪[There’s also something called a Galaxy Invasion Ship]

    -˪[What the hell is that?]

-˪[Now is not the time to discuss that]

    —————————————–

    And seeing that…

I started to wonder if our developers had sharpened their knives a bit too much.
