Ch.522The Calm Before the Storm.
by fnovelpia
After shouting “Princess Luca’s personality(?) is amaziiiiing!!” in that manner.
It was only after being here for a full 4 years that I finally decided to select a proper “faction deployment force” for the first time.
Of course, this action of mine earned me looks from not only Jessica…
“Commander Icarus, you’re finally using this option.”
“…Hmm.”
“It took quite a while.”
…but also a subtle glance from Oxianor that seemed to say “you caught on rather quickly.”
Anyway, while receiving those looks, the “real” monster faction deployment force that I selected was roughly structured like this…
—————————————–
<Commander ‘Icarus’ Faction Deployment Force Status>
<Faction: ‘Space Monster’>
<Available Points: 550/550>
<Current Fleet Status: No issues>
<Fleet Composition>
˪<5 Battleships>
˪<10 Heavy Cruisers>
˪<3 Light Cruisers>
˪<30 Assault Ships>
˪<40 Destroyers>
˪<52 Patrol Ships>
—————————————–
‘Perfect.’
It showed exactly the concept combination that comes to mind when thinking of a “fleet.”
“Hmm, just the right level.”
“The balance between large and small ships is spot on.”
“Indeed, this will be quite useful when fighting with the mercenary corps.”
“That’s right.”
I nodded with satisfaction at what seemed like a pretty good combination.
However, there remained one subtle problem with this fleet…
“By the way, Commander, who’s going to command that fleet?”
“Huh?”
“Why, I will of course. It’s the ‘Monster Faction Deployment Force,’ so naturally I’ll be in charge.”
“Oh my.”
That’s right.
Unlike the “hobby fleets” we had been using until now, this particular fleet could only be operated by Oxianor from a system perspective.
The problem was that while our Oxianor is an all-purpose superhuman capable of everything from close combat to ranged combat, internal infiltration prevention, surveillance, and adjutant duties, among other things…
—————————————-
<Oxianor>
<Level 58>
<Type: All-purpose>
<Characteristics: Monster, Bombardment, Biological Mutation, All-purpose Cells, Area Domination, Enhanced Control Ability>
<Stats>
Health: S-
Attack Power: SS+
Physical Defense: SSS-
Mana: A
Magic Defense: SS
Mobility: C-
—————————————-
“But Icarus Commander, unfortunately I’m not good at fleet operations, so I ask for your understanding.”
“Sigh.”
Although her abilities and stats had improved in many ways since I last checked…
‘I don’t know how to command fleets, lol.’
Our Oxianor was structured in such a way that, regardless of her other capabilities, she absolutely could not handle fleet operations.
“Come to think of it, the balanced fleet composition is probably because of that.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
While Oxianor herself might feel somewhat wronged from her perspective, honestly, that assessment wasn’t wrong.
Oxianor beside me displayed what looked like at least dozens of emotions on her face, revealing her rather complex feelings.
But truly, as Jessica said, the structure of the faction deployment force was literally designed for situations where the “commander” doesn’t know how to command a fleet.

Title: Tip) How to understand the structure of faction deployment forces.txt

It’s very simple, so I’ll briefly go over it
While it’s said to be random, it’s not exactly random
Right before you recruit ships for your faction deployment force, check your base’s faction envoy
Look at their stat window
If they have “commander” type characteristics, specialized fleets matching that faction’s tendencies will appear
And if the commander has additional command-related characteristics?
Then a separate fleet matching those characteristics will appear
But here’s where everyone gets confused
“Our envoy doesn’t have command characteristics and is just a combat or buff character, so what happens then?”
In this case
You get a perfectly balanced fleet that strictly maintains middle ground in everything
For real
[Proof shot of an envoy with no command-related characteristics.jpg]
[The fleet commanded by that envoy, a completely balanced fleet.jpg]
[Proof shot of an envoy with mobility-related and attack-related command characteristics plus ‘commander’ trait.jpg]
[A fleet specialized in mobility and attack, matching the above characteristics.jpg]
Here’s the proof
Comments
-[Oh, so it wasn’t completely random]
-˪[It is random, but it just follows tendencies](Author)
-[So there’s no case where an envoy who knows nothing gets a siege-type fleet?]
-˪[Haven’t seen such cases, probably due to balance issues](Author)
-[Interesting story]
-[Wait, wasn’t it completely random or developed by the faction itself?]
-˪[That changed a long time ago, about 3 years before we got here]
-˪[3 and a half years, so really long ago]
-˪[Ah, OK]

After reading the wiki post that confirmed my thoughts,
I nodded and decided to welcome the newly(?) acquired Monster Faction Deployment Force.
==========
And while proceeding with all that…
‘Wait a minute, come to think of it, that’s why the Monster Faction acted so confidently.’
At this point, I realized a new fact.
Because, although it’s somewhat embarrassing to say…
“Despite having overwhelmingly fewer forces compared to the other two factions, there was a reason they were so confident.”
“Right? From the monsters’ perspective, it’s like they’ve been given the Princess’s personal guard fleet.”
As Jessica said, compared to Marian’s Pirate Union (including the gunship Eclipse and part of the Armada, totaling 100,000 ships) or…
The Earth Federation (with the Leviathan Squadron doubled event, their interim government + their own base), they were acting proud about providing just 20 battleships +α.
Realizing that they could mobilize additional forces at any time, I could feel a truly impressive sense of admiration toward the monsters.
==========
Anyway, while doing various miscellaneous things like that…
Although lacking the impact of Pashtra and Lepan due to their smaller size…
“H-how is it, Commander…?”
“Is this the diagonal quad-core that oppa wants?”
“Oh.”
Still, thanks to their pirate pouches and adjutant pouches that rank among the top, I spent time with Marian and Jessica performing seductive diagonal quad-core attacks.
After living such a leisurely and pastoral life for about a week—specifically, about 1 month and a little over 1 week after the “4th Anniversary Event” ended…
“How peaceful.”
*sip*
Just as I was enjoying my Earl Grey tea with sugar cubes that Jessica had prepared, as always…

<Global Announcement>
<<<New Event Notice!>>>
<Announcement for all Commanders!>
<One week from now, an update including the ‘Grand Cross’ event will take place!>
<Detailed information about this event will be posted in tomorrow’s announcement, so please stay tuned!>
—————————————–
‘Whoa.’
It’s been over a month since the last event ended, so I guess it’s time for a “no-date” story.
Seeing the announcement for the new event, I felt extremely excited.
But that feeling only lasted for a moment.
“…Jessica, have you ever heard of something called Grand Cross?”
“No, this is the first time I’m hearing about it too.”
Realizing that this event was different from the ones I had experienced before, from a time “before” I existed,
I immediately put everything else aside and decided to first open the wiki tab to quickly gather information.
