Ch. 51 Boss Room
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 51 – Boss Room
–
Following Ulrika into the building, there were more people than usual.
Even though it was only a little over ten people, it was a significant number compared to the times I came and went to learn mana sensitivity.
Why are so many people gathered here? Surprised by the unexpected crowd, I pulled my hood down further and stuck close to Ulrika.
“Um, is there something going on today?”
“More people than usual, right? We found a boss room.”
“Ah, a boss room…”
“We’ve been staying on the 5th floor for quite a while, so now we can go down to the 6th floor.”
The way to go to the next floor of the dungeon was very simple. Find the boss room located somewhere in the vast dungeon and defeat the boss residing there. Then, an entrance to the next floor would open immediately.
I’ve never seen it myself, but according to the Dungeon White Paper, the ground would sink and a large staircase would appear. Someday, when I go down to the 2nd floor, I’ll be able to see that staircase for myself.
Anyway, now that they’ve found the boss room, it made sense that people were gathered.
I nodded, understanding, and then suddenly remembered something I was curious about and asked.
“Then, Hosanna and Ulrika will be going down too, right?”
“Yeah. Defeating the boss is one thing, but we also need to gather information about the 6th floor. We’ll probably be staying down there for a while.”
As Ulrika said that, he sighed and muttered as if he had a headache.
“I’m most worried about how much camping we’ll have to do this time.”
Camping. Come to think of it, Hosanna also took out camping gear as if it was natural when I first met him. Well, there’s no way there would be a hotel in the dungeon, so camping would be essential to stay for several days.
Wait, then if I go down a floor, I’ll have to camp too? …Suddenly, I don’t want to go down the dungeon.
Having to sleep in a place that isn’t a comfortable home, but is open on all sides, and where monsters might attack at any time. That’s terrible…
“We’re here.”
While I was thinking about this and that, Ulrika announced our arrival. I quickly looked up and saw the door of the President’s office, which I was familiar with from going in and out a few times.
“Ah, thank you for showing me the way.”
“No need to thank me. I don’t know what you’re going to talk about with the master, but do your best.”
“Ah, yes…”
After guiding me, Ulrika coolly went down the stairs without looking back. I looked at his back and then turned my head to look at the President’s office.
Somehow, even though I saw him yesterday, I feel nervous seeing him alone. I took a short breath and then carefully raised my hand and knocked quietly.
Knock knock-
[Come in.]
“Gasp…”
Hosanna’s voice, which was more blunt than usual, made me swallow my breath.
Did I arrive at a bad time? I hesitated and carefully asked.
“Um-Um. Should I… should I just go back…? You don’t seem to be in a good mood…”
[…Huh? Is that Mari knocking right now?]
“Y-Yes…”
He’s the one who called me in the first place. Why is he asking that? As I was thinking to myself, the door burst open with the sound of hurried footsteps.
I gasped and took a small step back, and Hosanna said with a puzzled expression.
“Mari? What’s going on so early?”
“Yes, yes? H-Hosanna, you were the one who called me…? Ulrika told me so…”
“No, well, I did, but I was going to call you in about an hour. I didn’t think you’d be awake yet.”
That was true. If it were a normal day, I would still be asleep at this time.
As I was nodding, Hosanna’s expression frowned slightly and he asked.
“I told Ulrika to come in an hour too, did that bastard wake you up and bring you here because he didn’t want to wait?”
“Ah, no! Absolutely not! Um, I just happened to wake up early and was going to the dungeon earlier than usual, and Ulrika happened to be passing by and called me…!”
“Is that so? Then that’s a relief.”
Ulrika almost got an unnecessary misunderstanding. I sighed in relief as his expression started to ease again after I hurriedly defended him, and then Hosanna added.
“Well, anyway. Let’s go inside and talk. We could do it standing, but there’s no need to, right?”
“Ah, yes.”
I bowed to Hosanna, who opened the door wide and made space, and then went inside.
Remembering the last time I came, I sat down in a suitable place and a cup was placed in front of me. I thanked him for the familiar shape and familiar contents and then carefully lifted the cup and sipped.
“Hooa…”
The cafe mocha I drink at the cafe is good, but Yuika’s juice, which I haven’t had in a long time, wasn’t bad either.
As I was enjoying the lingering sweetness that went down my throat smoothly, Hosanna, who was also holding a cup, sat across from me and said with a smile.
“Even though you were listless until yesterday, seeing you going to the dungeon from this time of day, it seems like something has changed in your mind?”
“Ah, um, well… I guess so…”
“That’s a great thought. It would be even better if that thought lasted for a long time.”
“I’ll do my best…”
Is it just my imagination that I feel like I’m being lectured? As I answered while shrinking my body, Hosanna put down the cup he was sipping.
“The reason I was going to call you today isn’t anything special. You probably saw it on the way, but there are more people than usual, right? Did Ulrika explain it to you?”
“Ah, yes. They found a boss room and are going to attack it…”
“That’s right. We’re going down to the 5th floor as soon as the preparations are finished. And as soon as we defeat the boss, we’re going to enter the 6th floor right away.”
“It’ll take longer than usual…”
“I don’t think it’ll take as long as you think. About ten days, unless something happens. It could be shorter if we suddenly die.”
“I see…”
But what does that have to do with me being here? Hosanna seemed to know that I had such a question and immediately got to the point.
“Anyway, it seems like it’ll be hard to pay attention to you for a while. So I’m thinking of helping you with everything I can this time.”
“Yes? What, what does that…”
“Let’s solve both making the second core here and modifying the doll before we go.”
While I was panicking, Hosanna opened his inventory and took out two large leather pouches and placed them on the table. Just looking at the heavy sound they made as they were placed, I could guess how heavy the contents were.
But Hosanna didn’t stop there and untied the tied entrance to show the inside.
“Uwah…!”
It was full of sparkling gold coins. I was covering my eyes with both hands at the dazzling sight when Hosanna opened another pouch to show me.
“Gasp…”
This time it’s mana stones? There were so many stuffed into the pouch that it was hard to count how many there were.
As I was looking back and forth between the two pouches with a dumbfounded expression, Hosanna said.
“600,000 gold and 400 mana stones. You said it costs 30,000 gold and 20 mana stones each time you make a core, so you can try it a total of 20 times.”
“A-Are you giving this to me…?!”
“Why, what’s wrong?”
“Rather than strange, I wouldn’t say I understand…”
Of course, Hosanna had thrown 200,000 gold at me when we met in the dungeon, saying something about investing, so I knew the general flow.
But I didn’t really understand if I was worth that much. Honestly, I can’t use great magic like Hosanna, and all I can do is handle dolls a little…
As I was muttering with a burdened expression, Hosanna leaned back in his chair and said.
“You don’t understand… Do you really need to understand? You can just think of it as ‘good is good’ and accept it.”
“I-I don’t think there’s any kindness without a reason…”
“That’s right. This isn’t just giving you something because I like you. I’m supporting you because I have a purpose.”
“A purpose…?”
“I told you before, right? I want to go back to my original world as soon as possible.”
“Y-You did…”
I was happy to be able to enjoy the fantasy I had longed for, but he said that his desire to return to his original world was stronger. I remembered that he didn’t show any longing for his hometown for someone who said that.
As I nodded, Hosanna continued.
“To be honest, I think the power is enough with me and the people on the lower floor. If you just think about catching monsters. The problem is finding the boss room.”
“Finding the boss room… you mean?”
“I don’t know if you know, but we’ve been staying on the 5th floor for a month now.”
Come to think of it, I had seen in the Dungeon White Paper that they were having a hard time finding the boss room. I didn’t pay much attention to it because I thought it had nothing to do with me.
“Dungeons, you know. The further you go down, the bigger it gets? But I thought the boss room would be in a normal place… The boss room that was discovered this time was in a really amazing place.”
“Where was it…”
“Underground. Underground.”
“Underground… you mean?”
Certainly, if it was found underground when it had only been on the ground until now, I would have been amazed.
Hosanna sighed and continued.
“And the entrance was like a pit. We actually knew about it, but we didn’t care because we thought it was nothing special. Except for the rope we put up so we wouldn’t fall.”
“B-But how did you know that was the entrance to the boss room…”
“It’s nothing. Some idiot didn’t want to walk back to town, so he jumped off.”
