Ch.4[Episode 4] Gacha Land Area 0

    System Industries.

From the end to the beginning!

This was the first phrase Sir Dominic saw at the entrance of System Industries.

“Isn’t it usually from beginning to end?”

System Industries was the core of Gachaland, yet surprisingly, the building was located on the outskirts.

No matter how arbitrary Gachaland might be, it was still a place where people lived.

According to the company’s statement, they stepped back and observed from a distance because they weren’t the protagonists, but in reality, it was because the land was too expensive and tax issues were complicated.

This was something he learned while organizing the knowledge that had been fed to him on the way here.

However, regardless of where this building was located, Sir Dominic was mesmerized by the terrifyingly bizarre structure.

    “How… is this even possible?”

The System building was made of glass on all sides, but it momentarily transformed into metal, then changed to stone and wood.

Yet its foundation remained glass, with the peculiarity that one couldn’t see inside at all.

There was also an elevator visible in the towering building, but the elevator remained stationary while the building itself moved.

While standing perfectly still on the ground.

It was difficult to describe this bizarre sight in words.

Even though Sir Dominic was describing exactly what he saw, he himself could hardly believe it, so those who haven’t seen it might call his account a lie.

The brilliantly towering building was equally bizarre.

“Excuse me, do you have business with our building?”

Sir Dominic was startled by someone’s voice.

    This was the second time.

No matter how distracted he might have been, he was someone who had sharpened his senses on battlefields throughout his life.

Yet someone had approached without triggering his awareness.

    This was unusual.

A middle-aged man in a blue uniform with a blue cap appeared. His cap had “Security” written on it, and unlike others entering System Industries, he looked quite sturdy and robust.

“Ah, are you here for an interview?”

The security guard’s expression changed from wariness to a bright smile.

Since Sir Dominic was surprised, he unconsciously nodded.

“Wow, it’s rare these days to see someone so diligent, coming this early. You’re a good person. Really good.”

The security guard chuckled and said to Sir Dominic.

“By the way, which department are you applying for? Coder? Office work? Or are you going to be my junior?”

Sir Dominic pondered for a moment after hearing the guard’s question.

But his deliberation was brief. Sir Dominic decided to be honest.

“Actually, I just came looking for a job without any specific plan.”

    “I see.”

The security guard looked at Sir Dominic.

But his expression remained bright, and he shrugged as if it didn’t matter.

“Well, according to regulations, you wouldn’t even get an interview, but we’re always short-staffed anyway. You’ll probably get one right away.”

The security guard continued with a friendly smile.

“So, is there a department you’re interested in? Security? Looking at that sword, I’d say security is perfect for you.”

Sir Dominic thought carefully, but since he had used his body more than his head throughout his life, the area with potential seemed to be one that required physical work.

“Where do I go for the security interview?”

    “You passed.”

    “Pardon?”

    “I said you passed.”

The security guard shook the hand of the bewildered Sir Dominic up and down.

“Security interviews are different from company interviews. And I’m the only interviewer for the security department.”

The security guard—no, the security interviewer—handed over a piece of paper with a bright smile.

    A paper labeled “Contract.”

“You made a good choice. Compared to those professional or office jobs over there, we use our bodies more and earn a bit less, but we leave work on time and have full benefits. Above all, you start as a permanent employee.”

Sir Dominic didn’t know what “full benefits” or “permanent employee” meant, but he understood from the interviewer’s tone that these were good things.

Where he came from, there was no concept of insurance or permanent employment.

“We get paid on the same day. It’s three days from now. So, would you like to start working three days early and get paid for those extra days? Or you can rest for three days and start then.”

The security guard, clearly delighted about getting a new junior, chattered non-stop.

Not giving Sir Dominic time to think.

Sir Dominic considered again. But it was an unnecessary deliberation.

Sir Dominic wanted something to pass the time now, and rather than waiting until three days later, he thought it would be better to wait those three days and then break through 2-4 to join a circle.

“I’ll start right away. What do I need to do?”

At those words, the security guard smiled kindly again.

    A moment later.

“Remember three things. First, day security. This is easy. Stand at the company entrance, check people coming in and out, and occasionally catch suspicious individuals.”

Suspicious individuals. Sir Dominic couldn’t quite grasp it.

Sensing this, the security guard told Sir Dominic:

“There are people who look obviously suspicious. So suspicious that you’d think so at first glance. Ah. There’s one right there. Lucky us.”

The security guard took a sip from a tumbler of black liquid that appeared from nowhere and casually pointed somewhere.

As Sir Dominic followed the trajectory of his hand, there was indeed someone who looked suspicious to anyone.

A skinny build with anxious eyes.

Baggy clothes that didn’t match the frame. Should they even be called clothes? They looked more like fabric wrapped around haphazardly.

A hunched back from being extremely intimidated and eyes that kept moving around as if constantly checking for something.

A fuse was slightly protruding from under the clothes, dragging along, and there was a rattling sound with each step.

This person truly looked suspicious to anyone.

“Here he comes again. You should know this too. Among ourselves, we call him the Bomber. He shows up every month with a homemade bomb strapped to his body.”

Saying this, the security guard strode toward the suspicious Bomber.

“Excuse me, but I’ve told you that unauthorized explosives are not allowed.”

The Bomber was startled. Then, with a trembling voice, he said smoothly:

“Why are swords and guns allowed, but, but why not explosives?”

    An unexpected response.

As if confirming the security guard’s statement that the Bomber visited regularly, the relationship between the security guard and the Bomber seemed far from professional.

“Well, it’s because cleaning up is a hassle. How many times do I have to tell you that’s been the rule since the cleaning ladies went on strike?”

There was no mention of bombs being dangerous, or of it being an act of terrorism against the company.

Their conversation was both mundane and absurd.

“Ugh. That’s why I said I’d use a method that leaves no residue when it explodes. I’ve been trying to complete this quest for two years now. Two years.”

“Look, I understand your predicament. But why did you choose the Bomber trait and make things hard for yourself? And do you think I don’t know about that quest? Why our company of all places?”

“Well, this is the only company that won’t sue me legally.”

    Their conversation became increasingly intriguing.

Sir Dominic didn’t understand some of the sentences, but the situation was amusing, so he just watched.

“Anyway, just go today. I’m in a good mood because a new junior joined, so let’s keep things pleasant. Understand?”

“Ugh. I guess I have no choice. But in return, can you turn a blind eye next week?”

“Come on, let’s not do that.”

Somehow they seemed to have reached an agreement, and the suspicious Bomber left the building.

The security guard returned to his post with an exhausted face and a sigh.

“Phew. It’s good that he’s reasonable, but it’s the most draining thing. Hey junior, where was I? Ah. Second.”

The security guard continued, answering his own question.

Sir Dominic didn’t have a chance to say anything, but he was curious about what came next, so he kept quiet.

“Two, night security. This is also easy. However, the interior of System Industries is a bit complex, so at first, you’ll need to carry a map. Even the original employees get lost sometimes because they’ve patched the company.exe file so many times.”

The security guard gave Sir Dominic a map. It was initially small, about the size of a handkerchief, but as he unfolded it, it became larger than his body. And there were still more parts to unfold.

“No one memorizes it all, and there’s a separate security system in place, so for night security, just focus on the area around the entrance. Oh, and don’t lose it, that’s important.”

He said with a serious face.

“It’s not for sale, so you’d have to get another one from the information desk. The desk staff hate it because it’s a hassle.”

Surprisingly, it wasn’t about confidentiality or anything like that.

Sir Dominic carefully folded the map and put it in his pocket.

The security guard was muttering quietly, “They don’t do much work but they’re annoyingly strict.”

“Anyway, the last duty is emergency work. Cleaning up the mess made by coders or programmers. Other things you should know are that there are no separate lunch or dinner times, so you need to bring a lunchbox, or the location of the bathroom—”

Just as he was saying this, a tremor suddenly came from the upper floor.

Sir Dominic immediately drew his sword from its scabbard.

His reflexes kicked in during the crisis situation.

Unlike the tense Sir Dominic, the security guard gritted his teeth with an annoyed expression and muttered quietly.

    “Ah, what now… really.”

“What on earth is this tremor?”

“Emergency work. Ugh. Well, that’s convenient. I can claim extra pay for emergency duty.”

The security guard sighed and got up from his seat.

He drank the remaining water in his tumbler in one gulp and headed for the door.

Actually, he was about to leave but stopped momentarily to look at Sir Dominic.

“You’re really something. How does this happen on your first day? Just follow me.”

And he opened the door and went outside.

    Sir Dominic followed behind him.
