Chapter 48. Symphonia Conquest (6)
As if determined to take everyone down even if he died, the gorilla demon who had been laughing with intense ecstasy suddenly collapsed.
Complete with a mouthful of blood.
As a bonus, he was flailing his arms in the air as if in a state of panic.
“The, the spell has been broken!”
Harry’s shout brought me back to reality. I was zoning out for a moment.
The mid-rank demon, who appeared to be among the highest tier, was easily neutralized.
This Totem of Confusion, it’s quite something, isn’t it?
Did I just pull off something incredible?
Lakye, who assessed the situation fastest, approached the gorilla and stabbed its neck with her curved blade.
Whether because the skin was too thick or because of the abundant muscles, it didn’t cut through in one go.
“Wh-what happened?”
“What’s going on!”
The other barbarians were still in a state of bewilderment.
The Totem of Confusion effect only activates on enemies, so allies can’t notice anything. That must be how it works.
I feel like I should say something here.
– Kneel. This is the eye level between you and me.
I just blurted out whatever came to mind.
Wait, why is this the only thing I could think of?
Though I suppose there’s nothing more appropriate to say in this situation.
“Ohhh!”
“It’s Lord Malak’s power!”
“Lord Malak subdued him!”
“Even mid-ranks can’t stand against him!”
“Who dares oppose Lord Roa!”
See? They’re absolutely thrilled with just one line from me. Great reactions.
This might be an internet meme, but it’s actually a really cool line.
Should I try “You’re slow. Even at falling” next?
…No. Let’s stick with just the first part.
“Unnecessarily tough bastard.”
Lakye, who had been sawing diligently, finally cut off the gorilla demon’s head completely.
The ape king who ruled Symphonia thus turned to ashes and disappeared.
The orangutan and two demons who had been heading our way stopped with bewildered expressions.
– Let’s deal with those guys first.
Three low-rank demons are now easy prey for our tribal federation.
“I’ll handle this.”
Lakye stood up after dusting herself off.
Minor wounds had already been healed by my healing totem.
The tribal federation warriors blocked their escape routes. Almost all the worshippers were dead.
The three demons could only roll their eyes, unable to move in any direction.
They were beaten to a pulp and turned to ashes.
***
The fierce conquest of Symphonia ended in victory for the tribal federation.
There were casualties, but fewer than expected.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call this an overwhelming victory.
I activated the healing totem all day to heal the severely wounded warriors.
– I’ll rest for a while.
Now I’m collapsed from exhaustion.
Ah, I’m just fucking tired. Why am I so tired when I don’t even have a physical body?
I just want to sleep deeply.
Come to think of it, I sleep well despite not having a body.
Can you sleep without a body? Isn’t sleep a means to relieve physical fatigue?
Well, there’s no way to know even if I think about it.
Anyway, since I’ve been given rest time, I’m going to relax properly for the first time in a while.
Let’s leave the cleanup to the tribal federation leadership, except for Lakye.
The reason I excluded Lakye is because she’s currently sleeping leaning against Totem #1.
Everyone seems to understand this level of slacking off.
After all, Lakye worked the hardest during the war.
“You should go inside to sleep, why do you always sleep next to Lord Malak? I hope bugs bite you.”
Paya doesn’t seem to understand, but whatever.
Lakye, breathing heavily in her sleep, looked completely comfortable.
Feeling Lakye’s warmth, I connected to the community.
Strictly speaking, even this activity isn’t just for fun.
It’s all to protect the community users from Charon’s evil clutches.
[MorningTentInstaller: I’m Becoming a Barbarian] (4)
MorningTentInstaller decided to stay with the Gray Mist tribe.
I received a few private messages about this, but I was too lazy to read them.
Let me take a quick look.
[MorningTentInstaller: Thanks UltraSansMadWithMoonlightMassacreMode! I’m really going to try hard now]
[MorningTentInstaller: I’m slowly learning the barbarian language. It’s easier than English]
[MorningTentInstaller: My name is Siwoo. Kim Siwoo. I’m from Korea]
Well, since we’re going to live together anyway, I hope he behaves himself and doesn’t troll like last time.
Siwoo, I hope you live a healthy, happy, and long life in the tribe~!
[CorruptPowerKnight: Is there really no one who joined Dina’s special forces?] (3)
[UsingPresidentsPower: Look. This is the true nature of worshippers. Do they really think those things are human like us?] (1)
[TrustedMonkeyUncle: Real-time discovery of genital-knight…furry low-rank demon…truly bipedal anthropomorphic animal] (11)
[LoveDeathMeow: (Greeting again after a long time) Meow meow meow~!] (5)
[GenitalPaladin: Is everyone eating well~! Stay. Healthy. Everyone~!]
As always, it’s full of useless content.
Ah, it feels like home. Smells like Earth.
While information sharing is important, I think this coziness is the true value of the community.
It might be the only sanctuary in this world full of all kinds of threats.
It would have been even better without that bastard Charon.
Now that I’ve healed a bit, let me organize the information I’ve gained.
I opened the message window again as a notepad.
I recently found out that you can send messages to yourself.
Like KakaoTalk’s private chat. Perfect for use as a notepad.
[Demons]
The low-rank demons I’ve met so far, except for the chimpanzee and orangutan, were all about the same level.
Even the rabbit that died after being hit by one fireball was a speed-specialized type, generally a sufficiently threatening opponent.
In Paladin terms, it would be about level 3, wouldn’t it?
[Low-rank demon: 3~]
The chimpanzee demon held up well despite being low-rank.
It faced Berserker Kanto and five of the tribe’s best warriors alone.
If normal Kanto is barely level 3, and Kanto with some berserker stacks is about 3.5, then the chimpanzee must be around level 4.
That orangutan was also very skilled with javelins. It could deliver multiple strikes as fast and destructive as a catapult.
Let’s say it’s also level 4.
[Low-rank demon: Between levels 3-4]
George said you need to be at least level 5 to safely take down a village.
Hannah at level 4 nearly died several times trying to raid a village.
You need to kill about a hundred worshippers and a low-rank demon, so level 5 is definitely necessary.
So is it possible to fight mid-rank demons starting from level 5?
[Mid-rank demons]
I’ve personally seen three mid-rank demons so far. Cobra, Bull-head, and Gorilla, in that order.
Let’s look at their characteristics.
[Cobra demon: Body length of 18 meters. Height about 4 meters? Shoots flames (fire breath) from its mouth]
[Bull-head demon: Height about 5 meters? Has a flame whip tail and magic barrier]
[Gorilla demon: Height 7 meters. Well-equipped with four arms. Excellent combat skills]
The Bull-head demon seems to be the weakest. Whether because it was the smallest or because it was defeated by Charon without putting up much of a fight, it wasn’t very impressive.
Lakye could probably take it down. Definitely level 5.
The Cobra demon is stronger than the Bull-head demon in my opinion. Its fire breath was threatening, and the scales covering its body looked solid.
It fought fiercely with Abraham who was level 7. It must be at least level 6.
Finally, the Gorilla demon. This bastard was really strong.
It pushed back Lakye who was confident she could defeat the Cobra demon, and withstood attacks from Kanto and elite warriors without major injuries.
If not for the Totem of Confusion, we might have lost due to the orangutan demon joining the fight.
Even if we had won, we couldn’t have avoided the cloud demon.
Let’s say it’s level 7. It was definitely that strong.
It probably would have been a good match even against Abraham.
This is absolutely not me overestimating the only mid-rank demon I’ve killed.
[Mid-rank demon: Between levels 5-7]
Finally, there are high-rank demons, but this is difficult to quantify.
I’ve only seen the cloud demon, and I haven’t seen any being with comparable abilities.
I can only vaguely guess it might be level 9-10.
High-rank demons are still an unknown territory, so let’s move on.
[Tribal Federation]
If I’m roughly level 5 (it’s a secret that I can’t kill even one low-rank alone), and Lakye is about 6-7, Toughie is 3, Kanto is 3.5, and the rock golem is 2.5…
We must be at least level 7-8 as a group. Of course, that’s my hopeful estimate.
If we continue to build our forces and hunt demons to earn points and blessings, I think taking down the cloud demon isn’t an impossible goal.
Now that we’ve killed a mid-rank demon once, it should be easier next time.
By the way, there was a blessing that appeared right after we killed the gorilla demon.
Being mid-rank, it gave an enormous amount of points.
[Totem Guardian: The user’s abilities increase when near a totem. The efficiency of blessings received from totems is increased. You can bestow this blessing on one follower, and it can only be used once.]
This was the blessing, and I purchased it immediately.
Forget the healing totem. Strengthening allies is the priority.
Since most blessings can only be given through Totem #3, which is downgraded compared to Totem #1, ally enhancement blessings are more efficient in battle.
Unless I can drag Totem #1 around later.
Totem Guardian. Just from the description, it seems more useful and has easier conditions than Berserker’s Energy.
I decided long ago who to bestow this blessing upon.
There’s only one person who can use this blessing efficiently.
