Ch.4848. Cabin Expansion
by fnovelpia
First, building a larger cabin fundamentally requires wood.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s basic resources or higher-grade wood.
Using better materials makes the house sturdier, and you can choose wood according to your preference.
Since the original cabin was built with the abundant trees right in front of the house, I could just use the wood already piled up in the storage without having to look elsewhere.
The issue is making planks from the wood.
Construction doesn’t use raw wood but requires processed wooden planks.
These can be made at the [Item Workbench], and I had already made some in my spare time.
“I’ll expand the house first.”
First, I tore down the walls of the existing cabin.
Since the base area had doubled in size, I planned to expand the cabin accordingly.
Unless the base area grows even more and expanding the house further would be pointless, a bigger house is generally better.
Compared to the cramped space where two people could barely lie down with no room for furniture, doubling the area already made the space feel noticeably more comfortable.
The boxes remained outside with the workbench, and this time I added a second floor.
This was possible because the base area increased from 10P to 20P.
I attached stairs to the inner wall to create access to the second floor and made two rooms upstairs.
I didn’t add many elaborate decorations since I could always modify things later in construction mode.
The second floor would be our living space.
One room is mine.
The other room is Kim Soo-jung’s.
As for Lulu, she can sleep in my room or in Soo-jung’s bed as she pleases.
Originally, I would have liked to add a bathroom in the extra space on the second floor, but unfortunately, bathrooms can’t be made with basic resources.
I could create the space itself, but the essential bathroom components—sink, shower, toilet—
These have recipes with higher difficulty to obtain, and it would be easier to just buy them, but there are no village NPCs.
So I didn’t build one at all.
We can just use the first-floor bathroom, even if it’s inconvenient.
I also left half of the remaining space empty to create another room.
This would be the storage room.
Putting the PP boxes from the first floor here would keep things neat and tidy.
With these changes, the previously cramped first floor became much more spacious.
Now the first floor had only a bathroom, kitchen, and an empty living room.
I placed a four-person dining table in the kitchen with four wooden chairs.
The basic construction was quickly completed.
The essence of construction is simply expanding the house and dividing the space.
The rest is just detailed interior decoration.
“Wow? What’s this? The house got bigger.”
“Wooooow! Master!”
Kim Soo-jung and Lulu, who had briefly stepped outside, greeted me with enthusiastic cheers.
Just because the house got bigger.
“This is amazing! What? Is this my room? Incredible.”
Some people get excited and appreciate even the smallest things.
It gives me a strange feeling.
Is this what it feels like to be acknowledged?
Though I wasn’t entirely pleased that it was coming from my sister, Kim Soo-jung.
Even if I had a mansion like Suhyeon’s Farming World 1 that I’d meticulously built and decorated, it would be meaningless if I were the only one to see and enjoy it.
In the end, my ten years of effort would only be truly recognized when someone else sees it, appreciates it, and praises it.
Of course, back then I played purely for my own satisfaction without needing such recognition, and I didn’t regret it.
Someone liked my world and gave me this place as a gift.
And here, people are happy and excited about something that’s not even 1/100,000th of the effort I put in there.
Is this what accomplishment feels like?
The weight of being a head of household… that might be a bit of an exaggeration.
“A fireplace would be romantic here. We could set up a Christmas tree and create a Christmas atmosphere. Or we could put down a Japanese-style tatami mat and have tea.”
Our family wasn’t particularly poor.
Dad’s business wasn’t always successful, but we made enough to get by, so we always lived in an apartment and could afford to buy what we needed.
Having grown up in such a home, Kim Soo-jung now finds happiness in small things in this humble cabin.
She definitely shows potential.
“Oppa, can I try doing some interior decorating later?”
“Do as you please.”
I’m someone who’s obsessed with completed forms.
I already have the image of a fully developed mansion in my head, so I think of the intermediate stages as things that will eventually be demolished and rebuilt. Honestly, I just made rooms focused on efficiency and only added essential items like tables and chairs, without recipes for decorative items.
But for Kim Soo-jung, it’s different.
She has enthusiasm and passion that reminds me of my past self.
I’ll let her take charge.
This journey seems like it will be quite long anyway, and even I might prefer living in a home filled with someone’s passion rather than a bare, efficiency-focused space.
The view of the farm at night from the second-floor window had a different feel.
This must be what Lulu meant about the view from the rooftop.
The weed field stretching out beyond the window, and the unknown lands that might lie beyond.
Resources spread out in all directions, with our cabin at the center—at least the center of this world.
Opening the large window and placing a small round tea table with chairs made for a nice tea time.
“Try this, Oppa. It’s tea leaves I grew yesterday.”
“Sigh. The atmosphere is nice, but why am I stuck with Kim Soo-jung…”
“…Let’s not ruin the nice mood. I’m not thrilled about being alone with you either, boss.”
Veteran Farming World players lack sensitivity.
If you laid out numerous resources and asked them what they see, 99 out of 100 would just list the few valuable resources among what they consider trash.
That’s why when a newbie occasionally appears in the community, veteran Farming World players—those who’ve been playing so long they’re practically fossils—go crazy.
Just watching these newbies play reminds me of the innocence I had when I first played Farming World.
Seeds that my experienced eyes would see as useless, inefficient, and a waste of time to water and grow—seeds I would either convert to farm points or discard—
They happily grow these with care and use them for purposes I find meaningless. In a way, this pure approach was probably what even veteran players expected and hoped for when they first started the game.
I was the same.
I can see that in Kim Soo-jung now.
“This tea is supposed to help calm your mind and body. Let’s take some to sell.”
“Gather everything we can sell.”
Of course, rather than being overly sentimental, since Soo-jung and I share the same blood, there’s a certain calculating aspect mixed in.
I’m noticing points that suggest she might actually be good at handling farming tasks.
She might do well, I think.
And occasionally, her suggestions are quite helpful for developing the farm.
“Oh, and Oppa, can the house keep getting bigger?”
“Yeah.”
“Then next time we go back, how about buying solar panels? Couldn’t we generate enough electricity for one house with those? You said it would take a while to produce electricity here on our own.”
“You’re right.”
The biggest advantage of being able to travel between Earth and the Rift Dimension is that we can bring the abundant resources from here back to Earth, and bring resources from Earth to the Rift Dimension.
I’m knowledgeable about resources in Farming World, but my real-world knowledge is lacking, so I hadn’t thought of this.
Due to my limited scientific knowledge about ‘how’ to generate electricity, I was only thinking about gathering materials of the appropriate grade in Farming World and using the system to create it.
“That’s a good idea.”
Electricity is an essential resource, whether here or there.
Just having a refrigerator would greatly expand the range of food we could eat, allow us to enjoy cold drinks, and make it easier to watch movies or dramas on the tablet we brought.
“I’m going in first. Lulu! Let’s watch a drama together.”
“Wow! I’d love to!”
“Have you ever watched a drama before?”
“No.”
“You’ll definitely like seeing people eat ramen. Let’s go.”
Kim Soo-jung and Lulu have quickly become close enough to share a room.
It looks quite fun to see them enjoying the rewards of their hard work at night, charging devices with the portable batteries we brought.
“Our Oppa has a nasty personality, right, Lulu?”
“Ah… yes… but I think that’s why Master is strong.”
“No, no. It has nothing to do with that. He just has a nasty personality.”
“Hehe… it’s okay. I still think he’s warm-hearted inside.”
“Hmm… you’re right. He is sometimes.”
“…”
Finishing my tea, I said one thing to the door on my way to my room.
“I can hear everything, you brats.”
“Kyaaaah!”
“Gasp! Pretend to be asleep! Pretend to be asleep!”
Well… it seems our impromptu move turned out to be somewhat harmonious.
