Chapter 46. Symphonia Raid (4)
Though Zombie #1’s left arm was severed by the sword, it still managed to sink its teeth into the neck of the one who had swung at it.
I’d done this a few times against cultists, and biting the neck works best in one-on-one combat.
It’s the most lethal approach because despite being a vital point, it’s not a part people typically armor well.
I tore out a chunk of flesh with my teeth. Green fluid oozed out.
I’m truly grateful I can’t feel the taste or texture.
“Ugh!”
The cultist tried to cover the torn area with his hand, but it was already too late.
Left like that, he’ll die from excessive bleeding. Then Zombie #3 will be born.
“Die!”
“Infidel!”
“Enemy of the Lord!”
The problem was that the remaining cultists were stabbing Zombie #1’s body with all sorts of weapons, but this was actually part of my plan.
I ordered Zombie #1 to “struggle with all your might” and took control of Zombie #2.
The aggro was definitely drawn. While they were mercilessly putting holes in Zombie #1’s body, this was my chance.
Let’s go, Zombie #2!
“Kuheck!”
I stealthily approached a cultist and tore out his throat. Another big bite.
It was a small-framed woman, and since her strength was weaker than Zombie #2’s, I could easily take her weapon.
The weapon was an axe. Unlike a sword that requires skill to wield effectively, this sweet item just needs to be swung downward.
“It hurts…”
Yes, I’m sure it does. May your next life be in a world without demons, ma’am.
I brought the stolen axe down on the female cultist’s head. Result: instant death.
“Grrrr…!”
Zombie #4 is born.
#3… has just stopped breathing. Immediately turned into a zombie.
The order might seem strange, but it’s not.
“What is this.”
“Black magic…!”
The cultists are terrified, probably seeing zombies for the first time.
If their demon lord were nearby, they’d fight like berserkers without fearing death.
I’m really glad they’re scattered.
So now I have… three zombies that can move.
#1 hasn’t had its head cut off yet, but thanks to the cultists, it’s become a pincushion and can’t move.
I pressed the advantage and sent #2, #3, and #4 charging. The command: “Bite their necks by any means necessary!”
“H-haaack!”
And so three zombies and seventeen cultists engaged in fierce combat.
As time passed, the number of corpses increased, and as corpses increased, so did the zombies—a battle that only favored me.
Now only seven cultists remain.
“Cut off their heads! They can’t move then!”
One cultist shouted.
So they’ve finally figured out how to defeat zombies. But it’s too late.
Zombie #11, acting as a shield, rushed in, with #7 and #9 following behind.
While #11 holds down a cultist, #7 and #9 can stab them.
“Argh!”
Another one down.
I’ve gained a lot of experience moving with the Golden Sun tribe.
Now, taking down twenty cultists is just a matter of time.
“Master…”
The remaining cultists fell pathetically, and the 20:1 battle ended in my victory.
Ah, what a magnificent battle.
Taking down twenty people alone. Haven’t I become quite strong?
…Suddenly I recall Lakye instantly killing the snail demon and toying with the beaver demon.
And scenes of Kanto dismembering dozens of infected creatures alone, and Abraham blasting dozens of lesser demons with his whip.
– …
Damn it.
No, they’re the weird ones.
They’re bloodthirsty warriors who’ve been professionally trained to fight since childhood.
Abraham must be a veteran soldier or special forces like George.
This is plenty strong. Mm. Definitely.
After finishing my mental victory, I led the five zombies that were still somewhat intact to attack another reconnaissance team.
“There are sixteen cultists to the west.”
With Paya giving orders from a safe hiding spot, things went much more smoothly.
They have no radios or horns. They can’t share what the cultists who died fighting me discovered.
“The head!”
They only realized zombies die when their heads are cut off when the tide had already turned against them.
This is why information and communication are so important.
However, attacking reconnaissance teams one by one was no longer possible.
“Over there!”
The cultists aren’t fools. As their comrades kept getting ambushed, they caught on and started moving in groups.
Well, it’s still a matter of time.
They probably don’t have any information beyond “our comrades were attacked!” If I drag this into a long battle, I’ll definitely have the advantage.
Thinking this, I tried to control the zombie at the front of the five when…
With a THWACK! sound, a thick, long wooden spear pierced its body.
Damn it. The spear was too fast for me to notice in time.
This spear belongs to… as I thought.
Wooooooo!
The orangutan demon riding a monstrous donkey revealed itself. The rabbit and badger demons were with it.
I tried to pull out the wooden spear stuck in the center of my body, but the spearhead was embedded in the ground, making it impossible to remove.
What incredible strength and accuracy. And this thing is supposed to be a lesser demon?
Even Kanto in berserker mode probably couldn’t block this attack.
It’s classified as a lesser demon like the ones I’ve killed so far, but its strength is on another level.
…The chimpanzee knight seemed stronger than this one. I shouldn’t be complacent thinking there are only two demons in the city.
For now, let me draw as much aggro as possible.
The longer I can keep these three demons occupied here, the higher the chances for the tribal alliance’s main force.
“…Should Sturdy and I step in?”
Paya speaks to me through Totem #3.
– No need. Protect my totem from a safe place.
This is dangerous. With three lesser demons, I can’t protect Paya.
“Enemy! Kill them!”
“The Lord is with us!”
The emboldened cultists attack the zombies.
Cultists who fight without fear of death are twice as troublesome.
I ordered the remaining zombies to retreat.
I didn’t actually tell them to run away, but to pretend to flee while making the enemies chase us.
“After them!”
The orangutan, who I thought would immediately kill all the zombies, watched quietly from behind.
The other three lesser demons stayed by his side. He probably thinks there’s no need for him to act.
What a careless response. In the end, it’s just a primate.
You big-headed orangutan bastard, I’ll make you regret this.
I picked off the scattered cultists one by one using various methods.
Playing dead then biting, grabbing and wrestling them to death, using weapons stuck in zombie bodies to stab back.
I kept switching control between different zombies. Dozens of times per minute.
This made things difficult for the cultists. They weren’t losing, but the increasing casualties and zombies were causing confusion.
Obviously, disregarding death and being nearly unkillable are completely different things.
No matter how bravely they charged, cultists were living beings who died when their vital points were hit, while zombies didn’t die unless their heads were cut off.
Well, orangutan. How about it? This is going to drag on.
When all five zombies I was controlling had been replaced with different ones, the orangutan finally stepped in.
With a sound of wind being cut, a wooden spear flew toward one zombie.
I immediately released control of that zombie and switched to another body.
If you can’t dodge, abandon it. That’s the conclusion I’ve reached.
While that stupid primate was watching with his hands behind his back, I secured enough corpses. No need to be attached to a single zombie.
Using the orangutan’s throw as a signal, the badger and rabbit demons rushed in.
The rabbit’s speed is incredibly fast. It instantly approached and bit a zombie’s torso in half.
Ha. I expected this, but they’re really no match.
From then on, it was hopeless. The demons’ specs were overwhelmingly superior, so the zombies were torn apart without inflicting any damage.
As expected of zombie control, a skill recognized as garbage even in games.
What’s the point of being able to harass cultists if I can’t even kill one lesser demon?
Pwoooooo!
Just when I was thinking this was getting bad.
I heard the horn sound I’d heard in the city before. The tone was slightly different from when calling for a demon’s vision.
This must be… an order to regroup at the city?
I checked my score. It had increased significantly since I last checked.
Our main force must have cleared all five villages on the way to the city and entered it to engage in battle.
The orangutan urgently turned his mount around. The other two demons also showed signs of moving.
I can’t let them go that easily.
– Attack the rat-like demon.
It might be impossible to hold back all four demons, but I could definitely hold one back.
I targeted the rabbit demon. Not just because it was small, but because it was the fastest.
It would likely be the first to regroup.
“Yes!”
Thunk-!
The invisible pigeon Sturdy flew in at high speed and rammed into the rabbit demon.
It was like a traffic accident. The rabbit went flying with a squeak!
Fast speed, but not so great reaction time.
The demons heading toward the city paused briefly to consider, then ignored us and left.
They probably judged that the city with a mid-rank demon was more important than one lesser demon.
– I’ll help. Kill it.
Since it’s come to this, I should definitely kill the rabbit before leaving.
