Chapter Index

    Anyway, things concluded in that frustratingly ambiguous manner.

    In reality, though, this decision didn’t immediately change my life or that of our fleet or the Superhumans.

    They may have nominated me as the central leader, but nobody was willing to give up their own interests to serve under me.

    And likewise, I had absolutely no intention of giving myself a headache trying to manage other rankers.

    Especially massive clans like Antares, Betelgeuse, or Arcadia.

    I welcomed their “live and let live” approach, and decided to check on the status of the newly acquired bases.

    Of course, these new bases, probably due to their level, were…

    —————————————-

    <Arclight Surveillance Base>

    <Lv. 2>

    <Type: Space Fortress>

    <Defense Force Status>

    ˪<Patrol Fleet x5>

    ˪<Fortress Combat Fleet x8>

    <Fleet Composition>

    <Patrol Fleet Composition>

    ˪<Heavy Cruiser 1, Light Cruiser 10, Destroyer 50, Patrol Ship 100>

    <Fortress Combat Fleet Composition>

    ˪<Battleship 1, Heavy Cruiser 5, Destroyer 100, Escort Ship 200>

    <Fortress Comprehensive Defense System Status: Normal>

    —————————————-

    Among the three, only “Arclight” was level 2, and even it had just this much combat power.

    The level 1 bases didn’t even have “heavy cruisers” in their defense fleets.

    “Commander, regarding the three new bases including the Arclight Surveillance Base.”

    “Hmm?”

    “They’re too difficult to defend! The maximum capacity for stationed fleets and carrier-based aircraft is too small!”

    “Tiamat is right. Though the Spiralis Research Institute is fine since other commanders are docking their bases there.”

    “I suppose that is a problem.”

    The concerns from Berial and Tiamat, who oversee my fleet and carrier-based aircraft, were understandable.

    But level 3 bases and below were essentially similar to what users called “forward bases” compared to other bases.

    I decided to consider these bases as reserves and not worry too much about their weak defenses.

    And not long after, about a month and a week after Humanity’s “revolution”…

    <General Announcement>

    <<<New Event Notice>>>

    <This is a new event notice for Commanders!>

    <In one week, the ‘All-Big-Ship’ event will be held!>

    <Detailed explanation will be uploaded tomorrow!>

    <Caution!>

    <This event strictly allows participation of only ‘large ships’ of heavy cruiser class or above, while ‘small ships’ of light cruiser class or below cannot participate!>

    <The standard for ‘small ships’ is the ‘size’ of the vessel, so please understand that even high-point ships with small sizes are included.>

    —————————————-

    ‘An event here, of all places?’

    With a title designed to excite battleship enthusiasts right from the start.

    Thoughts about low-level bases were naturally pushed to the back of my mind.

    ==========

    The next morning.

    After arriving at the command center, while I was munching and slurping on fish and chips and morning coffee brought by Jessica…

    I heard the notification sound for a general mail message and immediately opened my mailbox to check what event had arrived.

    And the moment I saw the event message…

    —————————————-

    <General Announcement>

    <<<‘All-Big-Ship’ Event Notice>>>

    <Event Duration: 3 weeks total>

    <Event map format is strictly random.>

    <Map size is extra large.>

    <The event battle methods are as follows:>

    <Once you complete one method, you will choose another from the remaining methods.>

    <Once a ‘method’ has been completed, it cannot be played again.>

    <Individual Battle Method: Commanders’ fleets will fight in 1 vs 1 battles.>

    ˪<If matchmaking takes too long, you will fight against a buffed random NPC fleet.>

    ˪<Additionally, this NPC fleet will randomly copy one of the fleets of commanders participating in the event.>

    <Battle Royale Method: A method where an unspecified number of commanders participate.>

    ˪<Fight for a certain period of time, and rankings are determined by the number of surviving ships.>

    <Team Battle Method: Commanders randomly assigned will form teams to fight against opposing teams.>

    ˪<Team kills are possible during battle, but ships sunk by team kills will be restored after the battle.>

    ˪<Also, if deemed an intentional team kill, the commander may be forced to pay resources and points to the damaged commander, so please be careful.>

    <Those who have played all three modes above will proceed to the final Raid battle.>

    <Raid Method: A method where commanders join forces to defeat a powerful boss ship and escort fleet.>

    ˪<The boss ship and escort fleet are random, and the boss escort fleet may include small ships.>

    <Caution!>

    <In this event, only large ships of ‘heavy cruiser’ class or above can be included in your fleet!>

    <Also, ‘small ships’ cannot be included in commanders’ fleets!>

    <The standard for ‘small ships’ is strictly based on ‘size’, so some special ships with high points but small size cannot be used!>

    <If ships and Superhumans are sunk or killed in this event, they will respawn in a heavily damaged state or severely injured state respectively.>

    <However, Superhumans who are considered dead in battle cannot be deployed in other battles, so commanders should be careful.>

    <The event will begin one week from today.>

    —————————————-

    After reading through the event details, I realized why this event was happening and clapped my hands exclaiming:

    “Oh wow, I see, they’re trying to drastically reduce the number of large ships!”

    “What do you mean, Commander?”

    Naturally, Jessica, who was sipping her decaffeinated coffee beside me, perked up her rabbit ears in surprise at my sudden outburst.

    Instead of answering Jessica…

    I immediately opened the gallery to show her the reactions of veteran users who likely felt the same way I did.

    And sure enough, the users’ reactions weren’t much different from mine:

    Title: This event is LITERALLY a large ship killer event

    Author: DreadnoughtLover

    Content: [Event message full capture.png]

    At first, the admins kept doing “use more small ships” events to promote small ships, but in reality, users are battleship enthusiasts, so there are too many large ships

    Small ships are treated as disposable unless they’re gacha ships, so they all get scrapped

    Conversely, large ships survive and level up, making the situation quite bad

    So what do they do? Create a battle where only heavy cruisers and larger ships can participate, making them fight each other in long-range combat

    They’ve created an event to cull large ships

    Comments:

    -[Oh, that makes sense]

    -[Users definitely don’t use small ships much these days except for clan wars or base sieges]

    -[Wow, this guy is still alive]

    -˪[Who is he?]

    -˪[The first person to reach rank 1 when possessed here]

    -˪[So a loser from the past]

    -˪[Why are you talking nonsense?](Author)

    Title: This event seems fun, but honestly I’m worried about participating

    Author: MosquitoLivesDieDie

    Content: [Event summary.jpg]

    On the surface it looks like a big fucking gun show for battleship enthusiasts

    But in reality, this event could determine whether you get screwed in future clan wars, large-scale battles, or PVP

    If you participate and your large ships get massacred, it might actually be better not to participate at all

    Comments:

    -[That’s definitely true]

    -[Honestly, even if it’s not a dreadnought-class, it takes at least a week to build one battleship from scratch]

    -[Even if you dock at a base, you might end up spending a whole month just building ships if things go wrong]

    -˪[It’s definitely risky]

    —————————————–

    Not just the veteran who had ranked 1st three rankings ago.

    Other veterans were also saying this event was “interesting but dangerous.”

    Seeing these reactions, users in the gallery and chat were responding with “Maybe it’s better not to participate in the event?”

    And the veterans’ concerns didn’t end there…
