Ch. 44 MtF – Chapter 44

    Chapter 44

    R̈èãd́ ̂òn̈ ̈ḰâẗR̀èàd̃ìn̈ĝC̀äf̂ë

    D-DAY (1)

One day passed, then another—and before I knew it, the day before my debut had arrived.
It’s not like I had a lot of time left to begin with, but now that it was right in front of me… I felt something new.
    Not fear or nervousness, really.

For me, being a VTuber had long since become something I saw as a place to return to.

    “Yeoreum, are you nervous?”
    “Yeah, I am.”
“Heh, I didn’t think you would get nervous. You were totally fine when you showed up on my streams.”

    Nervousness, huh…
If anything, this wasn’t fear—it was excitement.

The trembling in my body wasn’t from anxiety. It was from anticipation—
The joy of meeting listeners again.

I wonder… how have you all been doing?

If I ever got the chance, that was what I wanted to ask.

What was the world like without “Han Yeoreum” in it?
A question buried deep in my heart that I had always wanted to bring into the light.

“…I guess it is a little selfish of me.”

Born with nothing, raised with nothing, and lived a life where I couldn’t fulfill any of my desires.
    A life without meaning.
Could someone like that have ever meant something, even something small, to someone else?

Was Han Yeoreum, the VTuber, someone who remained in anyone’s memories?

If anyone found out I was thinking something so presumptuous, I wonder what they’d say.

“…Maybe that’s why I said it was okay, even if people found out.”

    “Huh? What was that?”
“Oh—nothing. I’m just really looking forward to debuting.”

We’d already talked through everything about how my debut stream would go.
    So… I can do this.

Even if my body had changed completely since my VTuber days, I hadn’t changed.
    I was still Han Yeoreum.

    [V-Spe just dropped an announcement!]
    [(Unknown silhouette.JPG)]
But like, who even is this??

ㄴ [Wait, are they really debuting a new member?]
ㄴ [Who the heck debuts a new member without any teaser info, lol]
ㄴ [The post says it’s someone “you all already know,” but WHO??]
    ㄴ [ㄴIt’s obviously Totomo-chan.]
    ㄴ [ㄴFor real?]
ㄴ [ㄴMakes sense—Toya already said she was debuting on stream.]
ㄴ [ㄴSo it’s just a push from the inside, huh.]
    ㄴ [ㄴPush? Come on, lol]
ㄴ [Still, they’re really revealing a new member, not just new outfits. Wild.]
ㄴ [V-Spe is God! V-Spe is God! V-Spe is God!]

[Totomo-chan debuting makes me feel weirdly emotional.]
[It started as a joke, but she actually went and debuted lol]

ㄴ [If it started as a joke, maybe half of us really meant it, huh?]
ㄴ [Honestly, if she didn’t debut, it would’ve been a huge loss for VTubing.]
ㄴ [So what’s her name? They haven’t revealed anything yet lol]
    ㄴ [Maybe she’s just debuting as “Totomo-chan”?]
    ㄴ [ㄴNo way, lol]
    ㄴ [ㄴWhat’s her concept? Just “Toya’s friend”?]
    ㄴ [ㄴ(That’s the actual concept)]
ㄴ [ㄴEverything so far kind of was build-up to that, huh. Debuting as Toya’s friend.]
ㄴ [ㄴBut the chemistry between them was way too real to just be a concept lol]

[If Totomo-chan doesn’t debut after all this, what are we supposed to do?]
[We even made a fan name and everything. If it’s not Totomo-chan, I’m rioting lol]

ㄴ [No way they’d troll us like that lol]
    ㄴ [If it’s not Totomo-chan, I’m cutting my hair on stream 100%]
ㄴ [ㄴAren’t you the guy who already promised that if a new member debuted, you’d do it?]
ㄴ [ㄴTime to post proof you did it, bro lol]
ㄴ [(Toya should I cut it? Emote)]
    ㄴ [Totomo-chan isn’t a new member. She’s a long-time member we’ve always had with us.]
    ㄴ [ㄴLOL]
ㄴ [ㄴIf showing up on Toya’s stream makes you an old member, then I’m debuting too lol]
ㄴ [If it’s not Totomo-chan, then who else do we “already know”??]
ㄴ [Everything points to Totomo-chan. No doubt.]

    “Kon-tomo~ V-Spe Gen 1, Yatogami Toya here~”
    “Hai-nari~ V-Spe Gen 1, Fushimi Inari~!”
    “Otsu-nagi~ V-Spe Gen 1, Minami Nagisa here.”

    —Kon-tomo!!
    —Hai-nari~
    —Otsu-nagi~
    —It’s happening it’s happening wwwwww
    —Today’s the day lol
    —(Toya lightstick emoji)
    —(Inari lightstick emoji)
    —(Nagisa lightstick emoji)

The three of them finished their greetings with a cheerful “Yay~” and sat down.

    Where were they right now?
None other than V-Spe’s official streaming studio.

After all, it’d be a bit much to host something like this at Toya’s house.
Not only was this my debut stream—it was also the new outfit reveal stream for all three of them.

“The reason we’re all gathered here today is—ta-da~”
    “New outfit reveal!”
“And to reveal our new unit, too.”

Following a well-made intro screen, the new outfits were introduced.
Looking at the silhouettes on screen, I took a deep breath.

New outfits, new unit, and a new member.
Three reveals—and this was the first.

“Then I’ll go first! Here we go—ta-dah~”

    —Looks great.
—She totally gives off indie guitarist vibes lol
—This outfit’s gotta mean she’s gonna sing more, right? Please?
—It’s like she’s in a band playing guitar in a back alley somewhere lol
    —Sing, sing, sing!!
    —Toya’s cute~

Toya wore a t-shirt that read Rock’n’Roll under a hooded zip-up, paired with ripped jeans.
A headset hung around her neck, giving her the vibe of either a gamer or a member of an indie band.

It fit her perfectly—way more than her original frilly “cute” outfit ever did.
This one leaned into her cool side instead of cuteness.

“If you look here, see? I can even hold a guitar like this!”

A virtual guitar appeared in her empty hands, and she struck a pose.
Wow. She wasn’t actually holding anything, but the way she positioned her fingers looked totally real.
I instinctively clapped—even if the mic wasn’t on and the audience couldn’t hear me.

“Toya’s definitely more cool than cute, right?”

    —wwwwww
—Now we see how off-brand the old concept was lol
—All it took was a new outfit and suddenly it fits like a glove lol
—Turns out the floaty frilly stuff was the real issue…
—The new one looks like casual wear. The original was more of a concept costume.
—Play the guitar! Play the guitar!
—C’mon, now that you’re holding it!

    “Guitar? Uh… Ding~♪ Ding-gi-ding~♬ Ding-ding~♪”

    …With her mouth, huh.
Well, she didn’t have a real guitar, so I guess that was the best she could do.
At least the chat was having fun.

After Toya came none other than Inari.

“Heh, my outfit is way better than Toya’s. Look—awesome, right? Cute, right?
This is what it means to be a fox who can actually pull off cuteness!”

Inari’s new outfit was a sailor uniform.
Her original shrine maiden look had been replaced, giving her a lighter, more playful feel.

It actually suited her really well. Her twitching fox ears helped too.
If those were real, I’d be tempted to touch them—they looked that soft and bouncy.

“And ta-da~ Look! When I do this, a star appears in my eyes. Super cute, right?”

    —Okay, yeah, that’s cute.
    —Still embarrassing though lol
    —A centuries-old fox spirit in a sailor uniform… grass
—But she is cute, so whatever.
—The way her ears move is insane lol
—I wanna touch Inari’s ears wwww

Her previously bare ears now sported heart-shaped earrings, and her wrists were adorned with blue scrunchies.
Her whole look screamed “high school gyaru,” and the audience immediately started teasing her.

Not so much about her appearance—it suited her—but more in a roleplay, in-universe kind of way.

“And now, it’s my turn, isn’t it? I’m not used to wearing clothes like this,
but I prepared this look for everyone who’s been looking forward to it.”

—Nagisa even looks good in normal clothes.
—The lack of accessories actually makes her stand out more ww
—They kept calling her a rich girl, so she came dressed as one lol
    —But seriously, she’s gorgeous
—Ojousama, wanna go get a drink later? lol
    —wwww
    —grass

    Nagisa wore a simple, everyday outfit—not a Western-style dress,
but the kind of refined fashion you might see in a Japanese drama.

I knew her nickname was “ojou-sama,” but dressed like this, she really looked the part.
Though honestly, she felt even more like an ojou-sama in real life.

With the three outfit reveals complete, that could only mean one thing—
My debut… was just around the corner.

    Fables
