Ch.41Chapter 41 – Unbelievable Even With My Own Eyes
by fnovelpia
Behind the Glesius Academy Cafeteria.
This is a place rarely visited by anyone except merchants delivering ingredients to the student cafeteria or kitchen staff working there.
However, unlike usual, quite a large number of people had gathered here now.
Among them were department heads such as Shannon, the secretary to the Glesius Academy Chancellor, Maron, the Academy’s Administrative Director, and Jeras, the Academy Security Chief.
But there was one person among those gathered who was most peculiar…
“So, Mr. Pathos. According to what you’ve said, you swung a hammer three times at Miss Reina’s head here. Is that true?”
It was Pathos, a young man who had entered Glesius Academy through special admission.
To understand how this situation came about, we need to go back one hour.
To the moment when Reina witnessed Pathos fixing the wall.
◈◇◈◇◈◇◈◇◈◇◈
Just as I was about to fix the collapsed kitchen wall after repairing the damaged cooking equipment and the food preservation system in the storage room, Reina appeared.
“I’m not… seeing things wrong, am I?”
Reina must have seen the kitchen wall being repaired with her own eyes, but she was giving me a look of utter disbelief.
Right. People who see my ability all show that kind of reaction at first.
Hard to believe even when you see it with your own eyes, isn’t it?
“You’re not seeing things wrong.”
“No. I must be seeing things. You tapped the collapsed wall three times with a hammer, then suddenly there was light, something floated up in the air, and then poof! The wall was perfectly fixed? Does that make any sense? Does that make any sense at all?”
Reina must have been genuinely shocked because she came up to me, grabbed my shoulders with both hands, and started shaking me back and forth.
I was already hungry, and now having a strong woman shake me back and forth was making me nauseous.
“Um, could you please let go of me? I’m feeling sick!”
“No, you need to make sense! How does tapping a wall with a hammer fix a collapsed wall? I don’t understand, I just don’t understand!”
Reina, who had been speaking formally to me until just a moment ago, was now grabbing me and speaking casually as if we were friends.
She continued to shake me vigorously, and I felt like I was about to collapse from the nausea.
It seems like Reina is really on the verge of losing her mind.
“Reina.”
“I must be seeing things wrong, right? Can you tell me that’s the case?”
“Miss Reina?”
“Yes, I must be seeing things wrong.”
“This isn’t working.”
I called Reina’s name hoping she would calm down, but she showed no signs of doing so.
In that case, there was only one thing I could do.
‘Just like how the side effects in the Chancellor’s body were fixed, if I hit Reina’s head three times with the hammer, her abnormal state of mind should return to normal.’
That was to use my ability on Reina.
I momentarily exerted strength to remove Reina’s hands from my shoulders.
But she seemed not to have expected me to use force suddenly, so she stumbled backward and fell.
I climbed on top of her to not miss this opportunity.
“Y-you pervert! What are you trying to do to me?”
“Miss Reina, I hope you won’t resent me.”
“Huh?”
Realizing she was on the floor, Reina momentarily showed an expression of confusion.
I gripped the hammer I had used to fix the wall and slowly raised it.
“This is all your fault, Miss Reina, for not listening to me.”
“W-wait a minute? What do you mean?”
I’m not sure if my ability will work on someone who isn’t in their right mind, but…
“This is all for your own good, Miss Reina. I hope you’ll accept it willingly.”
Believing she would return to normal, I swung the hammer down on her head three times.
Ah, of course, I didn’t hit her hard enough to kill her.
Just like when I tapped the Chancellor’s head, I very lightly tapped Reina’s head three times with the hammer.
And the effects of my ability activating appeared on Reina.
“Oh wow. It’s really working.”
After I tapped Reina’s head about three times, her entire body began to glow brightly.
Then wind started blowing from somewhere, enveloping her.
The wind coming from all directions formed a pillar and lifted her into the air.
“What’s this? What’s happening?”
The first to arrive at the scene of the tremendous storm behind the kitchen was, of course, Shannon, who assists our Chancellor.
“Has the culprit appeared again?”
Next, a somewhat thin man in his 30s appeared behind the kitchen.
“You! Finally showed yourself!”
Lastly, a burly man wearing full body armor without any gaps appeared.
This situation seems to be getting bigger than expected.
◈◇◈◇◈◇◈◇◈◇◈
“This person swung a hammer at my head three times.”
After the pillar of wind disappeared and Reina regained consciousness, she opened her eyes and pointed at me, explaining what I had done to her.
“W-what did you say?”
“Mr. Pathos. Is that true?”
In response to Reina’s words, the thin man, Administrative Director Maron, was shocked, and Shannon looked at me and asked if it was true.
“So, Mr. Pathos. According to what you’ve said, you swung a hammer three times at Miss Reina’s head here. Is that true?”
The armored man was Jeras, the chief of the security force protecting Glesius Academy.
He looked at me as if interrogating me, but in fact, I could be considered the victim here.
“The truth is…”
I explained to Shannon and the others who had arrived at the scene what had happened.
I reported that the cafeteria kitchen and food storage warehouse were damaged, making it difficult to provide meals, so I used my ability to fix them. But when Reina saw this, she grabbed me and shook me back and forth, making me so nauseous that I almost collapsed.
So I had no choice but to use my ability to restore her to normal. I explained that swinging the hammer three times was the only way to activate my ability.
“Haah, really. I thought things were going well on the first day of classes.”
After hearing my explanation, Shannon shook her head.
“I’ll resolve this issue…”
“Moreover, before hitting me with the hammer, he forcibly knocked me down to the floor using his strength!”
“Eh.”
Wait a minute.
“That’s because you were shaking me, and when I shook off your arms, you fell down on your own!”
“But you still made me fall, didn’t you?”
“I didn’t make you fall, you fell on your own!”
I tried to correct Reina as she attempted to distort the facts.
“Both of you, be quiet!”
In the end, it was Shannon who calmed the situation, unable to contain her anger any longer.
“…So that’s why you called me?”
“Yes, Chancellor.”
Shannon had called the Chancellor, realizing they couldn’t resolve this issue on their own.
The Chancellor took Reina away briefly, and after about 10 minutes, returned to the scene with her.
Wow, did he use teleportation? The Chancellor must really be an amazing magician.
“Mr. Pathos. Miss Reina’s misunderstandings about you have been completely cleared up.”
“Um, I… I’m sorry. I was too excited and seem to have caused trouble for Mr. Pathos.”
I don’t know what was said, but Reina’s behavior was much more docile than before.
Chancellor, what exactly did you do to make Miss Reina, who was ready to eat me alive, become so obedient?
“Then, what about what Miss Reina said?”
“Miss Reina provoked Mr. Pathos first, and in the process, Mr. Pathos took justifiable defensive action to protect himself. This is stated in the academy regulations, isn’t it?”
“Y-yes, Chancellor.”
Administrative Director Maron nodded at the Chancellor’s words.
Unlike his demeanor in the Chancellor’s office, the Chancellor here was displaying overwhelming charisma.
“And as for Mr. Pathos’s ability, it’s something unbelievable to those seeing it for the first time. But look over there, everyone. The damaged kitchen and food storage warehouse have been completely restored. I vouch for his ability. So don’t doubt his ability any further.”
“But, Chancellor. Isn’t it possible that he caused the incident in the first place?”
“This student was recommended not by me but by Minister Bergen Stayler. Are you suggesting this is Bergen’s fault?”
Security Chief Jeras tried to say something, but the moment the Minister’s name came from the Chancellor’s lips, he became as silent as a mute.
“Minister Bergen Stayler was the first to verify Mr. Pathos’s ability. So, saying you don’t believe in his ability is like challenging the judgment of the Minister who has discovered numerous ability users until now. Can you handle that?”
“N-no! I spoke out of turn!”
Security Chief Jeras tucked his tail like a puppy before a tiger at the Chancellor’s words.
Hmm, having connections really does make a difference.
“Well then, let’s wrap this up. What’s important now is catching whoever did this to the student cafeteria, not a minor squabble between students.”
Thanks to the Chancellor’s mediation, the incident between Miss Reina and me was more or less resolved.
When everyone had left and only Reina and I remained, she approached me.
“I-I’m sorry, Mr. Pathos. I caused you a lot of trouble by reacting emotionally, didn’t I? I sincerely apologize for that.”
She bowed her head and began to apologize to me.
To think that a noble young lady like her would apologize to me.
I wonder what conversation Reina had with the Chancellor?
