    Ch.405Fighting the Mountain NPC. (11)

    -KWAAAAAAANG!!!

    “Kheuk!!!”

    “Keuuugh!!!”

The massive pit that the professors had dug out over three days was deep enough to reach the actual hell. If it had been an ordinary human, they wouldn’t have even left a corpse behind—just ketchup.

“You insolent…! *cough* How dare you grab the Pope’s face and throw him…!!”

“What nonsense. Elder, how can such a great Pope join hands with Pride, the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins? Did you get shot in the head?”

And that impact was enough to damage me too. Fortunately, I had an old cushion to use, so I was able to reduce the shock by slamming him into the ground just before I hit it myself. But honestly, shouldn’t you be dead from that impact? Did you survive because you’re level 1,300? Or did Pride do something? More importantly…

“Ptui, ptui! Where did you sell Sloth, and why did Pride join hands with you? I don’t understand. And that hood that prevents me from seeing your status window—where did you get equipment that didn’t even exist in the game?”

“…I see. So it was you. You’re the one they spoke of, the being who destroys the cycle.”

The inside of the pit is very large and wide. Seeing Behemoth’s feet above my head, Ragni must have instructed them to dig the ground deep enough that its feet wouldn’t touch the bottom. Impressive, measuring the creature’s size without even seeing it directly. Whoever that woman is, she’s too brilliant.

“If I cannot kill you, the restoration of holiness cannot be achieved. Surely, the devout believers I sent to the Empire must have been annihilated by your vile tricks.”

“The ones who viciously attacked powerless people were your religious group. Idiots who made contracts with man-eating demons calling themselves ‘devout’? Perhaps you meant to say ‘unconscious’? They were all trash with rotten heads.”

“Tsk, there’s no point in talking further. Die, disappear for the sake of this world’s holiness and cycle.”

    -PEEENG!! KWAAANG!!!

A beam flies from nowhere and causes an explosion, though he didn’t even move his hand. Well, since it was aimed at my head, I could easily avoid it by just tilting my neck, but if he had launched attacks like that from the beginning, our people would have been seriously injured.

In a way, it was good for us that the surprise attack came while we were on Behemoth’s neck. If we could have used that attack, Behemoth’s head would have been neatly severed and fallen to the ground by now.

    “…Try dodging this one.”

“What are you, Lord Frieza? Standing still and trying to kill me with just lasers is pretty annoying.”

I’m not some Namekian who needs to take a beating from a boss with a power level of 530,000.

Multiple holy spells launch lasers at the back of the old man’s head, and as beams continuously fly in, I charge toward him at full speed. Maybe it was strange that I chose the front instead of the back, but the old man seemed surprised and jumped backward, trying to fly up into the sky again like before.

But did he think I’d just stand by and watch?

    -TAT, PAT!!

    “Flying is cheating.”

    -KWACHAANG!!!

    “Ugh?!!”

    “Oh?”

I swung my fist with enough force to shatter his skull, but only a barrier deployed in front of me was destroyed, and my attack didn’t reach him. Well, still…

    -PAKAANG!!

    “Kuk!!”

Since neither he flew away nor I was pushed back, I spun around and slammed him into the ground with a heel strike, breaking through his holy barrier. As expected, the barrier breaks but recovers immediately. Is there not much difference from the pattern in the game when he contracted with Sloth?

“If you can’t attack one-sidedly from the sky like before, can’t you handle one unbeliever like me, Elder? Seems like your devotion is a bit lacking?”

    “Divine punishment!!”

Angered by my repeated provocations, the old man suddenly starts hurling giant swords and hammers. I step back slightly and swing my fists to deal with them one by one. Avaritia said these could be grown to the size of a large mansion, but even though this space is wide, it’s too narrow for attacks of that scale. Plus, with Behemoth’s feet above our heads, he can’t freely launch such attacks. This is…

    -KKAANG!! PAT!!

    “Too advantageous for me.”

    -KWACHAANG!!

    “You bastard!!!”

I deflect the incoming swords and hammers appropriately, advance again to destroy his barrier, and repeat the process of deflecting more flying swords. Normally, party NPCs or party members would need to chip in damage before the barrier regenerates, but I’m the only one who can withstand attacks from a level 1,300 Pope. If anyone else accidentally took even one hit, it would be instant death. I dodged that laser beam earlier, but if it had been someone else, their brains would be oozing out of their head.

    -KWACHANG!! KWACHANG!! KKAANG!! KKAANG!! KWACHANG!!

“Elder, you don’t look so good. Is the barrier restoration not keeping up?”

    “Kuuugh!!!”

Of course, it’s not impossible to clear without party members. He’s the boss of ep.7, and once you reach level 1100 and match his equipment, you can solo clear him ‘without party NPCs.’ It takes a bit more time, but…!!

    -KWACHAANG!!!

“That’s the 50th barrier. About 5 seconds left until the next barrier recovery?”

    “Y-you…?!! Kuheoook?!!”

The maximum number of barriers is 50. When one is destroyed, it takes 10 seconds until the next barrier recovers. In other words, if you destroy them faster than that, the barriers eventually can’t be maintained, and from then on, it’s damage time. Originally, in the game, even if you destroyed the barriers, you had to repeat hitting and dodging due to the raid boss’s super armor, but…

    -PUK PUK! KWADEUK!! BBEOUK!!!

    “Puheoap?!!”

“Reality isn’t a game, and there’s no such thing as super armor.”

Three hits to the abdomen. One blow to the lowering chin. One strike to the temple of his rising face, and the old man’s face contorts as it spews blood. And as soon as the barrier recovers, laser beams and sword hammers fly in again, but at this point, when all the barriers are destroyed, the holy power going into them is diverted to attacks, increasing attack speed and volume. Whether he deliberately adjusted it that way in reality, or if that’s how the holy spell works, the laser firing speed and the weight of the sword hammers definitely became heavier. I stepped back twice again, appropriately dealing with his attacks while closing the distance.

“Three barriers left, one more recovering, 4 seconds remaining. If all four break, will you have to take another beating like just now?”

“Y-you?!! How on earth do you know my holy spells…!!!”

    -KWANG KWANG KWANG KWACHAAANG!!

“How do I know so well? That’s because I’ve achieved the feat of killing you more than 500 times.”

“W-what are you talking ab…?!! Kueoook!!!”

Don’t think salmon players don’t go for achievements? Originally, you need to kill the Pope to upgrade ep.7 weapons, but the item drop rate isn’t 100%, and the enhancement success rate isn’t 100% either. Eventually, you have to keep killing him until you succeed, and when you keep doing that, it just becomes a chore. So, wouldn’t I get everything else I can while I’m at it? That was killing you 500 times.

Completing the achievement gave me a bundle of 10 items that increase enhancement success rate by 3%. Of course, my weapons were all done before I finished that, so I just put them in storage in the end—that’s no secret.

    -BBEOUK, PUK. KWADEUK!! BBEOUK!!!

    “Pupkeueooo…!!”

“Oh my, Elder, I clearly told you, didn’t I? Don’t take walks at night, there are sc~ary predators. This is what happens when you don’t listen.”

“Hueo! T-this cannot be. This cannot…!! I am the Pope of the Great Holy Nation!! I am the ‘savior’ of this continent!!!”

“Heh, so you’re saying that line? But what can you do? You’re not a savior, and neither am I. You’ve just become mob #1 who gets beaten to death by a passing mountain keeper NPC.”

    Pattern change dialogue.

Of course, other bosses have phase 2, so there’s no reason the Pope would end this simply. The dialogue before the pattern changes is him complaining about why he, a savior, is losing to the player (savior).

And here, originally, the surrounding space would change, and he would wield Sloth’s power, that smoke, inflicting all sorts of debuffs that slow you down. But now he’s joined hands with Pride. Ah, but what is Pride’s power anyway? I really don’t know since I couldn’t play ep.8.

“No choice then. I’ll kill you before you transform.”

    -KWACHANG!!

    “KUEOOOK?!!”

Unfortunately, not attacking during transformation is a rule from my past life, but there’s no such rule here. Moreover, with Behemoth still intact above, I have neither the time nor luxury to experiment with this level 1,300 monster.

I saw something black constantly flowing from his mouth and holy magic formations, but I kept making him shut his mouth and smashing the formations to prevent whatever was trying to activate. In resistance to my thorough attacks, the number of lasers and holy weapon attacks increased, but…

-KANG KANG TANG! KANG!! KWANG!! KWACHANG!! TANG KANG!! KWACHANG!! KWANG!! KANG KANG!! TANG!!

Thanks to Ray above, I’ve had quite a rest and don’t hesitate to increase my pace. Honestly, if I hadn’t seen my clone’s attack speed and movements earlier, I might not have been able to press in this aggressively.

    -CHWAAAK. THUD!!

    “Ku, keo. Eoeo….”

“Oh my, Elder. Going to sleep? I didn’t prepare a coffin though.”

    -PPAAK!!

    “⎯⎯⎯⎯!!”

His holy power probably isn’t depleted, but the old man has been beaten to the point where he can no longer stand, and he kneels on the ground, spitting blood from every hole in his face. Of course, I have no intention of giving him time to recover, so I kick his face up with my toe and continue the beating, also carefully smashing any black demonic energy that tries to creep out. After beating him for a while like that…

    ‘…This is bad.’

    “Hueoeo…”

I keep beating, beating, beating, beating him more. But the old man doesn’t die. Above all…

[-Occupation: Raid Boss (Pope of the Holy Nation)- Level: 1,300 Name: Benedict VIII: 72 years old. (Status: Priest of Pride)]

    ‘…I can’t see his HP.’

The defensive formations through holy magic, the laser beams, the weapon throws—all automatic. The old man’s eyes are already like those of a dead person, but his attacks show no sign of dying.

“Excuse me, how exactly do you die?”

    -WUDEUK!!

    “Kuheoeo…”

Even while feeling like I’ve shattered his skull with my fist, I asked in all seriousness, not mockingly.

Perhaps this is the ability of Pride’s Seven Deadly Sins power. As I continued to beat the half-dead old man, I couldn’t shake off that growing anxiety.
