Ch.397[Episode 397] Return to the Future

“So, you’re saying this child is Sir Dominic’s granddaughter from the future?”

    “That’s right.”

Sir Dominica looked at Sir Dominia.

Sir Dominia was staring blankly at a children’s program on television, and she seemed to have had her soul stolen away, as if the show had perfectly hit her taste.

“Then… that means this child’s father is Sir Dominic’s son?”

    “I suppose so.”

Sir Dominic nodded at Lady Alice’s words.

“Then who is the person Sir Dominic married?”

Lady Alice threw a direct fastball right at Sir Dominic.

    “I don’t know.”

And Sir Dominic followed with an absurd answer.

Lady Alice was taken aback by Sir Dominic’s response and asked again.

“You said you saw the family relationship certificate, right? Your wife’s name must have been on it, didn’t you see it?”

    “That’s right.”

    “Why?”

“Because the moment I looked at it, I felt like the future would become fixed.”

Oh, good heavens. Lady Alice’s head began to throb at this straight-laced knight’s behavior.

“You gave up on such juicy content?”

“…That sounds like something a Star would say.”

    “Because I am a Star!”

Lady Alice was becoming increasingly curious about who Sir Dominic’s wife might be.

Unable to contain her curiosity, Lady Alice urged Sir Dominic to look at the family relationship certificate once more.

“Look at it again. Look at it one more time and tell me who marries Sir Dominic. I’m going crazy with curiosity!”

Lady Alice shook the now-rounded Sir Dominic, pushing and pulling him.

Despite Lady Alice’s actions, Sir Dominic calmly expressed his refusal.

    “That’s impossible.”

    “Why?”

“The authentication period has expired, and additional fees would be required for reissuance.”

“I’ll pay those fees, just tell me how much they are!”

After hearing Lady Alice’s words, Sir Dominic whispered the amount of the fees into her ear.

Sir Dominic whispered into Lady Alice’s ear for a full six seconds, and Lady Alice was left speechless, her mouth hanging open at the shocking amount.

    “…That much?”

    “That much.”

Sir Dominic nodded as if confirming it was true.

We have no way of knowing the exact figure, but it was roughly an amount that would require Lady Alice to spend almost all the wealth she had accumulated.

It was a fee that only Sir Dominic, one of the richest people in Gachaland, could afford to pay.

    “…Then I’ll just stay curious.”

Lady Alice gave up on finding out who Sir Dominic’s wife was due to the pressure of the fees.

Instead, she began to let her imagination run wild while looking at Sir Dominia.

‘Judging by her hair color, she looks like me, and the clothes and gun she’s carrying resemble Sir Dominica. And the kunai seems like that Hime person I saw before…’

Lady Alice tried her best to find information by observing Sir Dominia, but the more she looked, the more confused she became.

That’s because the hints visible in Sir Dominia were truly all over the place.

    “Gwanma! Tango!”

    “…?”

    That’s when it happened.

The children’s program she had been watching must have ended, as Sir Dominia opened her mouth, addressing someone.

    Gwanma? Did she mean grandmother?

Lady Alice, thinking she might finally find a big clue, immediately turned her head to see who Sir Dominia was pointing at.

And Lady Alice couldn’t help but be surprised.

The person Sir Dominia was pointing at was none other than Lady Alice herself.

    “M-me?”

    “Yep. Gwanma. Tango.”

Sir Dominia was clearly, definitely, unmistakably pointing at Lady Alice.

This meant that Sir Dominia’s grandmother was Lady Alice, which meant—

Through a complex thought process, Lady Alice finally reached a single conclusion.

    Me, marrying Sir Dominic?

    “H-hehe.”

Lady Alice tried to act nonchalant, but she couldn’t hold back her laughter.

However, that laughter didn’t last long.

It was because of another statement that Sir Dominia uttered.

    “Gwanma! Stew! Stew!”

“It seems she wants to eat stew again. Sir Dominica? Could you bring some stew?”

Sir Dominia was also calling Sir Dominica grandmother.

    Why?

Lady Alice wondered, tilting her head.

And then she realized one fact.

For Sir Dominia, there wasn’t just one grandmother.

For Sir Dominia, there would be at least four grandmothers.

It was an issue anyone could notice if they traced back Sir Dominia’s family tree, but Lady Alice, in the joy of being called grandmother first, had failed to notice this fact.

In the end, the question of who married Sir Dominic fell back into mystery.

The fortunate thing was that the number of candidates was narrowed down to those whom Sir Dominia called grandmother—

    Ding dong-.

    “Is anyone there?”

    Just then.

The sound of someone knocking at the front door was heard from outside.

    “I’ll get it!”

Sir Dominic got up from his seat and rolled to the entrance.

And when he flung the door open, there stood a Heaven Delivery courier with a package.

“Ah, Sir Dominic. You’ve gained some weight since I last saw you?”

    “Do you think so?”

“Well, we don’t care who the recipient is as long as we deliver the package.”

“Besides, your inner self is still the same,” said the angel.

At that moment, Sir Dominia suddenly climbed down from the sofa and toddled to the entrance, then tilted her head and pointed a finger at the angel.

She seemed to have gotten bored after being ignored when she asked Lady Alice to change the channel earlier.

    “Gwanma?”

And the word that came out of Sir Dominia’s mouth was not much different from what she had said to Sir Dominica and Lady Alice just before.

    “Gwanma?”

    The angel tilted her head.

    “What does that mean?”

    “It seems to mean grandmother.”

Sir Dominic hurriedly signed the papers and handed them over, as if trying to smooth over the situation.

“It seems she calls everyone she sees grandmother.”

“Haha. Children’s eyes are… so accurate. I can’t believe she recognized that I’m an old maid who hasn’t dated in a long time.”

The angel laughed at Sir Dominic’s words but suddenly made a bitter expression.

In truth, the angel hadn’t had a proper relationship in hundreds of thousands of years.

Well, that was because she had been busy with Heaven Delivery work.

It was only natural that immortals, who don’t need to sleep, would be given more harsh working conditions.

The boss of Heaven Delivery held such a principle, though other immortals might disagree.

“…I apologize. I’ve made you uncomfortable.”

“No, no. Well, this is a common occurrence for us…”

The angel said, pulling her cap with the winged delivery box logo down over her face.

Anyone could see she had taken significant damage, but the angel pretended nothing was wrong.

“Anyway, I’ll be going now. Please use Heaven Delivery again next time!”

With those words, the angel soared high into the sky.

For some reason, it seemed like a few drops of water fell from the sky.

    “…Children’s innocence sometimes becomes poison.”

Sir Dominic sighed about the incident caused by Sir Dominia’s innocence.

Sir Dominia looked up at Sir Dominic with a tilted head, as if she didn’t know what she had done.

With an expression that seemed to ask, “Did I do something wrong?”

“No, you didn’t do anything wrong.”

Sir Dominic patted Sir Dominia’s head.

Though it wasn’t often visible due to Sir Dominic’s knightly demeanor, he had a habit of patting the heads of those smaller than him when reassuring them.

    “…Would you like some jelly?”

Sir Dominic took out jelly from his inventory and handed it to Sir Dominia.

    “Jelly!”

At that, Sir Dominia, as if she had never been downcast, jumped up and down and took the jelly Sir Dominic offered.

And like a gourmet, she began to enjoy the happy sweetness by dividing one piece into several bites.

This aspect seemed to resemble Sir Dominic.

After all, Sir Dominic also liked sweet things.

“By the way, I really need to lose weight starting tomorrow.”

    “Ah.”

Sir Dominic sighed as he returned to the living room with Sir Dominia.

Just now, when returning from the front door, he had somehow almost gotten stuck between the walls.

Sir Dominica had been so preoccupied with the more shocking fact about Sir Dominia than Sir Dominic’s appearance that she had forgotten about his current state.

“I’ll have to train twice as hard tomorrow.”

Sir Dominic was already thinking about the training he would do tomorrow.

The break was over, and it was time to return to being the original Sir Dominic.

Just as Sir Dominic was steeling his resolve…

    “…I give up. I really don’t know anything anymore…”

The appearance of the angel and Sir Dominia calling her grandmother.

Lady Alice, who had returned to a state of confusion because of this, was rubbing her face in frustration, feeling a sense of futility about the case that had gone back to square one.
