Ch.38The Library Takeover Incident (3)
by fnovelpia
The library quickly turned into chaos.
“W-what is this?”
“These crazy bastards!”
“Kyaah! How disgusting!”
Librarian Isabella jumped to her feet.
“You all, what do you think you’re doing?!”
The commoners who had entered the library stood up in unison, raising their staffs to the sky and shouting slogans.
“Commoners have the right to use the library too!”
“It’s unfair that only nobles can use it!”
“If you surrender, there will be no bloodshed!”
“…Bloodshed? Hans, you’re using some difficult words. It sounds cool though.”
“Hehe, thanks.”
Justin shouted.
“We won’t stop anyone who wants to leave. If you don’t want to get hurt, please go! I’m begging you.”
The library guardians were already in the process of evacuating students.
Some nobles left, saying this was too much trouble. The commoners didn’t try to stop those who were leaving.
Each Expert was a powerful individual. But those leaving were nobles from other classes.
“Good. Don’t interfere.”
“I’ve been thinking about teaching them a lesson anyway, so this works out.”
Most of the Expert class students remained, determined to face the commoners.
However, since it was close to closing time, there were only about two or three of them left.
Isabella walked forward with furious eyes.
“If you wanted a magic duel, I would have accepted anytime. How cowardly of you commoners. To think you’d rush in right before the library’s closing time.”
When lower-ranked classes felt they were being treated unfairly by higher-ranked classes, they could declare a magic duel.
In this case, they could freely use magic to fight within a designated area. The time period was generous enough to see pure skill without the intervention of luck.
The loser had to comply with whatever the winner wanted. In other words, the intention of the commoners who had rushed into the library was obvious. They were using trickery because they knew they couldn’t win in a fair fight.
“Hmph, who would follow rules made by nobles?”
“You’re the cowards! Noble scum! You kicked us out with ridiculous excuses about etiquette!”
“That’s right!”
Isabella was so dumbfounded that she shouted.
“You left boogers on books and stole items! You were nothing but a nuisance, what were we supposed to do? We gave you plenty of chances!”
“Isabella. It’s not good to judge everyone based on a few people.”
Justin said confidently.
His eyes were full of justice.
“We don’t want to hurt anyone. Please. Listen to what we have to say.”
“Listen to us!”
“Listen!”
“…How does this look like people who came to talk? Get out of the library right now, you’re dirtying the carpet!”
Isabella stomped her foot. Walls rose from the floor, trying to push back the commoners.
“Dispel.”
At that moment, Catherine swung her staff. The walls immediately disappeared. Isabella’s eyes filled with surprise.
Catherine crossed her arms and frowned severely.
“We complained for a week, and you didn’t listen to a damn thing.”
“Lady Catherine…! You’re a noble too, you should understand what these commoners are doing!”
“Ha, commoners are a bit rude because they haven’t learned etiquette. If you just waited a little, they would learn on their own. Can’t you even wait that long?”
“It’s not about waiting or not waiting, the problem is they don’t do it even when we teach them!”
Isabella grabbed the back of her neck and pointed at the commoners’ boots.
“Just look at the mud on the carpet. I begged you so many times to clean your boots before coming to the library, but even at this moment, you still don’t listen!”
Dozens of commoners flinched.
But soon they stretched out their hands and shouted.
“Why would we clean our boots when we’re coming to fight!”
“My grandmother said that shaking off the dirt from boots drives away good fortune! If you want to talk about that, speak to my grandmother!”
“Stop oppressing commoners-!”
As the crowd murmured and protested, Isabella’s face grew increasingly red.
Gabriel, a library guardian, put his hand on Isabella’s shoulder.
“You’re just stressing yourself out. Let’s push them back.”
Five Experts, including the library guardians, were holding their ground.
Isabella put her hands on her hips and said to the commoners.
“So, what are you going to do by gathering like this? You’re just a disorganized mob.”
The powerful magical energy of the Expert students flowed through the library.
“Kuh, hehe.”
A mischievous but cute voice rang out. Everyone’s attention briefly turned in that direction.
Nia Ryan approached with her purple eyes gleaming.
“Nia! Perfect timing!”
Nia was Isabella’s close friend. She was a possessor of tremendous magical power, considered one of the top students in the class.
Isabella’s lips curled into a smirk. Now all that was left was to teach these arrogant commoners a lesson.
But.
Nia’s steps led her toward the commoners.
She crossed her arms, looked up at Isabella, and declared proudly:
“Nia is on the commoners’ side!”
“?”
Isabella furrowed her brow, not understanding.
Nia took out her staff and shouted.
“Because it seems fun!”
‘That idiot!’
Isabella immediately understood the situation. This chatterbox was acting on her curiosity again.
“This isn’t the time for jokes, Nia! This is serious!”
“Nia is serious too. Fufu.”
Nia took out her staff and drew a circle in the air. Isabella immediately stepped back and summoned a stone wall.
With a loud bang, the stone wall shattered. A giant made of water stood before them.
Nia’s specialty, familiar summoning.
“Nia!”
Isabella called out sternly. Nia raised her hand to the sky with a villainous laugh.
“Subdue them all!”
“Haah, you’re really being annoying. I’ll see you in class.”
The Expert class students all raised their staffs and manifested their respective magics.
Nia was strong, but not overwhelmingly so.
There was no way she could handle six students of similar level.
Not if she was alone.
“Dispel! Dispel! Dispel!”
Catherine quickly chanted three times, forcibly canceling magic.
“You gave me dirty looks for smelling bad… I’ve been bathing every day because of that.”
“I can’t take it anymore. Why should I attend the academy while being conscious of you all?”
But that wasn’t all. The “Expert class commoners” who had been hiding inside also appeared. They had been waiting for the right timing.
This put the nobles at a disadvantage. The Expert students were filled with confusion.
“Justin! We’ll handle things here, go upstairs and take control! There probably isn’t much up there!”
“Got it.”
Justin responded to Catherine’s shout, and a group of 30 other commoners moved with him.
“You think we’ll just let you go!”
Isabella tried to create a hole in the floor, but an attack came in and she failed.
Isabella bit her lip.
At this rate, they might really lose the library to the commoners.
Justin ran at the front. Various spells flew at them, but he didn’t stop. He thought the only way to quell this disturbance was to achieve their goal as quickly as possible.
Just as he was about to climb the stairs with quick steps.
At the top of the stairs, a person was sitting.
It was a girl holding a fox in her arms, sighing deeply as she looked at him.
“…Hersy.”
“How dare you speak to me so casually? You feather thief.”
“Feather thief?”
The commoners rushed in behind Justin. They were panting because Justin’s pace had been so fast.
“Justin…! Why is a magician so fast? Huh?”
They were surprised to see Hersy.
But only for a moment. No matter how talented Hersy was as the top student, it would be impossible for her to block so many people alone.
Hersy stood up and put the fox down on the floor. “Wait behind me for a moment,” she said in a gentle voice, then took out her staff.
Justin tried to talk.
“We just want to shout our slogans from the rooftop and come back down. Please. Step aside.”
“…?”
Hersy frowned as if she was looking at a strange creature.
Justin spoke with a compelling voice.
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Hurt? Me?”
Hersy pointed at herself with a bewildered expression.
Justin spoke as if frustrated.
“Even for someone like you, it’s impossible to face this many people…”
“Ha…”
Hersy ran her hand through her hair and said.
“I must have been keeping too low a profile lately. To think commoners who don’t know their place would underestimate me. I should thank Ruide for this.”
As magical power gathered around Hersy, Justin urgently said.
“I’m serious. I don’t want to fight you!”
Hersy held her staff with her left hand. As she slowly raised it, her staff turned green.
The staff began to change shape. In an instant, it took the form of a bow. It looked as if she was holding light in her hand.
It was the Minerva family’s unique magic, ‘Wind Failnote.’
“Let’s talk…”
“Shut up.”
Hersy said coldly.
“If you came to fight, raise your staff, idiot.”
“What?”
Hersy drew her bow. An emerald arrow was nocked and glowed softly.
“pătrunde.”
She released the bow while uttering the rune word.
Swoosh!
The magic arrow, imbued with powerful magical energy, was fired.
Justin hurriedly threw himself to the side. It was an almost instinctive movement.
However, the crowd of commoners behind him couldn’t dodge. They cast barriers, but that was all they could do.
BOOM!
An explosion occurred when the arrow collided with the barriers. The explosion not only shattered the barriers but also struck multiple barriers without stopping.
“Kyaaak!”
Sharp screams.
The explosion caused the stairs to collapse, raising dust. When it settled, no one was standing.
She had subdued everyone with a single shot.
Justin looked at them with a shocked face.
Those whose barriers had been broken by Hersy’s magic had fallen and suffered quite serious injuries.
“…Now I understand.”
Justin stood up, muttering with a dark expression. He glared directly at Hersy.
“You never intended to talk from the beginning. And to do something this cruel. You’re evil.”
“pătrunde.”
Hersy shot an arrow as if Justin wasn’t even worth responding to.
