Ch.376Ship Storage Service ‘The Hive’ (1)
by fnovelpia
The method to implement a “storage service” next to the Tannhäuser was as follows:
—————————————–
Step 1. Gather asteroids commonly found in space.
Step 2. Place the asteroids in appropriate positions, melt them slightly, and fuse them together.
Step 3. Create many of these fused asteroid structures.
Step 4. Repeat the above process extensively to build honeycomb-like structures outside the Tannhäuser using these “asteroid” walls.
Step 5. Place one ship in each structure, with security fleets guarding the entrances.
—————————————–
“It’s truly a perfect plan, don’t you think?”
“Thanks to it, I had to watch other Commanders wailing as the asteroids in the surrounding resource zones were completely depleted.”
But while this plan might seem perfect(?) and easy on paper.
In reality, there were numerous problems piling up…
“We were so short on asteroids that we had to completely dismantle three nearby planets, right?”
“…”
“And I had to handle all the administrative issues that arose during that process.”
“I’m sorryyyyy!”
Seeing Jessica who worked so hard handling all that chaos, I decided to express my deepest gratitude.
==========
Anyway, after diligently creating ‘The Hive’.
Since just building it wouldn’t let other users know what this thing was for.
I quietly opened the renamed ‘Triangle Zone Chat Room’ to tell users about our ‘Hive’.
Although in the process, our exhausted Jessica showed signs of subtly challenging me…
“Commander, isn’t that not just talking but actually ‘advertising’?”
“In some alien languages, they sometimes call it that.”
“…”
I judged that Jessica’s challenge was simply due to fatigue from hard work.
So I just brushed it off and proceeded with my original plan to conduct some not-quite-advertising advertising.
Of course, since I’ve never formally studied marketing, it was obvious that an amateurish approach would lead to disastrous results…

-[Ship storage? LOL]
-[I was wondering why asteroids kept disappearing, so you were making that?]
-[I knew asteroids could be fused when melted, but this is the first time I’ve seen it used like that]

I decided to go with a direct approach rather than attempting viral marketing.
And thanks to that, along with confused opinions about my sudden announcement in the chat.
There were also many interested comments here and there, so the initial start seemed fine.
But a day later.
“Why is almost no one coming?”
With a total population of nearly 2,000, I had built almost 100 ‘Hives’ so that at least 5% could store their ships.
But only 2-3 people were actually using it.
I couldn’t help but wonder what the problem was.
“Well, Commanders who checked the chat room but are at Avalon and Barracuda would have plenty of docking facilities.”
“…But there are Tannhäuser users too.”
“If I may say so, honestly, your resource acquisition rate is extraordinarily high for an ‘individual,’ Commander.”
“That’s… true.”
“Other Commanders can’t obtain massive resources like you, so if they lose ships in battle, wouldn’t it take them longer to recover?”
“I guess you’re right.”
Despite the positive reactions, the reason why only 2-3 people were actually storing their ships in our carefully built storage facilities.
Was ultimately because the surrounding users weren’t in a situation where they had enough surplus to use the “fleet point exceeding trick” I mentioned.
I felt I had targeted the wrong customer base and started wondering what to do with all these mass-produced hives.
But that didn’t last long…

<You have accepted the chat.>

After unexpectedly receiving a chat from a random user and granting permission to use the storage facility…

“Argghhhhh.”
With chat requests suddenly flooding in, I wondered what was happening.
After somehow accepting and handling them all, including the chat with the first user.
I noticed that all the other users also mentioned seeing a post in the ‘gallery,’ so I quietly opened the gallery window.
And what I saw as soon as I opened the gallery was…

Title: Icarus made something weird
Author: Anonymous
Content: [Close-up image of ‘The Hive’ made by Icarus.jpg], [Screenshot of Icarus’s promotional chat messages.jpg]
From what I heard, it’s a storage facility for storing unclaimed ships that exceed fleet points
I took a Superhuman to check it out just in case, but there are no gaps since it’s made by welding asteroids and planet fragments
The only entrance is guarded 24/7 by the Tannhäuser security fleet
Plus defense turrets around are ready to provide cover
And Icarus’s own fleets also irregularly patrol the area for security(?) when he has time
So for users who are struggling to defend their own bases, rather than leaving their “unclaimed ships” at their bases where they can’t protect them.
It might be a decent option to pay a bit more resources and entrust their ships to this place with better defenses than their own bases

‘…So that’s how it happened.’
After understanding the situation through the gallery post, I realized why people suddenly flocked here and felt very complicated emotions.
