Ch.362The Country of My In-Laws (2)
by fnovelpia
With the axe I had received by chance, I slaughtered one of the witches charging at me.
SWOOSH-!
As the witch’s body was cut apart like firewood, blood spurted from her body. But… the blood was green. She clearly wasn’t human. I’d never heard of humans with green blood.
“Grrgh!! You’re strong! No matter!! Push forward!!”
There were three witches in total. All three narrowed the distance between us while riding broomsticks.
“Damn it…!”
I clicked my tongue and immediately raised my axe.
“Shit!! This isn’t the kind of witch I was expecting!! You pickled radish hags!!”
I roared loudly.
What do you think witches are supposed to be?!!! These wrinkled old crones are outdated!! Witches should be pretty and sexy!! That’s the trend!! The plot where you get sold as a slave to a witch and end up living happily with her!! That’s what’s popular these days!! Or becoming a witch’s familiar and doing all sorts of naughty things!! Why isn’t any of that happening?!
“Now!! Kill him!!”
The three witches immediately dove down on their broomsticks. They were positioning themselves to surround me.
“LOK’TAR OGAR!!!!”
I shouted loudly as I swung my axe in a whirlwind motion. The memory of battle came back to me—slashing down those Alliance scum who would periodically show up in front of the Orgrimmar auction house when I was bored! Thrall! Are you watching?!! I’m doing all this to protect you!!
SCREEEECH-!!
The blade of the axe made a shrill sound as it tore through the air.
SWOOOOSH-!!!
Immediately, blood sprayed from all directions.
“KYAAAAH!!!”
The witches instantly became minced meat and corpses.
“Gurghk…!”
With that, the witches breathed their last. Though axes have worse balance than swords, their power was tremendous. The cutting force generated by the weight concentrated at the end was terrifying.
“We have no choice!! Throw the potion!!”
But there were still some witch stragglers left.
However, the witch wasn’t aiming for me. She threw a jar right into the middle of the parking lot.
“What the…”
While I was confused, the fallen jar broke and smoke billowed up.
WHOOSH-!!
Something like a dimensional gate appeared through the smoke.
“That’s… not a dimensional gate from our world.”
Violet, the dimensional gate expert, muttered with surprised eyes.
It was from another world, she meant.
“KEEEEEK!!”
And then something rushed out from there in droves.
They were dwarves! And they were wearing pointy hats!!
“Kill them!! Kill the humans!!”
“We’ll avenge the exploitation we suffered! Snow White!!”
The dwarves charged toward us wielding pickaxes.
“Shit!! What is this?!”
They were literally the dwarves from fairy tales. The ones from Snow White!!
I could tell they were real, not illusions or holograms. Their levels were displayed above their heads.
‘Level: 80’
And they were high! Their specs were completely end-game content.
‘End-game content?’
In that moment, I realized something.
I recalled an interview with the developer of the game I had possessed into.
‘Actually, we were planning to make a DLC in the form of a side story. We’re thinking of creating a dungeon with a fairy tale concept. We’ve added end-game content for around December, just before seeing the game’s ending.’
The developer’s interview came to mind.
‘So this is it…’
It was a hint for this!!
“Damn it!!! They’ve deployed Fairy 02! Return fire!!”
The airport security and the officials escorting us immediately fired their pistols.
RATATATATAT-! TAT-!!
The power of modern firearms was considerable. The dwarves hit by bullets were immediately swept away.
“I’ll join the fight too!”
Tina immediately raised her fists.
“You cannot, Princess!”
The bodyguards immediately protected Tina. Of course, it would be a disaster if the princess got hurt here.
“Let’s go!! Kana!! Kirtan!!!”
It was daytime, so I couldn’t summon the Psychorobo. We somehow had to manage with just the strong ones among us without the Psychorobo. I thought about calling Taiga too, but… it was iffy. Taiga was kind of ambiguously strong.
“Weapons?”
Kana looked around.
“Here’s an axe!”
A bodyguard pulled an axe out of the trunk. These guys really love axes. Is it because they’re from Northern Europe? Descendants of Vikings or something?
“I don’t like axes….”
Kana clicked her tongue but took the axe.
“We just need to take them out somehow, right?”
Kirtan was already prepared to fight.
“Let’s go!! Victory or death!!!!”
I immediately charged toward the dwarves with my axe in hand.
“Die!! You dwarf dung bags!!”
The urgent task was to break through. I immediately tightened my waist muscles and swung the axe horizontally with all my might.
SWOOOOOOSH!!!!!!
The axe tore through the dwarves in front of me.
CLANG-!!
The dwarves’ bodies were harder than I expected. Because of that, the edge of the axe blade got chipped.
SWOOSH-! SWISH-!
Thanks to Kana and Kirtan diligently slicing up dwarves behind me, a gap opened up.
“I’ll borrow this!”
I picked up a pickaxe from a dwarf’s corpse.
“HYAH!!”
I immediately swung the pickaxe and smashed the skulls of the dwarves in front of me. The pickaxe seemed to get a blunt weapon bonus. Since I had already significantly increased my weapon proficiency in the weapon dungeon, I could skillfully use pretty much any weapon I picked up.
By the time I had cut down more than 10 dwarves, the battle began to show signs of ending.
WHOOSH-!
As the fog cleared, the dwarves that had been continuously respawning through the dimensional gate disappeared.
“Phew… did we make it.”
I put down my weapon.
I had a strong feeling that we had come to an absurdly strange country.
——–
After the situation was resolved, we all got into the limousine.
Since it was the princess’s vehicle, the limousine occupied the entire highway. It was an escort vehicle.
“Tina. Explain what’s going on.”
I said bluntly.
“I never thought… the kingdom’s public safety would deteriorate this much. At this rate, there’s no point in hiding it anymore.”
Tina opened her mouth.
“Fairy 02, a biochemical weapon, is the cause.”
At that moment, the bodyguard who was driving spoke up.
Ah… that strange fog the witches were spraying. The dwarves jumped out from there.
“Our Neverdreaming Kingdom is different from other countries. Mr. Arigiri… do you believe in other dimensions?”
The bodyguard asked me.
“Yes.”
I answered flatly. Since I came here from another dimension myself, there’s no way I wouldn’t believe it.
“Our Neverdreaming Kingdom… experienced a catastrophe called ‘The Celestial Convergence’ around the 14th century. When dimensional planes overlapped… monsters that didn’t exist in the original world began to rampage. Goblins, kobolds… dwarves, giants—creatures that should only exist in fairy tales crossed dimensions and attacked the Neverdreaming Kingdom.”
The bodyguard explained.
I see. In other words, portals opened from another world. It was similar to the Emoshita situation we were experiencing now.
“You probably have a general idea about our Neverdreaming Kingdom. Honestly, our country is unusual. That’s… because in the 14th century, our world overlapped with a world of fantasy. Living in such a bizarre world gave rise to bizarre culture.”
The bodyguard watched me through the rearview mirror as he spoke.
“Ah… I see.”
I thought it was too strange.
“Our royal family are descendants of the knight class who protected people against monsters. After our royal family suppressed the chaos, we established the Neverdreaming Kingdom.”
Tina provided some background.
“Along with the bloodline of the royal family that our princess has inherited, a man brought order to the Neverdreaming Kingdom. A hero who pulled out the holy sword. That man drove away the fantasy monsters and sealed them. Order was restored after that. The young female ruler of the royal family and the hero married and continued the royal bloodline.”
The bodyguard said.
“With that, everything was supposed to be buried as a legendary tale… but a force emerged that tried to break the seal and summon beings from other worlds again. Those are the witches.”
The bodyguard continued the story while skillfully driving the car.
“But why…?”
“The beings from fairy tales are a threat to humans, but they also brought prosperity to the kingdom. You know the legends of the goose that lays golden eggs, the mill that produces unlimited salt when turned, seeds that grow unlimited soldiers when planted, and so on. Such useful items poured in from other worlds. It’s true that we gained enormous national power based on that. They long for those days.”
The bodyguard explained.
True, there are many overpowered artifacts in fairy tales. If used properly, some could even rule the world.
“Therefore, they are trying to break the seal and summon beings from fairy tales again. To make the Neverdreaming Kingdom great again… they are extremists who want to wage war against the entire world.”
Listening to the bodyguard’s words gave me chills. They were basically fairy tale Hitlers.
“They secretly conducted research and created a weapon, Fairy 02, which temporarily opens gates to other worlds. Based on that, they declared war against the Neverdreaming royal family. Currently, they’re limited to localized terrorist acts… but to think they would infiltrate the airport.”
The bodyguard clicked his tongue.
“Seems like we’ve come to a country with extremely complicated circumstances?”
Eri said.
Yeah, I’ll admit that.
“It can’t be helped. There’s a prophecy that in times of chaos, a hero will appear.”
At that moment, Tina said that while firmly grasping my hand.
“We have no choice but to have my husband pull out the holy sword.”
Tina said resolutely.
“Holy sword?”
I questioned that point.
“Yes!! You’ll become the hero! My husband!!”
Tina seemed intent on entrusting me with another troublesome task.
“Please… save our kingdom.”
Tina said with adorable, teary eyes.
“…….”
I couldn’t refuse when she put it like that. I decided to go to the kingdom first and hear the details.
