    Chapter 36 – Misunderstanding

As Andreina had said, the two people came in the morning.

    “Mari!”

    “Ah, hello Yuika.”

“What is this outfit? It’s so cute…!”

I had been fast asleep until just now, so I was still wearing the silk dress I borrowed from Andreina.

I gave an awkward smile to Yuika, who kept exclaiming how cute it was, then turned my head to look at the woman standing blankly.

The woman, adorned in monochrome from head to toe, felt quite familiar to me.

It was like I had seen her somewhere before. Of course, I didn’t actually mean that I had seen her before.

I whispered to Yuika, who was sparkling her eyes in front of me.

“Um, who is the person behind Yuika…”

    “Behind? Oh, right.”

Yuika suddenly stood up as if she had just remembered, then gestured towards the woman and said.

“Introduce yourself. This is Ms. Kang Hanna. And Hanna, this is Mari. She has a full name, but everyone calls her Mari.”

    “…Nice to meet you.”

“Ah, yes. Nice to meet you…”

I felt a sense of familiarity, and as expected, Kang Hanna was Korean.

More than that, isn’t her voice too small? I wasn’t exactly loud myself, but Hanna’s voice was even quieter.

As Hanna and I exchanged greetings, Andreina, who had returned to her usual self, stood beside me and said.

“Ms. Yuika, Ms. Hanna. You both came early.”

“Ah, yes. I thought it would be best to clear up any misunderstandings quickly.”

    “Misunderstandings…?”

Was there a misunderstanding between Yuika and me? As I wore a puzzled expression, Yuika waved her hand and laughed.

“It’s not about me, it’s about Hanna.”

“Ms. Hanna… I see. So that’s how it happened.”

    “Yes? What is it?”

At Yuika’s words, Andreina muttered as if she had realized something, but I couldn’t understand it at all.

Looking back and forth between the two in a flustered state, Hanna, who had been standing still, opened her mouth.

“Someone came to visit two days ago, right?”

“Yes? Ah, yes. That did happen, but how did you…”

I hadn’t told anyone about it except for Andreina. But for someone I was meeting for the first time today to bring it up as if she knew all about it, it was quite suspicious.

As I grabbed Andreina’s sleeve and hid behind her, a slight look of embarrassment appeared on Hanna’s expressionless face.

Seeing that, Yuika, who had been looking at Andreina with envious eyes, chimed in.

“There’s no need to be so wary. Hanna is here to apologize to Mari.”

“Apologize… We’re meeting for the first time today…?”

“It’s true that we’re seeing each other’s faces for the first time today, but it’s not entirely the first time. Right, Hanna?”

    “Ah, yes.”

It’s true that we’re seeing each other’s faces for the first time, but it’s not entirely the first time?

I tilted my head, wondering if they were playing some kind of riddle, and Hanna, who had been hesitating, continued.

“I was the one who knocked that night.”

“…Yes? Ms. Kang was the one who knocked?”

Hanna’s words confirmed that it was a person, not a ghost, as Andreina had said, but I couldn’t hide my absurd feelings.

I mean, you can imagine how much I was worried because of that knock.

Still hiding behind Andreina, I stared intently at Hanna, who continued in a slightly urgent voice.

“I didn’t mean to scare you. I just heard a scream, so I was wondering if something was wrong…”

“Come to think of it, what made you scream? Was it a thief?!”

“Ah, no. It wasn’t anything like that, just a minor incident…”

More than that, a thief? If that was the case, it wouldn’t have ended with a scream. As I quickly denied Yuika’s words, Hanna suddenly bowed her head deeply.

“So, I came to apologize. I’m sorry.”

To be honest, I wasn’t a very generous person. I was actually quite petty and held grudges.

Because of that personality, I often had troubles while playing games, and I was often ostracized in communities.

But I’m not the type to harass someone who sincerely apologizes like this. Especially not when I’m face to face with them.

Of course, I didn’t intend to accept the apology without anything in return. No matter the reason, I had suffered a lot of mental anguish.

Thinking that, I said to Hanna, who was bowing so low that I could see the top of her head.

“…Do you know that there’s a cafe in the northern district?”

    “Yes? Ah, yes.”

    “Mari, could it be?”

Yuika smiled slyly, as if she had guessed what I was about to say.

I tried to hide my embarrassment and continued in a small voice.

“If you buy me and Andreina each a pancake from there, I’ll accept your apology.”

    “…Even me?”

“I had to rely on Andreina because of you. I can’t just receive it myself.”

    “There’s no need for that…”

Andreina muttered that, but I absolutely couldn’t allow it. If you receive a favor, you should return it.

As I looked at her with determined eyes, Hanna nodded.

“If that’s what it takes to apologize, I’ll do anything.”

“Ah, but the cafe will be closed for a while, so you won’t be able to buy pancakes. The master is going down to the dungeon.”

    “Eh, wh, why…”

As I was flustered by the unexpected words, Yuika said as if asking what I was talking about.

“Well, the master has to return to reality someday, right? He’s still staying on the 3rd floor, so it won’t open again for two days.”

    “That can’t be…”

    “Excuse me…”

So, I won’t be able to eat those pancakes for at least two days. As I couldn’t hide my disappointment, Hanna quietly spoke.

“I can make pancakes too. Would it be okay if I made them for you?”

“Oh, Ms. Hanna, you knew how to do that?”

“Pancakes aren’t exactly difficult to make. Would that be okay, Ms. Mari?”

“Y-You can just call me Mari.”

Ms. Mari. It’s nothing when I call someone like that, but it felt awkward to be called that by someone else.

“Then, I’ll call you Mari. Mari, you can call me Hanna.”

    “Ah, th-then Ms. Hanna…”

    “Ms. Hanna, is it…?”

    “Wh-what… is there something wrong…?”

    “No, nothing.”

I carefully asked, noticing a hint of disappointment, and Hanna shook her head.

“Anyway, according to Yuika, the cafe won’t be open for a while. So, would it be okay if I made them myself and treated you both?”

“…Could you make them as similar as possible?”

“I don’t know the exact recipe, but if it’s just the taste, probably.”

If that’s the case, it might be okay. As I nodded in agreement, I saw her slightly stiff expression soften.

Seeing that the incident was mostly settled, Yuika slyly chimed in.

“By the way, Mari, you didn’t forget about today, did you?”

    “Yes? Forget what… Ah.”

Come to think of it, today was the day the clothes I ordered were supposed to come out.

As I wore an expression of belated realization, Yuika said with a face full of smiles.

“I’ll come back with Ms. Hanna later, so you have to be ready, okay?”

    “Yes…”

    “Then see you later!”

Yuika, along with Hanna, who gave me a wave, left with cheerful steps.

After seeing them off with a fluttering wave, I let out a small breath, and Andreina said.

“It’s a relief. It wasn’t a ghost or anything, just a small misunderstanding.”

    “I know…”

“But if you’re scared at night again, you’re always welcome to come over, okay?”

    “Andreina…!”

Hehe- At Andreina’s playful words and laughter, my face turned red without me realizing it.

Andreina also has a sneaky, mischievous side that she doesn’t show.

It wasn’t long before Hanna and Yuika returned to the cathedral.

After having a simple breakfast with Andreina and getting ready, the two knocked on the cathedral door.

Andreina happened to be in the resurrection room, so it was my job to greet them.

    “You’re here?”

    “Yeah, where’s Andreina?”

“She’s in the resurrection room for a bit…”

“Ah, someone must have been killed by a monster in the dungeon.”

    Instead of answering, I nodded.

I didn’t know this, but when someone dies and is resurrected in the resurrection room, they fall down in a coffin.

The reason I woke up in a coffin when I woke up in the resurrection room before was because of that.

Of course, I didn’t see it myself, but Andreina told me about it, and the sound of the coffin falling and echoing in the cathedral wasn’t small, so I couldn’t help but believe it.

By the way, waking up in a coffin when you’re resurrected is kind of morbid. It’s like reminding you that you died, even though you’ve been resurrected.

As I was thinking about that, a white box was suddenly held out in front of me. I blinked and looked up at Hanna.

    “Um, what is this…?”

“It’s the pancakes I mentioned this morning. I tried to package them in a similar way to the ones sold at the cafe.”

    “Ah, th-thank you…”

I didn’t expect her to go that far. I received them with a slightly dazed expression, and Hanna tilted her head.

    “If there’s anything you’re not satisfied with…”

“Ah, no! It’s not that, it’s just that I didn’t expect you to make them exactly like the ones sold at the cafe. I feel kind of sorry…”

    “Is that so.”

Hanna nodded as if relieved, and I gave an awkward smile.

I’m sure she’s not a bad person, but it was difficult to deal with her. She doesn’t seem to talk much, her voice is small, and she’s monochrome overall, so she looks a bit gloomy, making it difficult to have a conversation… Huh?

That’s totally me, isn’t it? As I was doing some self-reflection and opened my eyes wide, Andreina, who had come out of the resurrection room, approached.

“It’s nice to see you two again.”

“Oh, I heard someone was resurrected, but you’re coming out alone?”

“He said he’d lie in the coffin a little longer. So I told him to do so.”

“Eh, in the coffin? Of course, it’s nice to lie in the coffin because it’s comfortable, but why…?”

“There are other people here. More than that, what are you holding in your hand…”

    “Ah, this is for Andreina.”

Yuika gave Andreina the white box she was holding (the same as the one I received) with a sweet smile, as if she had never made a disgusted expression.

    “Ah, those pancakes…”

“You don’t have to worry. …Because I made her.”

“Ah… Thank you for your consideration.”

Andreina’s expression was a bit clouded at first, but after Yuika whispered something to her, her face quickly brightened and she smiled.

I don’t know what kind of conversation they had, but Andreina’s expression improved, so it didn’t seem like it was a bad thing.
