Anyway, after pilfering and bringing half of Princess Luca’s precious monster fleet…

    <Entering Round 5…>

    <Currently matching with opponent user…>

    —————————————–

    As I proceeded with the official entry into Round 5, a thought suddenly crossed my mind.

    ‘The fleet strength is all pretty similar, but what matters is that this time I’m on the same team as a user.’

    As long as I have another fleet with similar strength to mine, if my ally isn’t completely incompetent, we should be able to win even if the NPC fleet outnumbers us.

    Of course, if there’s “team killing” like during the Ancient Empire event last time, I’d have to worry about surviving rather than winning…

    Fortunately, as indicated by us being on the “same team,” team killing is completely blocked in this event’s Round 5, so it seemed I wouldn’t have to suffer from random trolling.

    After thinking this far, I glanced at the status window, but it still only showed that matching with an opponent was in progress, with the loading bar just rolling along.

    ‘Wow, this is going to take a while.’

    I shook my head and decided to check the fleet and superhuman status that I would deploy in this round while waiting for the match.

    Of course, the fleet itself, except for the cruisers, was essentially a delegation of monster forces.

    “KIEEEEEK! KIEEEK!”

    “KYAAAAK!”

    “KWEEEEEEK!”

    “This time I will engage in politics for the citizens!”

    “?”

    “Is this a psychic illusion?!”

    They were barking nonsense so vigorously even though they hadn’t been deployed in battle yet.

    They were showing incredibly energetic appearances.

    Of course, our Princess Luca had boasted that she “raised them with affection, resources, and a bit of love♡(?)!”

    Unlike my fleet, which kept getting reset due to exploding one after another when constructed, causing leveling to constantly reset…

    Though called a “hobby fleet,” strictly speaking, since they served as Princess Luca’s personal guard, they were directly spawned by the princess, a direct descendant of the Monster Queen, with some level adjustment.

    Princess Luca had cherished, trained, fed, and raised them to level up properly, so they showed a clear difference in quality compared to my small ships.

    ‘And here I am planning to grind up the princess’s ships.’

    I had a strange feeling that I was becoming quite the jerk, but anyway.

    The important thing was that thanks to Princess Luca’s cherished personal guard fleet being mobilized, this round seemed like it would flow relatively easily compared to before.

    And along with that, since the true purpose of this battle was ultimately to “capture the flagship of the NPC fleet”…

    Unlike rounds 2, 3, and 4, where I brought superhumans specialized in fleet battles…

    “Savior, which unbeliever should I eliminate this time?”

    “Not yet, not yet.”

    This time I had brought Partia, who could handle everything and bring back the ship if I just threw her onto the enemy vessel.

    ==========

    Initially, I was going to bring Smeragi instead of Partia.

    After all, how sweet would it be to put her on the submerged Neranzara, infiltrate the enemy flagship, use her assassin stealth capabilities to their fullest, just cut down the command center, and snatch the ship?

    But according to Smeragi herself:

    “Commander, how do you think this battle will proceed, nyah?”

    “The goal is to raid and capture the enemy supership after the fleet battle.”

    “Then it’s a full-scale battle, nyah? I think Ignis or Partia would be better than me, nya.”

    “Hmm…”

    She was recommending that Ignis or Partia, who could both deal damage and tank, would be more suitable than herself as an assassin-type.

    And when I heard Smeragi’s words, it really made sense.

    ‘If there are superhumans that occasionally pop up in the NPC fleet, especially if there’s an S-rank or higher… Smeragi would probably lack stability.’

    And when choosing a damage-dealing bruiser role rather than an assassin…

    Although Ignis was the best-leveled SSS-rank superhuman I had, if we’re talking purely about the “bruiser” role that can both deal damage and tank, Partia was far superior to Ignis in terms of class.

    “Partia, I choose you.”

    “I shall live up to your expectations, our Savior.”

    After some deliberation, I decided to bring our firm-chested Partia.

    ==========

    Naturally, this meant that fleet command fell entirely to me.

    But it’s not like I’m directly commanding from a ship; I’m operating remotely from this safe fortress, so that shouldn’t be a big problem.

    And while I was having this flashback(?)…

    <Match with opponent complete>

    <Entering Round 5…>

    <Please hurry with your battle preparations, Commander.>

    —————————————–

    ‘Ah, finally!’

    After the painfully slow matching with the opponent was finally completed, and the message that Round 5 was about to begin appeared, I steeled my mental fortitude one more time to avoid faltering at the last moment.

    And simultaneously, I also offered a prayer that I wouldn’t get paired with a troll as an ally.

    ‘Please don’t let me get matched with an idiot who pushes ships or rushes recklessly just because they can’t team kill.’

    Of course, even as I prayed like this, the possibility of betrayal didn’t disappear as much as I hoped.

    I was trying to prepare countermeasures in case my opponent turned out to be a troll or an idiot.

    But before I could even establish such countermeasures, the battle entry proceeded much faster.

    <<<Round 5 Battle Entry Complete!>>>

    <Opponent User: Arcadia>

    <Notice>

    <This round will proceed with two commanders vs one NPC fleet.>

    <The strength of the NPC fleet set as the enemy will be processed as 2.5 times the total strength of the commanders who have entered this round.>

    —————————————–

    Above all, when I saw that the opponent user was someone who made such countermeasures completely unnecessary, I threw the notes of betrayal prevention plans I had been jotting down into the trash bin of the command center’s computer.

    Then I immediately opened the chat window with a bright face to welcome her, as we were fighting together again after a long time.

    <Event Exclusive Chat Window>

    -[Long time no see!]

    -[This is the first time we’re fighting together since the Ancient Empire event!]

    -[Looking forward to working with you](Icarus)

    -[Yes]

    -[To be precise, it’s the first time since I contacted you about the base representative issue](Arcadia)

    -[Ah right, that’s true](Icarus)

    —————————————–

    And since Arcadia was showing a good response, I felt that luck might be on my side for this round.

    But that thought was short-lived.

    —————————————–

    <Event Exclusive Chat Room>

    -[Oh by the way]

    -[What’s your fleet composition?](Icarus)

    -[5 cruisers including a Hood-class, 3 light cruisers, 10 destroyers, and 2 patrol ships](Arcadia)

    -[Thanks]

    —————————————–

    Hearing Arcadia’s forces, when combined with my current fleet:

    ‘Let’s see, combining with mine, that’s about 8 cruisers, 2 medium cruisers, 5 light cruisers, 15 destroyers, and 21 patrol ships.’

    And the enemy would have 2.5 times this ‘level’ of power.

    That meant there would probably be several battleships clustered together, along with something like a dreadnought as the flagship, but I thought that would be plenty manageable for two rankers like us.

    Of course, the dreadnought would clearly have tough armor and robust internal troops and defense systems.

    This battle would likely involve grinding through the NPC fleet first, then conducting a siege against the dreadnought.

    When I expressed this opinion, Arcadia also agreed.
