Ch.32The Homeless Test Subject (3)
by fnovelpia
“Phew…”
The administrator finally detached himself from me, drooling a long string of saliva between the bottle and his lips.
“Thank you, thank you. Thank you for giving me the potion…”
“Are you feeling better now?”
“Yes… Haah… But why did you come…?”
“I wanted to file a residence registration.”
“Residence registration…? There’s a mentally disturbed person who wants to come live in our village…?”
“I’m that mentally disturbed persoooon.”
When Brasya emerged from behind me, the administrator stared at her blankly.
Then he panicked, stumbling backward until he hit the community center door.
“M-monster…!”
“I’m not a monster, I’m a half-goblin, you know?”
“Eek…! That’s even stranger…!”
As the administrator tried to escape through the door, he stepped on the hem of his robe and fell flat on his face.
“What kind of woman is that to be an administrator.”
Mirella clicked her tongue disapprovingly.
“Administrator. She’s not a monster but a half-goblin, with half human and half goblin blood. She won’t cause any harm.”
As I helped the administrator up while explaining, he clung to me and whispered.
“If Jack says so, I’ll believe you…”
“Argh! Get off right now!”
Seeing him rubbing his chest against my body, Mirella rushed over and grabbed his chest, pulling him away forcefully.
“That hurts, Miss Mirella…!”
“Hyaang, it’s really noisy.”
Brasya smiled cheerfully watching the scene. How embarrassing.
After detaching Mirella and calming the administrator, we proceeded with Brasya’s residence registration.
“Hmm, so your name is… Brasja…”
“It’s Brasya, you know?”
“Ah, right… Brasya… Half-goblin and… how old are you…?”
“Hmm? I don’t know either.”
When the administrator looked at me with a confused expression, I shrugged.
“Just put her down as twenty. It would be more convenient to register her as an adult, don’t you think?”
“Yes… That’s right… If she were a minor, there would be all sorts of complications… So twenty it is… Umm… Where should I put down as her residence…”
“I’ll be living at the potion shop.”
Brasya blurted out something that hadn’t even been agreed upon yet.
“Right, Jack?”
“What are you talking about? I never said anything like that.”
“Hyaaang? You never said that? Didn’t you say you’d take responsibility for me?”
When the word “responsibility” came up, the administrator’s eyes nearly popped out.
“Re-responsibility…? What kind of responsibility…?”
“Jack said he’d take responsibility for me. He did a lot of bad things to me, hehe.”
The administrator’s eyes shifted to Brasya’s lower abdomen.
Due to Brasya’s voluptuous figure, her lower belly was slightly protruding as she sat on the chair.
“Re-re-re-responsibility… Between Jack and… Bra-Brasja… a child, huk, a child… residence registration… newlywed home… huuuk… hueeeeeng!!”
Mirella had already covered her ears and left the community center when the administrator started stammering, while Liberone was just staring out the window as if she couldn’t hear anything.
Brasya was just tilting her head in confusion with a smile, not understanding what was being said, so I had to step in again.
“Administrator. Get a hold of yourself. It’s not like that. Brasya’s home was destroyed by me, er, I mean by Liberone, so she has nowhere to live right now, that’s why I’m taking her in.”
“Taking her in… Brasja must have taken in Jack’s baby…!”
“Oh… good grief… Liberone. Help me out here.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Haah… Brasya. Tell her it’s not true. Stop just smiling.”
“I don’t understand what that woman is saying right now.”
“Hueeeeeeeeeng!! I knew someone like me wasn’t right for Jack…!”
A considerable headache came over me, forcing me to hold my forehead and sigh.

Somehow, we managed to complete the residence registration.
The administrator with depression collapses quickly, but what’s funny is that she also recovers just as quickly.
So after giving her another potion and explaining calmly, she understood right away and apologized with a flushed face.
Afterward, I took Brasya around the village to introduce her.
Brasya’s sharp teeth, pointed ears, and green skin are features that could easily be misunderstood by people.
Before she might get mistaken for a monster and stabbed to death with farming tools, it was necessary to make her familiar to everyone.
I explained that she was a half-goblin we happened to meet on our way back from Odelin City, with half goblin blood mixed in.
Trying to explain that she was a chimera of goblin, pig, and human from the Mad Doctor’s bizarre experiments would only cause confusion and backfire.
People surprisingly didn’t show much aversion to Brasya.
At first, they were a bit wary, but later their reactions were more like “How interesting, anyway, welcome. Hope you have a good time here.”
That’s because aside from a few features that reveal her goblin traits, Brasya has quite a cute and pretty appearance.
Although her appearance is a bit special, Brasya is pretty and cute enough that those traits become “unique characteristics” rather than flaws.
And so, Brasya’s village registration was successfully completed.
Next, I headed to the village’s pig farm with Brasya.
There, twenty pigs, including the one Brasya had brought, were sprawled out leisurely.
“How is it, Brasya? This is the pig farm where you’ll be working.”
“Hyaang, it’s nice. It’s quiet around here and there’s a river right next to it. The pigs will like it.”
Brasya laughed with her hands on her hips.
“The river is calm, the mountains are pretty, the sky is clear, and the clouds are white. It’s really a nice village. I’m glad I followed you. By the way…”
While looking at the pigs playing around the barn, Brasya asked.
“We raise these guys to eat them, right?”
“Well… yes. It can’t be helped. That’s why we brought them here.”
“It’s okay. Pigs are that kind of animal. I know they’re livestock raised to be eaten by humans. I’m curious because I’ve never tasted roasted meat before.”
Brasya licked her lips as if her mouth was watering.
Suddenly, I became curious.
How intelligent is Brasya?
Goblins are monsters with a certain level of intelligence.
It varies by type, and some species are even intelligent enough to use magic.
They form groups and create their own primitive societies.
And as we saw yesterday, they’re smart enough to set up ambushes in the middle of the night.
And Brasya has pig genes mixed in with the goblin.
Pigs are surprisingly intelligent animals.
Contrary to popular belief, pigs are smart, clean, muscular, and not that fatty.
They’re misunderstood because they’re kept confined for food purposes, defecating on the floor and getting fattened up.
The combination of goblin, human, and pig.
Judging by how she speaks almost like a human, she seems to have basic intelligence.
Plus, the fact that she followed us to make us take responsibility for destroying her house shows she’s not just a fool.
Looking at all this, it would be fair to say that Brasya is actually quite discerning.
I don’t mind if she’s not smart, but it’s better to work with someone intelligent.
In that respect, accepting Brasya into the village was truly a good decision.

When I returned to the shop with Brasya, I saw Mirella and Liberone standing in front.
Mirella was reading a paper in her hand with a very serious expression.
“Hey, Mirella. Let’s eat.”
At my voice, Mirella handed me the paper she was holding.
“Here, a letter.”
“A letter?”
Could it be from Alreina?
Happily taking it, Mirella snorted.
“Look at that grin from ear to ear.”
“Huh?”
Mirella stormed into the shop without another word.
“Hyaang, why is she acting like that? Why is she angry?”
“I don’t know…”
Brasya tilted her head and then stood on her tiptoes to look at the letter in my hand.
“Maybe the reason she’s angry is written here. Could someone have sent her something offensive?”
But it wasn’t that kind of letter.
Round, cute handwriting.
This is indeed the letter from Alreina that I’ve been waiting for.

Hello, Potion Mister. It’s me, Alreina.
I’m currently traveling around the islands of the Fredegund Archipelago.
I’m completing quests that need to be done here one by one, following the strategy guide you gave me.
They’re all tasks that everyone else gave up on as impossible, but thanks to your strategy guide, I’m solving them with ease.
I’m always grateful. You’re my life’s benefactor.
And the wounds I suffered from the lich have fortunately all healed, so I can move freely now.
When I was afflicted with life drain, I really thought I was going to die.
In my previous letter, I said I was lightly injured, but that was because I didn’t want you to worry.
In truth, I was one step away from death.
My left arm turned completely black and lost all sensation, and I couldn’t gather my thoughts due to the fear of death.
But strangely enough, I thought of you at that moment.
Your kind smile as you filled my bag with items.
Your gentle voice giving me advice about the journey ahead.
Your bangs falling down as you concentrated on making the strategy guide.
You waving until I was out of sight as I left the village.
I realized that if I died here, I would never see you again.
That thought came to me as a fear worse than death itself, and miraculously, I was able to recover.
So, Mister.
May I ask you for one favor?
When I’m having a really hard time during my adventure and it’s difficult to endure, can I think of you to gain strength?
I’m in the middle of the ocean, so it’s hard to receive a reply.
But I’m sure you would allow it.
Knowing that, I, Alreina, will overcome any crisis by thinking of you from now on.
I’ll end here.
I miss you, Mister.
Looking forward to the day when all adventures end and I can see you again, Alreina.
