Ch.327Fun Event Preparation (1)
by fnovelpia
Of course, since the message wasn’t visible to just me, there was very active discussion about this event in the gallery.
Unlike previous events, this one strictly limited the ships users could deploy.
And coupled with the fact that destroyed ships would ‘not’ be restored…
Unlike before, when event participation was a given and discussions focused on in-event stories.
This time, most of the talk was about whether to participate in the event at all.

Title: Isn’t this event a bit risky?

Something feels off
One wrong move and the ships we got from gacha could go boom, right?
But is there enough to gain from this event to justify taking such a risk?
Comments:
-[It’s not that bad]
-[The Ancient Empire event from last time was the unusual one]
-[Originally, events never restored ships or superhumans that got destroyed]

Title: Upvote if you think newbies worrying about ship destruction are cute lolololol

Back in my day
We just accepted it when our SSS-class battleship got blown up by a lucky torpedo from a B-class destroyer, you know what I mean?
Comments:
-[-Wrong-]
-[Reported for fake upvote farming]
-[Pick one joke at a time, you’re doing both upvote farming and “back in my day” jokes simultaneously]
-˪[If you don’t like it, you can leave]
-˪[Oh shit]
-[But this is actually a feature of this crappy game, events or not, it’s normal for destroyed ships to stay destroyed]

Title: Isn’t the fleet restriction more significant than the no-recovery policy for this event?

Users who regularly participate in events should be at least late stage 7, averaging stage 8 by now
With fleet points exceeding 800, being limited to just 200 will feel extremely insufficient
Plus we can’t use anything above cruiser-class?
Isn’t this seriously messed up?
Comments:
-[For real]
-[It’s not ‘above’ cruiser-class, just ships that ‘exceed’ cruiser-class are restricted]
-˪[Ah I misread, sorry](Author)
-[That’s just because you’re a big-ship big-gun fetishist]
-[Honestly it is a bit awkward, you can only spam 6 cruisers at most]
-˪[If you only bring cruisers, they’ll get destroyed by surprise attacks from smaller ships, don’t do that]
-[The balance is actually decent]
-[If battleships were included, small ships would have no way to damage them except with limited torpedoes or special monitor ships]
-˪[Can’t S-class and above deal damage?](Author)
-˪[You think S-class ships are common?]
-[What the author doesn’t understand is that even among S-class ships, only those with the Firepower attribute can deal damage with their own weapons]

Of course, when they weren’t discussing participation, they were exchanging opinions about the content like this.
==========
Regardless of how the gallery was reacting.
I was racking my brain trying to assemble a fleet for this event.
But as I tried to put together an event participation fleet, I realized we had quite a few problems…
“Commander, we really don’t have many ships to deploy this time.”
“…That’s true.”
Although recently we’d acquired ships like the Kraken and Hresvelgr, which made me forget about this issue.
Basically, I was someone with absolutely terrible gacha luck…
As a result of not being able to deploy those powerful Kraken and Hresvelgr ships for this event.
As Jessica said, we were facing a severe shortage of ships to deploy.
Back when we had smaller ships purchased from the Overseer or the “event shop,” this was less of an issue.
But all those small ships had been destroyed in fierce battles long ago.
And the Overseer had become a magnificent fireball during our last battle with the Walpurgis Alliance…
It would be fair to say I had absolutely no gacha ships of cruiser-class or below at my disposal.
Of course, even if I only brought regular-grade ships to the event, there wouldn’t actually be a “problem” per se.
“Commander, what are you worrying about?”
“Well… I only have regular-grade ships to deploy for this event, so I’m feeling a bit concerned.”
“What’s the issue? Aren’t they all just ships?”
“The problem is that they’re not all the same.”
When Jessica showed she didn’t understand my concern, I found a post that explained it perfectly and showed it to her.

Title: Guys, I don’t have any gacha ships cruiser-class or below, what should I do?

I have gacha battleships and carriers, but I sold or lost the ones I used to have
What should I do? Should I try to pull new ones now?
Or just go with regular-grade ships?
Comments:
-[You can go with regular-grade, it’s fine]
-[It’s okay, nobody will say anything]
-˪[Nobody will say anything, sure lolololololol]
-[I think it might be better not to participate in the event at all, regular-grade ships don’t have any special abilities]
-[High chance you’ll get completely destroyed by users with gacha ships]
-˪[What a loser… how can you say that]
-˪[You’re just trying to lure in newbies to improve your own score]
-[Lolololol]
-[Look at the commenter above getting called out lololol]
-[What’s with these weird comment reactions, should I not participate then?](Author)
-˪[Yep]
-˪[More precisely, it doesn’t matter whether you do or not, but unless you’re genuinely skilled or smart enough to crush opponents with strategy and tactics, there’s no hope]

Only then did Jessica realize what I was worried about, and her expression changed to match the one I’d been wearing.
“Plus, it’s not just about the ships, deploying superhumans is also an issue.”
“Ah.”
“Having to deploy different superhumans each round makes it really tough.”
“So that’s why you’ve been so worried, Commander.”
Well, it’s better than not being able to deploy superhumans at all.
If we were just facing pirates, it might be different, but beyond just being well-leveled.
At this point, facing user fleets likely filled with special forces like “superhuman soldiers” was quite concerning.
But while I was deep in thought.
“At this rate… it seems like commanders will have to fight with ‘just’ their skills.”
“You’re not wrong.”
The moment I heard Jessica’s words.
I remembered how recently, people had been saying my abilities weren’t 50% skill and 50% ship advantage, but more like 10% skill and 90% ship advantage.
No, they weren’t just saying I relied on ship advantages… rumors were spreading that I was only successful because of my base advantages.
‘…Right, now is the time to show my true skill as a ranker.’
I felt my confidence swelling as I thought about crushing all those malicious rumors head-on and proving my abilities.
“You’re right, this is the perfect chance to show why I’ve been able to place in the top 3 rankings three times.”
“Uh…”
“If I go wild with just regular-grade ships, there won’t be any more slander against me in the gallery or chat rooms.”
But while I was being so confident.
“But Commander, we just can’t deploy the Hresvelgr and Kraken, right? We can still use Neranza, can’t we?”
“…”
With Jessica’s question mark-raising comment, my plan to put on a show with regular-grade ships was quietly folded and placed in the mental trash can.
