Ch.3131. Sweet but Thirsty Old Man
by fnovelpia
If you asked me what I hate seeing the most in this world, I’d rank sweet old men who don’t know their place and hit on young women as my number one.
Since I don’t live as a woman, I haven’t seen many such men while playing Farming World, but this guy was perfectly embodying all those disgusting characteristics even though I was seeing it for the first time.
“Hey. Did you come here to please those pigs?”
“Are you crazy? Do you want to die?”
Kim Soo-jung shouted at me, forgetting I had the glass stone, then quickly lowered her voice to explain.
“That guy’s an A- tank. He’s acting like this just because he butted in and said a few words after I asked him to make a spot for you. Like I’d ever… with a balding pot-bellied old man… as if I’m lacking something… damn…”
“Sure. I won’t say anything since flirting around is a right only women can enjoy these days, but don’t do it with just anyone. You should at least go for SS+ grade to cover for an old man like that…”
“Ah, you crazy bastard. It’s not like that.”
Seeing Soo-jung get upset made me feel better.
My sympathy for my poor sister struggling with social life was short-lived.
Well, it’s the path she chose, and it’s not easy to decide whether to report these kinds of problems or not.
Though that old man did seem a bit extreme.
“Soo-jung, what do you think of the new jacket I bought today?”
“Yes… it looks nice.”
“Doesn’t it go well with my shield? It’s almost like we’re wearing couple outfits. Haha.”
“Hahaha…”
“Just trust your oppa and stay behind me. If you’re scared, you can hold onto my waist.”
Honestly, I thought it was a hidden camera prank.
Was this some show to make me vomit from disgust because I showed up?
The funny thing was that the other hunters also looked disgusted but couldn’t say anything.
Is this how much influence a hunter’s rank has in a dungeon?
Well, an A- rank hunter is in the top 1% after all…
It seemed worse because about three hunters who hung around with that old man were also snickering along. In a group, if only one person acts like an idiot, you can ostracize or ignore them, but when nearly half the group supports them, the side with more power gets more say.
Moreover, since that disgusting group performed quite well in battle, it seemed like Soo-jung and the other hunters were being carried by them, creating an atmosphere where everyone just had to put up with it.
“Wow, boss. Your tanking is killer.”
“That’s the practical style for you. See? Sending monsters away like sending women away.”
“Ugh… today is really shitty.”
During a short break, Soo-jung sat next to me and complained about how awful it was.
I didn’t even ask, but she started rambling about her grievances.
“He keeps asking me to do him favors because I asked him to make a spot for you.”
“I didn’t ask.”
“…”
“Who asked for a spot?”
I might seem like a cold brother, but seriously, I didn’t request a spot, so why is she suffering over something I didn’t even ask for?
Of course, if this was happening somewhere I couldn’t see, I might not care.
But I couldn’t just ignore my sister being harassed by a drooling old man right in front of me.
How should I handle this?
Should I just cause a scene and flip everything over?
Then Soo-jung would end up leaving the guild, and I’d have to take responsibility for what happens after.
That didn’t seem right.
It’s not a good look to overreact when she didn’t even ask for help.
While I was contemplating, fortunately, the other side picked a fight first.
“Haha. So Soo-jung’s brother just awakened recently, right?”
“Yes. About a week ago?”
Soo-jung answered flatly with the standard response. It was obvious he was trying to shift his target to me because he was upset that she wasn’t giving him the reward or response he expected for “helping” her.
Maybe he had some stupid idea that if he bothered her brother, Soo-jung, who cared enough about family to arrange a dungeon spot, might agree to see him.
I pretended not to notice and answered sincerely.
“What’s your rank? Have you registered as a hunter?”
“Not yet.”
“Huh. Must be low ranked then.”
“It’s not very high.”
In terms of close combat weapons, I have the highest rank in the world, but my main role is a farmer.
I could choose to be an SSS+ hunter or an F-rank hunter, but right now I need to be an F-rank farmer.
“What, E-rank? D-rank? Don’t tell me F-rank?”
“My main is F-rank… but…”
“I knew it. Our Soo-jung isn’t the type to make such requests, but she was crying and begging. ‘Please let my brother enter the dungeon just once.'”
“Really? That wasn’t necessary…”
“Hey now, don’t be too embarrassed about getting help from your little sister. It wasn’t her, it was me. I helped because I was thinking of Soo-jung. Just think of it as getting help from me.”
As he put his hand on my shoulder and patted it, I pushed his arm away and asked:
“But I heard the guild master made the spot, so I’m confused why you keep saying you made it. Are you the guild master?”
His expression soured when I asked with a genuinely confused look.
He probably caught the implied meaning: “If you’re not the guild master, why are you acting like you’re in charge?”
The expressions of the other hunters nearby also turned grim.
“You’re not, right?”
“What are you doing? I’m sorry, Team Leader. My brother is new to dungeons… You idiot! I told you he’s not the guild master.”
The atmosphere was explosive.
Soo-jung quickly jumped in to stop me.
But I wasn’t sure if she was stopping me or feeding me to the wolves.
The situation was somewhat resolved there, but the problems started afterward.
“Count the monsters here!”
The old man who had always been sticking his sweaty body in front of Soo-jung began to noticeably drift away during battles, and eventually started deliberately positioning Soo-jung to be exposed to monsters.
Despite his obviously intentional behavior, Soo-jung bit her lip but didn’t say anything.
She knew that raising an issue would only put her in a disadvantageous position.
Standing next to Soo-jung, I pretended to be clueless and asked:
“Aren’t monsters supposed to stay away from mages?”
My question was met with sneering grins, as if they had been waiting for it.
“You can protect her, can’t you? You’re carrying a sword, so you must be a dealer. You can handle one or two monsters, right?”
“What? I can take them down?”
“Of course. Isn’t that why you came to the dungeon? A man with a dick shouldn’t be here just to rub against his sister’s backside.”
It was a direct provocation.
I pretended to be slightly annoyed, stayed silent for a moment, then asked:
“If I kill them… will I get a share of the loot?”
“What? A share? Hahaha!”
The fact that they could still pick fights while battling showed these hunters were definitely skilled.
Their ranks were high, and they could afford to joke or provoke others in a C- dungeon.
That might be why they fell for my amateurish provocation so easily.
Because they saw me as worthless.
Their provocations weren’t just talk; they really thought that way.
“Did you say ‘share’? I’ll give you one. If you kill just 10 monsters—no, even one—I’ll give you my share for today! Idiot. You think you own the world because you tagged along to a dungeon? Go ahead, try it.”
Getting angry means losing.
Until now, I never understood this saying.
If I had to describe my personality, it would probably be similar to this old man’s.
Twisted, idiotic, antisocial, self-centered.
But having SSS+ abilities gave me a certain composure despite my flawed personality, allowing me to avoid becoming an idiot like him.
“Why the insults… Since you offered to share, I’ll take a small portion.”
I wasn’t trying to mock him. The reason I hadn’t done anything in the dungeon and just followed Soo-jung and the tank was because I had no reason to do anything.
I originally came to see how real dungeons differed from Farming World’s dungeons.
Now that I was here, I didn’t notice many differences.
If I had to point out a difference, Farming World’s dungeons exist in an open world as field-type dungeons, making them feel more naturally integrated into the map, while Earth’s dungeons feel like they’ve been constructed using blocks from specific dungeon biomes.
The monsters and resources obtained were similar.
Just that.
I wasn’t being paid to be here, and I wouldn’t get a share for stepping up, so there was no reason to bother killing monsters—I was just observing.
But if they’re offering to share, that changes things.
Actually, even if they did share, I wouldn’t want to bother with pocket change from the dungeon when I’m about to receive 50 million won, but seeing my sister in trouble made the brother in me want to show off a little.
I drew the sewer sword I had brought for style, and the hunters, including the old man, started laughing.
“Look at him with his sword.”
“An F-rank with a sword?”
“Oh, I’m so scared. Do you know these monsters have at least 10 defense…”
Before their laughter ended, I slashed through the five monsters in front of me in one go.
They were monkey-type monsters with B- health and twice the size of humans, but even I didn’t expect to kill them in one hit.
Even with my 1100% attack power as a master of close combat weapons, this was surprising.
While everyone stared with incomprehensible expressions, I looked at my sewer sword with the same confusion.
“This thing is fucking strong…”
That A-rank sword was incredibly powerful.
