Ch. 3 Orc Chieftain

    Chapter 3 – Orc Chieftain

    Ȓėαđ οṅ KαtṚėɑdınɡḈɑϝe

People who play RPGs usually fall into two categories.

The first type studies the game, levels up using the optimal route, reaches the Raid, familiarizes themselves with the strategies, and then runs the Raid.

The second type doesn’t look anything up, just goes with the flow, skips the Raid strategies, and joins a so-called Heading Party Blind Run Party to do the Raid.

I was naturally the first type.

When I played RPG games, I quickly skipped the boring leveling sections, moved on to Raids, coordinated with many people, overcame gimmicks, checked the Party Meter, and enjoyed the satisfaction of high Damage Per Second.

I was going to approach Legacy of Raid the same way I used to play RPGs, but I changed my mind.

The reason I chose the first type was simply because the process up to Max Level wasn’t fun. I thought RPGs were all about Raids, but LEORE was different.

    *Ting!*

    My level went up.

I went from Level 1 to Level 2. A faint light shone all over my body, and the words “[Level Up!]” appeared in front of me.

It’s fun. It’s a very short and basic RPG situation where a Level 1 kills a Level 1 Goblin and becomes a Level 2, but this moment feels so fun.

I think I’ve fallen for this game. This virtual world. I immediately erased my initial plan from my mind. If this is fun now, then other things will definitely be fun too.

I don’t want to spoil that fun by knowing it in advance.

First of all, since I leveled up, I immediately opened the menu.

    ‘There’s no stat system?’

Unlike old games, there was no system where you could get stronger by leveling up and allocating stats. The stats went up automatically.

Anyway, it said that I cleared the tutorial quest, so I pressed the complete button and gained experience.

First, I followed the tutorial quest to learn about LEORE.

Going back to the starting village, buying and drinking potions, buying and drinking potions, buying and equipping basic gear, disassembling it, selling it, etc. The tutorial kindly taught me about the basic systems.

Completely immersed in LEORE, a virtual world game that felt like reality, I quickly finished the tutorial quest.

After completing all the quests, I reached Level 5, and the last tutorial quest was about the combat system.

Basically, it had a slightly different system than PC RPGs.

In the RPGs I’ve played so far, I attacked enemies or evaded or defended using skills or normal attacks, but LEORE was like a mixed martial art.

Both players and monsters can attack, defend, parry, and evade, and the damage varies for each part. What’s even scarier is that even if the stats are the same, the performance varies depending on the player’s skill.

Of course, even in PC RPGs, the damage varies depending on the player’s fingers even if the specs are the same, but once you reach a certain level, you can produce the same DPS. However, in LEORE, the difference is said to be very severe.

‘But it’s amazing that they even tell you this in the tutorial.’

If it were me in the past, I would have just pressed the all skip button, but basically, there was no skip button in LEORE.

The most surprising part after the combat tutorial was the job system. This game surprisingly has jobs, but you can change jobs.

It’s a system where the job automatically changes when you change weapons. In other words, if I’m holding a straight sword now, I’ll be a Swordsman, and if I’m holding a staff, I’ll be a Magician.

In other words, there are no penalties for changing jobs.

    ‘Amazing.’

After completing all the tutorials, I received a message to now explore this world.

First, I sat down anywhere and opened the menu. I was so excited about the virtual world game that I opened the options window, which I hadn’t checked yet.

The first thing you should check when playing any game is the options.

    ‘There are… almost no options?’

Usually, the options window of a game should have various settings like graphics, sound, and hotkeys, but LEORE only had one thing.

It was the Combat Assistance option.

After reading the explanation, it was a function that compensated for movement for people who were not familiar with combat.

I think that strange feeling I felt when I first caught the Goblin was the Combat Assistance option.

I immediately turned off the Combat Assistance option. It’s more fun without this.

After finishing preparing to enjoy the game again, I immediately ran to the hunting grounds, while managing my stamina, of course.

While cutting off the heads of Goblins that I was now used to catching, I wandered around and found a monster that was different in size from the Goblins.

    “Wow. Is that an Orc?”

A monster that looked exactly like the Orcs I’d seen in various media.

    LV 15: Orc Chieftain

Unlike the Goblins, the name of this Orc Chieftain was in red letters.

Moreover, there was a large red circle around the Orc Chieftain. As I got closer to the circle.

    *Ting.*

    [Field Boss]

    Level Restricted Area.

Field Boss. So that’s why it was in red letters? Since it was a virtual reality game where it didn’t matter if I died, I entered the red circle without hesitation.

I don’t think I can catch that Level 15 Field Boss with my current Level 5, but I’m treating it all as experience, so I ran straight to the Orc Chieftain.

Unlike the Goblins, the Orc Chieftain is holding a large axe. It looks like I’ll die if I get hit even once.

    “Woooaaaaah!!!”

A thick roar echoed loudly, and the Orc Chieftain found me. He swung the giant axe in his right hand at me as I ran towards him.

The strange sensation that had always dominated my body when I was catching Goblins had completely disappeared.

In order to block the descending axe that seemed like it would crush my head with my sword, I raised my right hand solely with my will.

The giant axe and the beginner weapon, the onehanded sword, clashed.

    *Kaang!!!*

I felt a vibration throughout my entire body, and with a cheerful sound, I was knocked back greatly.

    “Ugh…!”

It was hard to move my body due to the more severe vibration than I thought. Judging from the impact I saw and the sound I heard, it seemed like I succeeded in parrying, but was I pushed back because the level difference was so great?

The good thing is that my Hit Points didn’t decrease much.

As I was running to attack the Orc Chieftain again, I realized something was wrong.

The information in front of me started flooding into my head like a tsunami. The Orc Chieftain’s attack trajectory was drawn in my head.

This time, I chose to evade instead of parrying.

The Orc Chieftain’s axe barely passed me.

    “Heeut!”

With a young girl’s shout, I stretched out my right arm and strongly slashed the Orc Chieftain’s empty left waist.

    *Swish!*

    10!

A heavy hitting sound, the feeling of hitting in my hand, and the damage number appearing in the area I attacked.

Fortunately, the damage wasn’t zero just because there was a level difference.

    ‘Oops!’

I wasted time worrying about whether the damage was being dealt or not. With the vast amount of information I felt on my right, I immediately twisted my body and used my sword to fend off the axe that was rushing to kill me.

    *Kaang!!!*

I was pushed to the side again with the parrying impact and sound that echoed once again.

    “Keuh…!”

The vibration in my body rang loudly due to the forced parrying. The problem was that the Orc Chieftain’s attack was coming in a situation where I still couldn’t move.

In order to release the afterdelay set by the game even 0.1 seconds faster, I gave it my all, and maybe that’s why I was able to evade the Orc Chieftain’s axe this time as well.

    *Whoosh!*

The sound of cutting through the air with murderous intent.

    That’s how the backandforth began.

As time passed, I became more familiar with Arang’s body.

What is Physical Skill in a virtual reality game?

Physical Skill in reality means making a judgment and accurately controlling it with the fingers that hold the keyboard and mouse.

Then what about a virtual world game?

It’s the ability to handle the entire body, not just the hands, that is, Physical Skill related to combat sense.

The funny thing is that Arang’s Physical Skill is very, very excellent even though she is a weak girl without arms and legs.

    *Kaang!*

A clean parry. I was knocked back with a lighter sound than before. This time there was no afterdelay, because I fended off the Orc Chieftain’s axe before it received its full power.

All the information unfolding in front of me entered my head without difficulty, and the time it took to implement it with my body was almost zero.

My body acts without delay to what I think.

    *Swish!*

    5!

The onehanded sword cleanly passed the Orc Chieftain’s ankle.

The damage was weak, but the Orc Chieftain knelt down. A perfect groggy state.

Thinking I had seized the victory, I was about to move to stab the sword into the neck, which is the weakness of all living things. The Orc Chieftain’s eyes emitted a red light.

    “Kuaaawooooaaaah!!!”

With a huge roar that shook the ground, the giant axe in his right hand rushed horizontally.

An attack that far surpassed the attacks up to now.

    “Heut!”

Having already anticipated the attack with the movement of the Orc Chieftain’s right shoulder, I bent my small knees and tilted my face back with a cute shout.

The giant axe passed by grazing my hair, and as fast and strong as the attack was, the Orc Chieftain’s afterdelay was very long.

Since I simply made an evasion motion, I had almost no afterdelay, so I attacked the Orc Chieftain’s right arm in front of me with a onehanded sword, then immediately took a stance and attacked the left chest where the heart was.

Then, jumping up, I stabbed the onehanded sword into the Orc Chieftain’s neck with the strongest force without thinking about the afterdelay.

    *Thwack!*

I finished with the onehanded sword that I had stabbed in last.

    *Swish!*

Unlike the Goblins, a colorful effect and a huge amount of particles that obscured my vision burst out.
