Ch.292[Chapter 292] City of Disaster
by fnovelpia
“Well, I mean, it’s not like I was hoping for rain tomorrow because of the pressure or anything…”
Don Castello began to stammer as if something in Sir Dominic’s gaze had struck a nerve.
However, Sir Dominic had no interest in hearing Don Castello’s excuses about what wish he had made.
Instead, Sir Dominic turned his attention to what Don Castello had just said.
“By the way, didn’t you just say that all natural disasters are heading this way?”
“Oh, yes. It’s quite fascinating.”
“…How do you know that, Don Castello?”
“Well, GachaLand has a weather system.”
Don Castello said as he opened a weather forecast app.
“As you can see, they’re all arriving at our amusement park almost simultaneously. Isn’t that interesting?”
“Then why are you here?”
Sir Dominic looked strangely at Don Castello, who seemed completely at ease despite the impending disasters.
“You’ll be caught in the disasters too.”
“Actually, there are two reasons.”
Don Castello said, his face reddening slightly as if embarrassed.
“First, I believe in this amusement park’s defense system, and second…”
Don Castello paused briefly before stating his second reason.
“Well, one of my childhood goals was to experience a natural disaster. I thought this was a perfect opportunity…”
Sir Dominic stared at Don Castello as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
It was the most emotional and passionate expression Sir Dominic had ever worn.
Well, except when fighting demons…
“Anyway, which one should I experience first? Hurricane? Tsunami? That mecha dinosaur spewing fire over there?”
No, including when fighting demons.
Sir Dominic was about to scold this naive fool who completely failed to understand the current situation, but upon reflection, he realized the situation wasn’t so bad.
The amusement park was located near the city center.
This meant that by the time all the disasters reached the amusement park, the city would be devastated.
And a devastated city would require significant funds for reconstruction. That’s what Sir Dominic thought.
As soon as this thought occurred to him, Sir Dominic formulated another plan.
Click. The recording started on Sir Dominic’s phone.
“Don Castello. Who is in charge of this place?”
“Huh? That would be me. Why?”
“No, I mean not the nominal head, but who’s actually in charge?”
“…That would be you.”
After thinking for a moment, Don Castello pointed at Sir Dominic.
Considering the amount Sir Dominic had invested in this amusement park, his influence exceeded that of Don Castello, the actual president.
Click. The recording ended.
Perfect.
Sir Dominic had created a noose to bind himself, ensuring he couldn’t escape responsibility in this situation.
…That sounded strange, but it was the reality.
Sir Dominic thought to himself.
When this situation was over, Tycoon City would surely look for a scapegoat to take responsibility for this disaster.
At that point, Sir Dominic would step forward and declare that everything started at the amusement park.
Once everyone’s attention was focused, Sir Dominic would present the recording evidence that he was the real power behind the amusement park, placing all responsibility on himself.
Sir Dominic would take all the blame, sell his farm to give back to society, and return to GachaLand.
It was a perfect plan.
As Sir Dominic was feeling satisfied with his self-made plan, he suddenly recalled what Don Castello had said earlier.
“By the way, Don Castello. What you mentioned earlier.”
“Huh? What did I say?”
“About the defense system.”
Sir Dominic was concerned about the mention of a defense system.
“Oh, are you worried we won’t make it in time? Don’t worry. I’ll do my best to ensure the defense system is activated before those disasters arrive.”
Don Castello said with unnecessary enthusiasm.
“The reason I’m in the control room is to complete and inspect the defense system. There are some parts that require my final approval.”
Don Castello smiled broadly as he showed the blueprint in his hand.
“Once the defense system is complete, we’ll have a land of happiness that can withstand any invasion, just like GachaWorld in GachaLand. Then we won’t have to worry about disasters like these…?”
Don Castello was proudly explaining the defense system, which was the core of the amusement park.
As Don Castello said, this magnificent system, modeled after GachaWorld’s defense system, would immediately free the amusement park from all dangers and threats once activated.
However, Don Castello’s boasting didn’t last long.
“S-Sir Dominic… why…?”
Don Castello grabbed the back of his neck and collapsed.
Sir Dominic had moved behind Don Castello and swung his shield at the back of his head.
Caught by surprise, Don Castello was instantly in critical condition.
Don Castello turned his head with a creaking motion, wearing an expression of disbelief.
And just before losing consciousness, he barely managed to see Sir Dominic’s face.
…Sir Dominic was looking down at the falling Don Castello with cold eyes.
…
“This won’t do. The moment the defense system is completed, the value of this amusement park will obviously increase.”
Sir Dominic dispassionately observed Don Castello, who had collapsed ungracefully like an overturned frog.
Sir Dominic was currently trying his best to ruin this amusement park, and it was clear that all his efforts would be in vain the moment Don Castello completed the defense system.
But Sir Dominic soon seemed to come to his senses, wearing a blank expression before dropping his equipment with a look of dismay.
“White Raven have mercy. I… I’ve committed a sin.”
Sir Dominic stared at the crime scene before him.
Momentarily obsessed with the thought of ruining the amusement park, he had attacked and knocked out Don Castello.
This was completely contrary to Sir Dominic’s concept of chivalry—something only highway robbers would do—and greatly tarnished Sir Dominic’s honor.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…”
But what’s done was done.
Sir Dominic apologized to the completely unconscious Don Castello as he moved him onto a sofa.
Thinking it would at least be better than the hard floor, Sir Dominic laid Don Castello on the sofa and then left the place, as if trying to escape his guilt.
…Outside, raindrops were falling.
The wind was blowing so strongly that the raindrops were falling almost diagonally, and beyond them, instead of thunder, came the sound of a mecha dinosaur breathing fire.
Sir Dominic gazed steadily at the mecha dinosaur and unconsciously raised his sword and shield, but then lowered his weapons again.
Normally, he would have fought to protect the amusement park, but now the situation required the amusement park to fail.
Sir Dominic chose to turn a blind eye to the disasters rather than running around trying to stop them.
Of course, this didn’t mean Sir Dominic was a coward who wouldn’t fight.
Sir Dominic was currently fighting something else.
The conflict within his heart.
“…I know this isn’t right, but just this once, I’ll think with a businessman’s mindset. I’m sorry.”
Sir Dominic uttered words that would never reach Don Castello inside the building.
Sir Dominic ignored his heart’s cry to fight the challenges before him and instead followed the whispers of reason that served only himself.
This was a clash between Sir Dominic’s chivalry and cold calculation, a collision between a warrior’s recklessness and cool reason, and the result of a compromise between his endless competitive spirit and reality.
So, was Sir Dominic’s choice the right one?
Well, that was something Sir Dominic himself couldn’t know.
But there was one thing Sir Dominic was certain of.
At least the most visible mecha dinosaur had already destroyed and burned all the buildings and was now approaching the amusement park.
“■■■■■■■■■-!!!!”
Sir Dominic heard the mecha dinosaur’s roar.
After letting out one loud roar, the mecha dinosaur now looked at its final target, the amusement park, and began to charge toward it with its massive legs.
Sir Dominic closed his eyes briefly at the sight.
Although Sir Dominic himself had decided to lead this amusement park to destruction, thinking about it and actually experiencing it were completely different matters.
If Sir Dominic had been the only one involved, he wouldn’t have felt so conflicted.
But this amusement park involved Don Castello, Sir Dominic, and Mayer, and having to ruin such a place by his own decision… it was not something that sat easily on his conscience.
“White Raven, forgive me.”
Sir Dominic raised his hand to cover his eyes and prayed to the god he believed in.
Just to turn his eyes away from this guilt and sin for a moment.
So that he could be… ruthless for just a moment.
Of course, the world was cruel, as expected.
Sir Dominic’s wish could not be granted.
“■■■■■-?!!”
Sir Dominic’s eyes flew open at the sound of the mecha dinosaur’s scream.
The mecha dinosaur had succeeded in entering the amusement park but was unable to damage it.
Its movements were being blocked by another dinosaur that had suddenly appeared.
Sir Dominic realized something was going wrong as he watched the mecha dinosaur captured by this other dinosaur that had appeared out of nowhere.
“Sir Dominic!”
And his suspicion was confirmed when he saw the goblin on top of the dinosaur.
That goblin was none other than Konga the Goblin King, the king of the jungle and a raid boss.
“Sir Dominic, I heard you do business! That fake dinosaur, it interferes with Sir Dominic’s business! I cannot forgive!”
“…That’s not it.”
“Sir Dominic, don’t worry! I help! Let’s go, Fortissimo Tempesto!”
“That’s not what I meant!”
Sir Dominic shouted angrily as he watched the Tyrannosaurus rhythmically fighting the mecha dinosaur while Konga beat his djembe, but Konga seemed too busy fighting to notice Sir Dominic’s reaction.
Sir Dominic thought once more.
Something was going terribly wrong.
