Ch.289[Chapter 289] Schemes Looming Over Tycoon City
by fnovelpia
Sir Dominic poured all his surplus funds, except for money needed for essential expenses, into Don Castello of Greed’s amusement park.
His absurdly large capital solved everything.
When materials were scarce, he bought them with Gacha Stones, and when he couldn’t spare time for construction, he purchased instant completion rights to finish buildings immediately.
Of course, buying materials with Gacha Stones wasn’t very efficient, and instant completion rights cost about three times more than normal construction costs, but Sir Dominic didn’t care and continuously poured money into the amusement park.
Profitability? Future prospects?
None of that mattered.
Sir Dominic was thinking of only one thing.
Simply throwing away everything he had now and returning to the peaceful daily life of Gacha World.
To become Sir Dominic the knight of Gacha Land, not the CEO of Tycoon City.
To do that, he needed to take measures to ensure he would never have lingering attachments to Tycoon City, and Sir Dominic chose… to fail miserably as his measure.
That’s why Sir Dominic, with his minus touch that ruined every business he touched, was collaborating with Don Castello of Greed and pouring everything he had into this venture.
Sir Dominic carefully watched a dump truck filled with cash heading to the amusement park construction site, then turned his head to look at the farm building he owned.
The farm building had now surpassed 300 floors, but perhaps due to excessive spending elsewhere, its growth rate had noticeably slowed.
“If there are no more variables, everything should return to its rightful place.”
Sir Dominic sat on a bench in front of the platinum-gleaming farm building’s plaza, staring blankly at the fountain spraying clear water.
For quite some time, just staring blankly.
How much time had passed?
Sir Dominic suddenly realized there were hardly any people near this plaza.
Checking his wristwatch, Sir Dominic realized lunch hour had already ended, and the reason the plaza was empty was because everyone had returned to their workplaces to work diligently.
No one was leisurely spacing out outside like Sir Dominic.
“…Perhaps I should go in now too.”
Sir Dominic muttered as he stood up.
In truth, Pedro had already completed all of Sir Dominic’s tasks, but somehow he felt self-conscious.
He looked more like a company employee… nothing like one would imagine the brave knight Sir Dominic of Feralant to be.
Perhaps knowing this fact, Sir Dominic wanted to abandon this business as quickly as possible and return to Gacha Land.
While Sir Dominic was lost in these thoughts, making his mind even more complicated.
“Excuse me. Are you Sir Dominic?”
A middle-aged man with deep eyes appeared before Sir Dominic.
…
In the in-house café on the first floor of Sir Dominic’s farm.
Sir Dominic ordered a caramel macchiato, while Mayer ordered an iced americano as they sat down.
After silently drinking their coffee for a moment.
Mayer was the first to break the awkward silence.
“Let me introduce myself first. I am Mayer, the mayor of this Tycoon City.”
“I am Sir Dominic of Feralant.”
Mayer, who introduced himself as the mayor of Tycoon City, extended his hand to Sir Dominic for a handshake.
Sir Dominic took his hand and stared intently at the middle-aged man before him.
Sir Dominic knew Mayer well.
The mayor of Tycoon City and the head of the Mayer Group, which was considered capable of challenging the formidable Black Company.
Though still firmly in the position of second-place group, the reputation of the Mayer Group was not to be ignored.
“I wonder why such a distinguished person has come looking for me.”
“Indeed. I apologize for meeting you so suddenly like this.”
Mayer addressed Sir Dominic in an extremely businesslike and political manner.
And having apparently done quite some research on Sir Dominic, he got straight to the point without any flowery language.
“I heard you’ve invested in the amusement park.”
“…That’s right.”
Sir Dominic nodded.
If one were to calculate the money Sir Dominic had poured into the amusement park, about 60% of the shares would be his.
“Actually, I’m the same. I’m also providing capital and information for the amusement park construction.”
“You too?”
Sir Dominic looked at Mayer with surprised eyes.
What on earth was Mayer thinking, investing in an amusement park business that was clearly going to fail?
Could it be that Mayer, like Sir Dominic, was trying to retire from corporate management?
Sir Dominic thought of all sorts of possibilities but couldn’t come up with anything convincing.
“Seeing your surprise, it seems I’ve made a good investment.”
“No, that’s—”
“Don’t try to deceive me. Sir Dominic is one of the highest earners in this Tycoon City. For someone like that to secretly invest? This was clearly based on the judgment that there would be profit.”
“No, that’s not—”
“It’s all been exposed, Sir Dominic. You might be able to fool others, but you can’t fool my, Mayer’s, discernment.”
Sir Dominic felt frustrated listening to Mayer’s words.
If this had been a battlefield, Sir Dominic might have thrown a punch, telling him to come to his senses.
But this was Tycoon City. A city where nothing could be achieved through such violence.
Sir Dominic was at a loss for words at Mayer’s statement.
Mayer’s words sounded plausible, but they had nothing to do with Sir Dominic’s true intentions.
However, seeing Sir Dominic’s flustered appearance, Mayer seemed to think he had reached the correct conclusion and seized the initiative, as he began to speak condescendingly to Sir Dominic with an arrogant expression.
“So, Sir Dominic, I want to make you a proposal.”
The middle-aged man with deep eyes brushed back his hair and spoke quietly to Sir Dominic.
“I heard you received shares for your investment. About… 35%, right?”
Sir Dominic inadvertently nodded.
Mayer’s prediction was almost accurate.
In truth, with the money Sir Dominic had invested, he could have bought 70% of the amusement park, but Don Castello of Greed insisted on taking 51% for operational control, claiming he needed the majority, leaving Sir Dominic with no choice.
“I have 14% of the shares, excluding what you and Don Castello have.”
Sir Dominic was surprised at those words.
How could Mayer have shares?
“Don Castello is quite… an interesting person. He gave me these shares as payment for leasing my land.”
“Hmm.”
At Mayer’s words, Sir Dominic suddenly recalled articles he had seen in newspapers.
‘Mayor Mayer’s Real Estate Legend!’
‘Mayer, Tycoon City’s #1 in Real Estate!’
‘Mayor Mayer’s Excessive Line Monopoly. Is This Acceptable?’
Recalling those articles, Sir Dominic remembered that Mayor Mayer was a land baron.
Though he didn’t know the details, it was highly likely that those shares were indeed received in exchange for leasing land.
Mayer fiddled with his glass of iced americano for a moment, then said with a relaxed expression:
“What do you think would happen if I withdrew my land?”
Sir Dominic looked at Mayer.
What on earth was he talking about?
“You look like you don’t understand what I’m saying.”
Mayer smirked as if he had just declared checkmate.
“It’s exactly as I said. What do you think would happen if I sabotaged your achievements?”
Sir Dominic thought about Mayer’s words for a moment.
Mayer withdrawing his land.
Making the amusement park an illegal construction.
…Not bad.
Sir Dominic thought Mayer’s proposal wasn’t bad at all.
For Sir Dominic, who was investing with all his might intending to fail anyway, being unable to recover his investment was actually good news.
Though inwardly pleased, Sir Dominic maintained his composure as he looked at Mayer.
“I see.”
Sir Dominic said with a very calm face.
“Impressive. So this is what it means to be the fastest-growing executive in Tycoon City.”
Seeing Sir Dominic’s serene face as if he had achieved some enlightenment, Mayer clicked his tongue and praised Sir Dominic’s courage.
“With such resolve, you won’t be shaken no matter what I say.”
Mayer said as he took a sip of his iced americano.
And crunching on an ice cube, he continued.
“Alright. Let’s not mention the land issue anymore. Actually, I’m looking forward to the amusement park too.”
Mayer felt great admiration for Sir Dominic.
Just from the courage he had shown moments ago, he had sufficient qualities to become a great executive.
He was different from the mediocre people who acted like amateurs.
With such admiration, Mayer decided to approach Sir Dominic honestly.
With this type, it becomes troublesome if you get caught beating around the bush.
“Would you be interested in buying my shares?”
Sir Dominic looked at Mayer with an expression that clearly asked what on earth he was talking about.
Mayer’s proposal was something Sir Dominic had not anticipated at all.
