Ch. 27 I Will Believe in You as the Hero (2)
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 27 – I Will Believe in You as the Hero (2)
Selena’s declaration was like a bolt of lightning. Her serious gaze towards me was not playful or deceitful. My mind was in chaos. Her words sounded like a joke, but the weight of the surrounding air told me it was the truth.
“Wait.” I interrupted her, waving both hands. “Selena, do you know what you’re saying? That I’m a hero? This… this is just a joke, right?”
Claire also looked at her with a bewildered expression, adding, “Right, Eli? A hero? This is too strange!”
Ignoring Claire, Selena calmly nodded. “Ms. Elysia already meets the conditions. She possesses memories that can resist the control of higher beings, and she has a stronger will than anyone else. Furthermore…”
Edric smiled, picking up where she left off. “Furthermore, she has the power to move people’s hearts more than anyone else here. Faith isn’t simply formed through coercion. And the people gathered here… seem quite ready to believe in you.” (T/N: Huh, did I miss another page???)
I looked around. The villagers were still looking at me with wary eyes, but a faint glimmer of expectation could also be seen in their eyes. Perhaps, they were already tired of living under the oppression of higher beings.
“But.” I sighed deeply and asked, “Even so, it doesn’t make sense for me to suddenly become a ‘hero.’ Faith and all that, if it were that simple, countless people would already be heroes.”
Selena shook her head with a smile. “No. Faith doesn’t simply stem from longing. It means people must truly choose you. And…” she stared intently at me and added, “You must first believe in yourself.”
Believe in myself? I looked down at my hands. Ordinary hands. My hands were no different than before I came to this other world. Me, a hero? It was nonsense.
But Selena’s words wouldn’t leave my mind. I slowly raised my head.
“Okay.” I said calmly. “Then I’ll prove it.”
Claire stared at me with a surprised look. “Eli, seriously? Do you know what you’re saying?”
“I do.” I said firmly. “This is our only choice. I don’t want to end up as a mere pawn of the higher beings. If I can truly become a hero… I will prove it.”
Selena nodded and said, “Good. Then, show these villagers your faith. Make them truly believe in you.”
I listened to her and slowly walked to the center of the square. The villagers still retreated warily, but their gaze followed me. I looked directly into their eyes and spoke.
“Everyone.” I shouted. “I didn’t come to this village to harm you. I came to find the truth and change this world. And I promise you, if you believe in me, I will fight to save this world.” (T/N: What’s this? A mayor election now?)
The people murmured, and doubt still lingered in their eyes. But one of them quietly stepped forward. A small, young girl.
“Really?” the girl said in a trembling voice. “Can you really save us?”
I knelt down, looking into her eyes. “Yes. I will do everything I can.”
At that moment, the girl’s expression changed. She slowly nodded and said, “Then… I’ll believe you.”
And starting with her, one by one, people nodded towards me. A faint hope shone in their eyes. And finally, the entire square fell silent.
Edric quietly said from behind, “Now it begins.”
At that moment, my body was enveloped in light. An intense light surrounded me, vibrating the air. I flinched in surprise, but the light grew even stronger.
“This…!” Selena exclaimed in surprise.
Edric smiled and said, “This is the moment a hero is born.”
And when the light disappeared, I felt that something had changed. My body felt lighter than before, and in my hand was a sword I had never seen before. The sword emitted a soft glow, exuding a sacred aura in the air.
“This…!” I muttered in a trembling voice. “I… am a hero?”
Selena smiled and said, “Congratulations, Ms. Elysia. You are now the hero who will change this world.”
.
.
.
I felt two disparate forces intertwining within my body. Sacred energy, and the hero’s power that had just been bestowed upon me. They possessed different natures, but within my body, they were creating a powerful vortex, striving to find balance.
“What… is this?” I whispered, confused. My heart beat rapidly, and the energy flowing through my body became increasingly intense. I felt suffocated by the pressure, as if something was about to burst forth.
“Eli!” Claire rushed to my side and shouted. “Are you okay? What’s happening?”
As if I hadn’t heard her, I focused on the power surging within me. The sacred energy was a familiar feeling. The calm, warm light energy I had felt ever since I became a saintess. But the hero’s power was different. It was hot. It was an intense heat, like it would burn my entire body, threatening to engulf me.
“The holy energy and the hero’s power are clashing.” Selena said urgently. “These two powers inherently have incompatible attributes. But… if Ms. Elysia can handle it, she will become an unprecedented being in this world.”
“An unprecedented being?” Claire cried. “That she’ll become in such a dangerous state?”
Edric added in a calm voice, “It’s dangerous, but she will gain incredibly powerful strength. The moment the holy aura and the hero’s power harmonize, she may become the only key to escaping the control of higher beings.”
I took a deep breath and clenched and unclenched my fists. The two energies were still clashing, but at the same time, I felt a subtle energy trying to harmonize without suppressing each other. It was as if a new balance was being created within me.
“Eli…” Claire said cautiously. “Are you really okay?”
I looked up at her and forced a smile. “I’m okay… for now.”
At that moment, light erupted from my body. The holy energy and the hero’s power swirled around each other like a sphere of light. The light became increasingly intense, completely driving away the darkness that had surrounded me. The villagers shielded their faces, blinded by the light, and Claire and Selena stepped back.
“This…!” Selena exclaimed. “It’s a new kind of power. A combination of holiness and courage… This isn’t the mere power of a hero or a saintess.”
In the light, I raised both hands, feeling the energy. The two powers were no longer clashing. Instead, they enveloped each other, achieving perfect harmony. Within me, the two powers merged and transformed into a new form of energy.
“Can… I handle this?” I asked myself. But instead of fear, I felt a strange sense of relief. This power was mine. And I could control it.
Edric slowly walked over and said, “Ms. Elysia, you have been reborn as a new being in this world. One who possesses both holy energy and the power of a hero. A hero this world has never experienced.”
I slowly nodded and looked at the sword in my hand. The sword reflected my power, emitting both a gentle light and a burning aura.
“Okay.” I muttered softly. “With this power, I will find a way to overthrow the higher beings. And… I will definitely… save this world.”
.
.
.
I looked at the sword in my hand. The silver-shining sword overflowed with both the warm holiness and the hot courage. That energy was piercing my heart and filling my entire body. This was not merely power. It was a responsibility given to me, a mission.
“Eli…” Claire approached me. Confusion and worry were mixed in her eyes. “Do you know what you have to do? We’ve come to this point…”
I cut her off and nodded. “I know. I know exactly what I have to do.”
There was no more hesitation in my voice. What I had to do was clear. To free this world from the control of the higher beings, and to create a world where people could live freely. I didn’t know how difficult the process would be, but I would never give up.
“Ms. Elysia.” Selena said in a calm voice. She approached me, smiled, and bowed her head. “You are now true hope. We believe in you. In your choices and their outcome.”
Edric also nodded and said, “You are not simply a hero or a saintess. A being who combines two powers… one who will redefine the balance of this world. You will be the only key to breaking the control of the higher beings.”
Listening to them, I looked around at the people in the square. Their gaze, which had initially been filled with wariness and suspicion, had now changed to hope and expectation. Their faith had created me. And that faith would be my most powerful weapon.
I slowly raised my sword. The light emanating from the sword soared into the sky, completely driving away the darkness that had covered the village. People clasped their hands in admiration, and children smiled, shaking off their fear.
“From now on,” I said loudly, “we will change this world. The oppression of the higher beings will end, and a new era will begin. I will fight alongside you. And I will surely win.”
