Ch.268Avalon Siege Battle. (4)
by fnovelpia
Despite the opinions of veteran players and experts,
Some users in the gallery still couldn’t shake the feeling that Icarus would lose the preliminary battle.
Ironically, the reason was none other than the carrier-based aircraft… the very thing that made Icarus stand out in the gallery in the first place.
No, it was the hundreds of thousands of “interceptors” swarming like bees that were the reason.
Of course, when newbies made such statements, the veteran players who always wanted to educate them were ready to pounce with their frustrated feelings.

Won’t he get shredded by carrier aircraft just like this?
Right??

But other veteran players stopped those who were about to pounce.

“Seeing once is better than hearing a hundred times.”
OK?
It’s annoying to explain everything, so just watch what happens next

-˪[Oh]
-[What does this mean?]
-˪[I think it means Icarus has carriers too, so he can counter them sufficiently?]

The newbies in the gallery couldn’t understand why these veteran players, who normally jumped at any chance to educate them, were now restraining themselves from doing so.
But that didn’t last long.
When the situation unfolded and they finally understood the limitations of “carrier aircraft” and “aircraft carriers” that the veteran players had been pointing out all along,
The newbies experienced quite a culture shock in many ways.
And incidentally, they also learned why Kraken’s teleport system was considered overpowered and limited to just once per day.
And while the newbies’ curiosity was being satisfied…
…or rather, several dozen minutes before that.
How was our Icarus responding?
—
“Commander, fleet and interceptor launches have been confirmed from Avalon!”
“The interceptors are still far away, so tell the mercenary corps to position the battleships and cruisers at the front and open fire.”
“Yes, sir!”
Even though our forces were nearly twice as large,
There was no need to waste fleet power by engaging in close combat as the enemy wanted.
So after ordering the formation of battle lines with all battleships and cruisers, led by the Kraken—which was an aircraft carrier in name but had battleship-level firepower:
“All fleet, commence firing!”
-“It’s the Commander’s order, all fleet commence firing!”
-“Kyahaha, it’s been a while since our last battle!”
The fleet, consisting of nearly 40 battleships and cruisers numbering in the triple digits, began pouring massive particle beam volleys at the approaching guard fleet.
Of course, there weren’t just particle beams, but also large and beautiful railgun shells made of depleted uranium+tungsten+some unknown super alloy.
And there were also things that looked like round jellies, but upon impact released plasma reaching 100 million degrees Celsius for several “seconds,” literally vaporizing armor plating.
Meanwhile, some ships including the Hresvelgr continued launching additional missiles,
The guard fleet with only 24 battleships was bound to be overwhelmed by firepower from extreme range.
Especially Pashtra, who was deployed in a fleet bombardment after a long time, showed quite an impressive performance.
-“Please watch my performance, Commander♡”
-KWAAAAAAAAA!!!!
“Oh.”
The beam fired at full power by Pashtra, who had grown properly through consistent leveling, was so powerful that
It not only engulfed and annihilated the cruiser in front of the battleship,
But also sank the battleship behind it with a single hit and continued flying forward…
-KWAAANG!!
“Ohhh…”
It directly hit the Avalon fortress far behind, showing output that could no longer be classified as mere ship cannon level.
But regardless of such performance,
Logically speaking, for the large and magnificent main guns of battleships and cruisers to accurately target small destroyers or escort ships…
Even with the triple buff from Berial, Marian, and Griyanar, there were limitations.
Unlike the relatively slow light cruisers or the battleships that became primary targets due to their small numbers and were being blown up one after another,
We could see over 30,000 escort ships using destroyers as their flagships, reorganizing into separate squadrons and charging toward our main force.
Of course, their targets were the battleships and cruisers at the front line that were bombarding them, but
Not a chance.
“Have the battleships and cruisers fall back, and send all mercenary light cruisers and smaller ship squadrons to engage.”
“Yes, I’ll relay that right away.”
Since we had more small ships from the beginning, and the enemy had suffered losses from our fleet’s volleys while charging,
When the chaotic battle began in earnest, as expected, our guard fleet friends were at a numerical disadvantage and
Unlike us who received substantial fleet buffs,
They had no fleet buffs whatsoever, so
Whatever happened to their initial momentum? As time passed, they focused only on defense and evasion.
At this point, newbies might wonder where those swarms of interceptors were and what they were doing.
Of course, having reached the endgame(?) nearly 3 years… no, almost 5 years ago,
I knew exactly what those crazily swarming interceptor uncles were doing without having to look.
“Jessica, the interceptors still haven’t arrived at the battlefield?”
“Nope.”
“They obviously launched in a hurry because they’d be sitting ducks if they stayed in the hangar, but that was a stupid move.”
Saying that, I sat in the command seat at the base, shaking my head as I watched the interceptors still flying in from far away on the huge screen.
“Tiamat.”
-“Yes, Commander?”
“It’s your turn now, launch all aircraft from every carrier.”
-“Yes, I’ll launch them right away!”
—
And back to the gallery perspective,
The newbies were finally realizing why the veteran players had told them not to use carriers from the beginning.

Title: Why are carrier aircraft so slow?

I don’t think carrier aircraft were this slow in the last event or in Icarus’s previous battle videos?
Are these interceptors just really slow? Why are they like this?

Title: It’s not that interceptors are slow, you’ve been misunderstanding all along

1. In the Ancient Empire event, the battlefield itself was small, but there were tons of indestructible obstacles that made carrier aircraft speed less noticeable
The combat distance was so close that the time it took for aircraft to fly and make contact with enemy fleets was similar to the time it took for ships to crash into other ships
Unlike ships that had to make wide detours around obstacle zones, aircraft could pass right through them, making them seem faster
2. Some people cite Icarus’s battle scenes as examples
Even there, it takes a long time for carrier aircraft to launch and encounter enemy fleets
But how does it actually play out in the game?
[Interceptors still flying toward Icarus’s fleet.gif]
This is how it works
Before carrier aircraft can launch, cross the battlefield, and reach enemy fleets,
Battleship main guns can tear apart your fleet and carriers much faster
There’s no need to talk about battleship accuracy issues
Even with accuracy issues, they’re much faster and more effective than carrier aircraft crawling slowly toward enemy fleets
Comments:
-[I see]
-[After hearing this, I scrapped my carriers]
-[Hmm I get it, I completely understand]

…Of course, whether they truly understood will probably remain a lifelong mystery.
