Ch.254Kidney Equipment (2)

After finishing the equipment delivery to Corin, the next step was naturally with the Wolfblood family.
The equipment had likely already been delivered through Gretel and testing would have been completed long ago, but still, providing personalized care for a mid-tier warrior wouldn’t hurt anything.
Moreover, the Wolfblood family strictly speaking belongs to my family, and the equipment assigned to them reflects a certain level of expertise, so as the person in charge, I needed to receive their feedback.
For these reasons, when I visited the home of Lucius Wolfblood… my father-in-law, what greeted my eyes was the sight of him wrapped in the gifted equipment from head to toe, smiling with satisfaction.
Originally, he was supposed to be set up with equipment suitable for a typical light-armored warrior, but at his request—saying he would just end up being an inferior version of Hanna—the direction was changed to throwing-specialized equipment.
Following his statement that he would ultimately be inferior to Hanna in close combat, and volunteering for mid-to-long range guerrilla warfare and various support duties, his outfit certainly had a distinctly military feel and atmosphere.
His equipment consisted of lightweight armor with angular designs specialized for stealth operations. Armor plates were attached throughout in a military style, with an inner layer made of dyed black mid-tier magical beast leather.
Instead of a helmet, the true piece of equipment was something worn like headgear, which could lower what looked like modern special forces optical equipment—similar to VR gear—that provided various filters when needed.
As a bonus, it included a detachable gas mask-type face covering for protection against toxic substances, and a helmet with integrated communication headband and selective noise-canceling earplugs.
Perhaps he was quite satisfied with the military-style armor and its functions. As he kept turning the equipment’s features on and off while examining it with satisfaction, I carefully approached and spoke to him.
“…Father-in-law?”
“Hmm? …Ah, Lord Alzar.”
“How do you like the equipment?”
“It’s wonderful! I couldn’t have even imagined something like this!”
Perhaps he was pleased with the various magical tools resembling optical sensors on the VR-like goggles. As he kept turning them on and off distractedly, he looked at me and fluttered the cloak he was wearing.
“This cloak, is it made from ‘Invisible Fire Bear’ hide?”
“Yes, it is.”
“I thought so!”
The Invisible Fire Bear—as the name suggests—is a type of mid-tier magical beast with skin imbued with invisibility magic. While its physical abilities are average, it’s considered threatening due to its rare type of invisibility that remains active even during attacks.
The cloak, made from hide purchased from a mid-tier adventurer who had ventured into unexplored territory, had long been completed as stealth equipment with invisibility power thanks to the magic inherently imbued in the material.
It has the modest ability to conceal one’s presence and genuine invisibility that can be toggled on and off. When paired with boots enchanted with odor-eliminating and silence magic, one could move anywhere without being detected.
“Do you like it?”
“Of course! Especially in wolf form!”
Moreover, unlike other equipment, this cloak remains intact even when transformed into a werewolf or wolf form, and can still be activated and operated in that state—a special type of equipment indeed.
Considering that most equipment effects typically disappear when transforming from human form, this kind of feature is certainly beneficial.
As I watched him happily fiddle with it, my father-in-law looked back at me with equal satisfaction and showed me the weapon he had requested.
“Do you like it?”
“Certainly, my lord.”
Since he would use his mid-tier pure-blooded werewolf body as a weapon in close combat anyway, the weapons he requested were all ranged weapons far removed from close combat.
More specifically, throwing weapons.
While throwing weapons were humanity’s first weapons and the human body is specialized for throwing, they have been on a downward trend since the perfect alternative—the bow—emerged. With a bow’s elasticity allowing projectiles to be fired with greater force than muscle power alone, throwing weapons generally fell behind in all aspects except ease of use.
Of course, throwing weapons survived into the modern era with grenades due to their cost-effectiveness and simplicity, but weapons thrown to hit and damage enemies have essentially disappeared.
However, this only applies to a world without superhumans who can wield supernatural powers like magic.
For a mid-tier warrior with superhuman strength, throwing weapons can be highly effective and efficient equipment.
Apart from ammunition and simple throwing aids, there’s no need to carry anything else, and mid-tier strength allows for sniping at distances of hundreds of meters using a javelin.
Of course, even a mid-tier warrior would need to specifically train in throwing techniques to exert such power, but nevertheless, throwing can be an excellent supplementary weapon for mid-tier warriors…
“Oh, I can see why you were so confident!”
“Yes. This javelin is excellent!”
My father-in-law, who has specialized—or at least trained considerably—in throwing, is someone who, in my opinion, could certainly use throwing weapons as his main armament.
He actually mentioned that in the forest, he primarily uses javelins rather than engaging in close combat, and above all, his fighting style is closer to that of a hunter.
Well, that’s why I gifted him two throwing weapons.
First, a throwing spear.
This tough and sturdy short spear, made from “Frost Bone Tree Vines” harvested from the forest, is a piece crafted with Gretel’s full effort. When thrown, it transforms into a stream of purple energy and returns to the hand after about 2-3 seconds.
It flies at literally lightning speed and has the characteristic of ignoring walls, armor, and other obstacles, traveling in a straight line.
Unlike other weapons of this type, its power when thrown is also considerable, potentially killing even a mid-tier warrior in a single strike.
Of course, it makes a tremendous noise like lightning striking during flight, so stealth operations are out of the question, but the value of an energy javelin with a return function is worth sacrificing stealth for.
And if stealth is desired, there’s also a sling—a different type of throwing weapon.
This equipment, commonly referred to as stone-throwing, consists of a leather pouch for ammunition and straps. Its function is to throw small stones or sling bullets after spinning to gain centrifugal force.
This too has been enchanted with magic to correct aim and improve accuracy, but its true value comes from the ability to throw various types of ammunition.
Steel ball bearings designed purely for physical impact. Scatter shots that spread smaller steel balls mid-flight. Explosive rounds containing gunpowder are just the basics.
Fire rounds that burst into flames when activated thanks to magical catalysts. Gas rounds filled with compressed toxic gas made from synthesized plant poisons. High-gravity rounds imbued with weight magic for greater damage.
There are also magic rounds that surround themselves with energy when thrown, damaging everything in a straight line, and ridiculously expensive silent rounds that make absolutely no sound when thrown.
The equipment itself is so good that any stone can be used, and the sling has special magic that naturally surrounds the surface with magical power.
With the addition of a space-expanded pouch designed solely to provide the necessary ammunition, he was looking at it with an extremely pleased expression.
Anyway, having come to check on the situation, I smiled at my father-in-law, who seemed to be in an even better mood than expected, and said:
“Father-in-law, I’ll be taking my leave now.”
“Taking your leave? Ah. Are you going to see Hanna?”
“Yes. She should have arrived by now.”
Momentarily lost in thought about Hanna’s almost fanatical obsession with combat and struggle, I soon rose from my seat, thinking that whatever she might show wouldn’t matter much.
Perhaps, I thought, I might have to engage in a bloody fight with her.
