Chapter Index

    I was planning to relax and take a nap after completing my daily quest when I suddenly received both a call and a chat message at the same time.

    Wondering what was going on, I decided to open both the call and chat window simultaneously to check their contents.

    Surprisingly, they contained the same message:

    -“Ah, Icarus? The Humanity Clan would like to speak with you about something. Would you have some time available?”

    —————————————-

    <‘Humanity Clan Official Chat Administrator’ has initiated a chat with you.>

    -[Sir]

    -[Our clan would like to have a good conversation with you, Icarus]

    -[Do you happen to have time?]

    -[You can respond through either the call or chat, whichever you prefer]

    —————————————-

    ‘What’s this about?’

    It was quite unexpected.

    Surprisingly, the ‘Humanity’ Clan, led by that Antares fellow, was suddenly reaching out to me for a meeting.

    “What is this regarding?”

    -“No need to be too nervous. After all, you’ve placed third three times in this event…”

    -“As a result, you’re essentially considered the representative of the Central District, so we’d like to have a conversation with you as a representative… something like that.”

    “Hmm.”

    Naturally, I don’t have any particular grudge against Humanity.

    Besides, Humanity’s forces now exceed one-fifth of the Pirate Alliance’s strength, making them difficult to mess with carelessly, even with Marian’s protection.

    I accepted Humanity’s proposal and gave them permission to enter our base.

    The problem arose just minutes after granting that permission.

    “Wait a minute… you’re saying a Humanity Clan stealth destroyer collided with our carrier aircraft during Tiamat’s leveling operation?”

    “Yes, and it wasn’t just one aircraft—they crashed into a tight formation of aircraft during maneuver training. We’ve salvaged the destroyer and docked it at our mooring facility.”

    “…Oh.”

    ‘Holy moly.’

    Were they trying to intimidate me with a surprise encounter, even if they weren’t planning a direct attack?

    I have no idea what they were thinking, but they boarded a cutting-edge stealth destroyer undetectable even by graviton radar (expensive), then proceeded without contacting us and flew straight into our carrier aircraft training route, resulting in a bird strike… or rather, an aircraft strike.

    Hearing this, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my neck.

    ==========

    Naturally, this incident didn’t lead to any complaints from the Humanity Clan members.

    What just happened was so obviously their fault that even if it were posted on one of those traffic accident lawyer Youtube channels from my previous life, the reaction would clearly be “well, this is awkward…”

    Although I suddenly became the victim, they had entered without notice and crashed themselves…

    “Well… given the circumstances, it couldn’t be helped, right?”

    -“Let’s just both move past this amicably.”

    “Yes, but what’s broken is broken, so we’ll handle the repairs.”

    -“Then we’ll cover the repair costs for the damaged aircraft.”

    After quickly and cleanly settling the matter, we decided to have a peaceful and pleasant conversation.

    But that didn’t last long.

    After ending the communication with the ship and seeing all their “personnel” disembark…

    “Wait a minute, why are there ten Superhumans?”

    “…Good question.”

    Apart from the accident, I was shocked to see ten Superhumans trailing behind the Humanity representative, who looked quite tired.

    At least three of them appeared to be PVP-specialized Superhumans focused on close combat, which made me wonder if they were using this meeting as bait to take me out.

    But that thought didn’t last long.

    After having a candid and sincere conversation in the base’s reception room with Humanity’s representative—whom I learned was named “Tiara” from their self-introduction—I came to understand their proposal.

    Skipping all the complicated and tedious details, I summarized their proposal as follows:

    “So the conclusion is this? ‘The Humanity Clan wants to form an external mercenary contract with me’?”

    “That’s not incorrect.”

    Of course, in response to our self-drawn conclusion, “Tiara”—who, despite the nickname, was a rather burly, large man—shook his head and objected.

    “That’s not it. We primarily want to establish a friendly relationship with you.”

    “That’s right. Please don’t misinterpret our Commander and clan’s intentions.”

    “M-Maria, what are you making me out to be?”

    Watching the adjutant “Maria” sharply correct him and the Commander Tiara stammer in response, I nodded, sensing sincerity in their behavior.

    ‘This doesn’t sound bad at all.’

    To be honest, it was beyond “not bad”—it was excellent.

    Frankly, this was something of an open secret among those in the know…

    It was widely rumored that the Earth Federation was essentially controlled by the Humanity Clan.

    So if I were to establish friendly relations with the Humanity Clan?

    I would be receiving protection from the “Pirate Alliance” through Marian.

    At the same time, I’d maintain good relations with the “Space Monsters” thanks to Princess Luca, who was enjoying her luxurious life in the Nest of Life.

    And now, by getting along with the Earth Federation, I would become an unprecedented user under the protection of three major factions simultaneously.

    ‘Nice.’

    Of course, while the Pirate Alliance’s protection was known, the secret alliance between the monsters and pirates—and their protection of me—was confidential.

    So I carefully controlled my expression and spoke in a calm manner.

    “A friendly relationship… that doesn’t sound bad at all.”

    “I thought you might feel that way.”

    Seeing my positive response, Tiara—and by extension the Humanity Clan—seemed eager to cement our friendly relations.

    “It’s not much, but…”

    <‘Tiara’ has requested a trade with you!>

    <Tiara (Minerals 100,000, Rare Resources 10,000, Gold 1,000) ⇒ Icarus>

    <Do you accept this trade?>

    —————————————-

    Opening a user trade window, they offered me various resources as well as gold for the auction house as a gift. I nodded in acknowledgment but declined out of courtesy.

    “No, please don’t worry about it.”

    “Please accept it.”

    “Well then…”

    Of course, they knew my refusal was merely a formality.

    Tiara and I naturally completed the trade and agreed to shake hands in a stoic atmosphere.

    <Do you accept this trade?>

    <(Y)/N>

    <Trade accepted. ‘Minerals 100,000, Rare Resources 10,000, Gold 1,000’ will be delivered to Icarus.>

    <Please check your message box.>

    “I hope we can continue to meet on good terms in the future.”

    “Absolutely.”

    “Hahaha.”

    “Hahahaha!”

    ==========

    While our Icarus was having a surprisingly friendly conversation with Humanity’s representative in the golden reception room…

    Among the Superhumans who had tagged along, one user affiliated with the Humanity Clan who had brought the SSS-rank “Mirai” and S-rank “Sherpa” and “August”…

    Or rather, “Indian Machete,” who was actually a spy from the Loki Clan led by Betelgeuse, was dismayed at witnessing Humanity smoothly succeeding in strengthening their forces.

    “Ah, this is bad.”

    If left unchecked, it was obvious that the Humanity Clan—the greatest rival of the Loki Clan—would smoothly enhance their power.

    Indian Machete decided to quickly enter his private 1:1 chat room with the Loki Clan handler to report the situation.
