Ch.244Typewriter (1)
by fnovelpia
The ‘letters’ of this world are similar to English, but the ‘context’ itself is no different from Korean.
The reason I quickly grasped this world’s language is because even though the language is different, the context is the same. I just needed to memorize the language and that was it.
If a typewriter were to be invented, the reason I said work speed would double is because of this. Since the context is the same, I can just type as I imagine and be done with it.
Language problems? Once you get used to it, they become insignificant.
Even in my previous life, I might have fumbled a bit when typing in English rather than Korean, but after adapting, I could use it as naturally as flowing water.
And that perfectly applies to my current situation.
The machine I received from Gartz Balack, which can be called both a typewriter and a copier—Word.
When powered on, if you type, characters are displayed like a hologram in mid-air, and if you have paper, you can print those characters.
It’s an item solely for writing, which only demons specialized in magic and craftsmanship comparable to dwarves can create.
Gartz told me to call this machine whatever I wanted. When I asked why I should name it instead of the creator, he said it was because it was made exclusively for me.
So I simply named it ‘typewriter.’ Though it seems ordinary since I just borrowed the name from my previous life, Gartz was pleased with it.
Although it’s just a simple typewriter, looking at its performance, it’s over-technology that’s far ahead of its time.
It’s something that should only appear in the modern era beyond the industrial age, but despite being combined with magic, its performance was unbelievable.
Thanks to this, I once again realized what potential the magic of this world has, and what results demons can achieve when they set their minds to it.
Especially in my case, the typewriter is like giving me wings. No exaggeration, I can publish one book every two weeks even while keeping up with my studies.
During vacation periods, if I write without rest, I could even release one every ten days. Originally, I was consistently publishing once a month while writing by hand.
Above all, the best part is that I can upgrade its performance through Gartz.
If I say I’d like certain features based on memories from my previous life? Then Gartz immediately returns to Helium and adds those features.
At first, the number keys were placed in strange positions, and the backspace was similar.
After various suggestions, a typewriter very similar to my previous life was born. It’s called a typewriter, but it’s no different from a keyboard.
The only drawback would be the key pressure. It seems to have been set very low considering the fatigue on my fingers, but as a result, I often press the wrong keys.
Still, it’s much better than writing by hand. Wanting a crisp sound like a mechanical keyboard is just being greedy.
Anyway, the typewriter that was born after various improvements has ignited my work speed. Since I had already written half, I used the typewriter for all the remaining content.
Tap-tap-tap- tap-tap-
The distinctive typing noise of the typewriter gradually fills the dormitory. Simultaneously, characters begin to line up before my eyes.
Since this typewriter is scientific only in principle and is mostly made with magic rather than machinery, the noise isn’t very loud.
The key feel is also just enough to give a sense of ‘pressing’ but otherwise flat. It has undergone improvements based on my advice, but being a prototype, it has many shortcomings in various ways.
However, as mentioned earlier, the very existence of a typewriter is over-technology. Especially the fact that magic plays a larger role than machinery also increases the value of the typewriter.
And I am one of the few people who can use this typewriter as well as a professional. It’s like giving wings to a tiger.
Ding-
It hasn’t even been 5 minutes, but I’ve already filled a page. As soon as I heard the notification that the page was full, I immediately inserted manuscript paper into the gap below.
With a whirring sound characteristic of copiers, the paper emerged from the top of the typewriter. I could see the characters filling the manuscript paper with a warm feeling.
The page standard is strictly based on manuscript paper, and if desired, the font size can be reduced.
‘This is really convenient.’
After quickly checking for any typos on the page, I gently placed it on the desk. The desk is already piled high with manuscript papers.
The typewriter is impressive not only for its efficiency but also for its typo checking capabilities.
Typewriters from my previous life had the major drawback of having to discard the paper if a typo occurred, but this typewriter outputs in hologram form, allowing characters to be removed in advance.
There’s no problem even after printing. I don’t know how the copying works, but it can be cleanly erased with a remover.
Of course, it can’t be erased after 5 minutes, but 5 minutes is enough. It’s an item I would consider a lifelong treasure.
As a result, about 5 days after receiving the improved typewriter, whether I was too excited or just thrilled, I completed all 19 volumes.
I didn’t forget to carefully check for typos, and after finishing the verification, I put them in an envelope.
Ah, I didn’t forget to include a handwritten letter before putting them in. I need to explain the situation since half was written by hand and suddenly changed to neat handwriting.
And regardless of anything else, I plan to consistently write letters by hand out of courtesy. This is a kind of sentiment, I suppose.
‘Since it’s come to this, should I try writing volume 20 as well?’
For some reason, I want to write more. I leaned back in my chair, stretched, and looked at the typewriter.
When I wrote by hand, I had to stop due to fatigue, but since I started using the typewriter, I’ve wanted to keep writing.
It doesn’t have the crisp feeling of a keyboard from my previous life, but the sensation, or whatever you call it, is really good.
For the past 5 days, I’ve only been thinking about wanting to use the typewriter quickly. With that thought and my concentration combined, I completed all 19 volumes in just 5 days, filling more than half of the content.
I’ve also planned out the entire plot for volume 20, so I just need to type it out. I blinked my eyes and stretched out both hands.
‘I’ll think about releasing volume 20 before the exhibition.’
There’s nothing urgent to do anyway, and there’s no harm in writing in advance. Rather, it’s beneficial as I can receive more divine power.
Moreover, volume 20 is one of the stories I wanted to write. The reason is that Jin’s father, Beelzebub, who governs gluttony, properly appears.
Also, the demon country, which was briefly mentioned in volume 5, appears. Its name is Pandaeum, and it will be based on the real Helium.
‘Originally, I was going to describe it somewhat depressingly, but…’
From Rain’s punishment case and my visit during winter break, Helium is a place that exudes a strong human scent.
It’s definitely not a gloomy place like a crime city that might exist somewhere, nor is it in a state of chaos. Rather, most people have happy smiles as they move forward into the future.
…The food was a bit off my taste, but that was their culture, so I can fully understand.
‘It feels a bit uncomfortable to drive such a city into chaos, but…’
Volume 20 is a story where Jin and Lilly directly visit Pandaeum and meet with the king. However, the situation in Pandaeum isn’t exactly good.
Due to the schemes of Beelzebub, the demon of gluttony, the number of missing demons has been increasing.
The reason demons are disappearing is very simple. It’s for Beelzebub to increase his power.
Befitting the sin of ‘gluttony,’ Beelzebub has the characteristic of absorbing power, and the process is both simple and horrific.
If he pulls out the opponent’s heart and eats it with his mouth, that power is completely digested and becomes his own. The heart has been the foundation of power since ancient times, so it’s a plausible story.
‘But that’s not the important part.’
In fact, the disappearances happening in Pandaeum are just a smokescreen. Beelzebub is plotting something bigger.
That is to ‘demonize’ all the demons living in Pandaeum.
Kidnapping demons and storing power is also part of the plan. Beelzebub is not a demon who became one like Lilly, but a demon from birth.
Naturally, his dark mana is not pure but very dirty and evil, and he has a terrifying plan to spread it like a plague throughout Pandaeum.
No matter how many generations have passed, and despite receiving help from gods, the origin of demons is demonic. They are always at risk of turning into demons.
Demons become demons only when they experience tragedy like despair or sadness, but as Sacran’s example shows, they also become demons when they absorb sticky darkness.
As soon as the main characters notice this plan, they are reminded of Sacran and immediately move to stop it.
I would have liked to ask Xenon and Mary for help, but the plan has been in motion for a long time.
Beelzebub not only blocks all communication with the outside but also shows meticulousness by making teleportation impossible.
In the end, Jin and Lilly running around to stop it is the main story of volume 20.
‘Wow. I’ve already written this much?’
I stopped briefly for a rest, but the manuscript had already started to pile up. Moreover, my hands weren’t even tired.
Is this the power of machinery? At this rate, it might really be possible to publish one book every two weeks.
I was admiring the drug-like addictive performance of the typewriter when a thought suddenly occurred to me.
Helium went to the trouble of creating such a typewriter for me, shouldn’t I do something for them in return?
By the way, I gave Gartz signed copies. Of all the books published from volume 1 until now.
I still vividly remember how happy he was when he received the signatures. However, this was a gift for Gartz personally, not a gift for Helium.
Then what gift would be good? They invented a typewriter for me, so I should give a suitable reward.
After thinking deeply, I came up with a good idea.
Just like I wrote Kayre’s side story, I should write a Jin and Lilly side story. Until now, it’s only been mentioned, but it hasn’t been detailed why these two developed feelings for each other.
If I wrote about the love story between a human and an elf, there’s no reason not to write about demons. Honestly, they might be secretly disappointed even if they don’t show it.
Of course, there’s just one problem here.
‘Should I release the side story after volume 20? Or release it together?’
At the end of volume 20…
‘I feel like I’ll just get a lot of curses…’
Jin has his heart pierced by Beelzebub while simultaneously learning the secret of his birth.

Due to concerns about potential backlash, I had to set it aside for a moment. I should ask Cecilly first.
So as soon as the next day came, I briefly called Cecilly and asked her. I told her I really liked the typewriter and wanted to repay Helium.
I asked if there was anything else they needed besides my writing, which is what I do best. After thinking for a while, Cecilly…
“There is just one way.”
“What is it?”
Cecilly smiled at my question and answered in her characteristically coquettish voice.
“Stop taking contraceptives when you’re with me starting two months from now.”
“… …”
As soon as I heard those words, I immediately looked up to check her horns.
I don’t know when it happened, but her horns were dyed red except for the tips.
“I’m scheduled to be the next Demon King, so I have an obligation to bear offspring. It’s not a problem if that gets moved up a bit. And it would be Issac’s child, right?”
“…Let’s think about this later.”
“Tch.”
Cecilly was genuinely disappointed.
