Ch.2424. Retrieving the Sword From the River
by fnovelpia
All resources that come from dungeons.
The range of resources collectively called “dungeon resources” is quite extensive.
Originally, anything that doesn’t exist on Earth and only comes from dungeons is called a dungeon resource.
This includes energy resources, wood, stone, grass, herbs, mushrooms, animals, plants, fish, and even water.
People research how to use practically everything if it can be used, and indeed, many diverse resources are currently being used as substitutes for resources we use on Earth.
“Earth is a lower dimension. Resources from higher dimensions are naturally more efficient and valuable than those from lower dimensions. The Rift Dimension is among the dimensions with the highest-tier resources, so naturally, resources from dungeons are likely better than those from Earth in many ways.”
Lulu summarized the answer to my question like this.
So the Earth I live on is a lower dimension, and the Rift Dimension is where various dimensional rifts flow in, but most likely connect to higher dimensions.
Then how do dungeons containing resources from the Rift Dimension appear on Earth?
Apparently, it happens occasionally.
That might be why the test game called Farming World opened on Earth.
What’s important isn’t that, but rather the armor and weapons made from dungeon resources or those that drop as finished products from monsters. Equipment used by hunters is also included in dungeon resources.
And such hard-to-obtain dungeon resources are traded at extremely… extremely high prices.
I know that better than I need to ask Lulu.
Hunters are the most important subjects for harvesting dungeon resources.
If humans can’t hunt the monsters guarding dungeons, they can’t conquer dungeons even with modern weapons.
It’s already difficult to enter dungeons with modern weapons, and monsters themselves are largely immune to modern weapons. Plus, it’s important to harvest dungeon resources intact, which is difficult to do while only targeting monsters with modern weapons.
In the end, hunters have to do it, but hunters are also human.
When fighting monsters while wearing the guise of fragile humans, what guarantees safety is ultimately strong weapons and sturdy armor.
Various resources are used to make armor, but nothing compares to the performance of items that drop as complete “items.”
That’s why hunters with blacksmithing abilities like reinforcement or armor and weapon crafting are highly valued.
Even processing dungeon resources with modern technology to make armor produces sufficient performance, but armor or weapons made through supernatural “abilities” have special properties attached.
There’s a limit to how many weapons and armor a human can wear anyway.
You could layer more by bundling up, but if movement becomes sluggish, it ultimately becomes pointless.
So if you’re going to wear something, better wear something good. Having even one option attached is better, and the only ways to get that are either having a hunter with abilities make it or acquiring an item with abilities attached.
Naturally, the prices of high-grade items with high stats skyrocket.
[Mother’s Touch] is no exception.
Reading the description makes me feel a bit guilty, imagining the tearful sacrifice story of a Big Rats Mom who died heroically protecting her 51 Big Rats that I slaughtered, but looking at the options makes me want to say thank you for using it.
“Agility Grade 1 is really good.”
Gloves are a highly preferred part of armor.
Both in Farming World and reality, hands are the most commonly injured body part in actual combat.
When fighting with weapons, hands often get minor scratches and are the most exposed part. Or sometimes hands get injured from the weapon itself.
Even outside of combat, hands are the first to go out when doing various tasks or exploring dungeons, so gloves are often chosen more safely than any other part.
The fact that these gloves have a defense of 8 already means they can fetch a high price.
For a simple example, if you enter a dungeon like a Tropical Rainforest Biome, you might get scratched by dense vines before even fighting monsters, and if there’s poison on them, it would be really embarrassing to have to leave the dungeon due to injury without even fighting.
That’s why B-grade gloves are expensive on their own, but they also give +1 grade to ability stats?
If there wasn’t a limit that only applies up to B+, I would have worn the gloves immediately.
“Maybe I’ll just wear them.”
Actually, if they didn’t have the stat increase option, I would have just worn them.
It’s a bit of a waste to wear an item with what people commonly call an “auction-grade” option.
It’s not an item I need right now anyway.
I threw it into the luggage I’ll be taking out in a day or two.
[Fang Dagger]
– Grade: B-
– A dagger made by grinding the only two fangs of Big Rats Mom. Surprisingly sharp and durable.
– Attack Power +13
– Additional Attack Power +3 when Agility is B or higher
Both of the two boss rewards from Big Rats Mom’s only two fangs are amazing.
It’s a B-grade weapon that should have a base attack power of +11, but it has slightly higher attack power and the special option effect is practically a permanent option for agility-focused hunters who use daggers.
This could also fetch quite a high price at auction.
I put this aside for now.
Since there was a sword among the dungeon reward box items piled in the yard, I wanted to check that first and if this was better, I planned to use the dagger as my main weapon for the time being.
The wooden sword’s performance isn’t bad, but compared to the Fang Dagger, the difference is too great to stubbornly stick with just swords.
I use swords because they’re the most versatile and good, but [Close Combat Weapons] SSS+ doesn’t really distinguish between weapon types, and [Leaping Slash] doesn’t necessarily have to be used with a sword either.
“Wow.”
At least the appearance was my style.
The [Fang Dagger] has no boundary between the handle and the blade, so if you’re not careful, your hand might slip onto the blade, and the blade is short.
That’s natural since it’s a dagger.
The sword from the box had a slightly longer blade than the wooden sword, and I liked the leather handle that felt just right when gripped.
And the dark black handle and blade gave it a kind of aged feel, like a hidden treasure.
“It looks like sewer color!”
“Shut up. You’re jinxing it.”
That’s the positive way to describe it, but Lulu’s blunt description is actually accurate.
The sword with a somewhat antique sewer feel was actually named as such.
[Sewer Sword]
– Grade: A-
– A sword made from sewer stone (河水石) where the most damp energy of the sewer has gathered. Extremely sharp and light.
– Attack Power +26
– +50% effect when using mana skills
– -20% mana consumption when using mana skills
“Wow… damn…”
I immediately threw the [Fang Dagger] on top of [Mother’s Touch].
The hero-grade reward box was different indeed.
The dungeon itself is D-grade, but maybe because the boss was B-grade, an A-grade item came out of the hero-grade box.
If I posted a brag on the Farming World community, it would immediately attract a flood of insults.
– Yeah right, enjoy your lie
– Making me want to curse Bitik lol
– An A-grade sword from a level 0 biome? From a sewer? Sure lol
– Just say you ate it. Stop being annoying.
I might have written something like that too.
Anyway, it was an undeniably sweet weapon, so I immediately removed the [Wooden Sword] occupying belt slot 1 and put the Sewer Sword there.
“The name is a bit off though…”
Sewer Sword? It makes you think I picked up a sword from a sewer no matter where I got it from, which feels a bit gross, but the options are insane.
Especially for me who chose [Leaping Slash] as a movement and attack skill, this mana skill effect +50% and mana consumption -20% is an incredible effect.
The movement distance increases from 100M to 150M, and the mana consumption decreases from 5 to 4, which means I can use it 12 times instead of 10 times in 5 minutes.
After picking up an A-grade sword, the remaining 19 items didn’t give me much excitement.
That’s how dungeon reward boxes typically are.
1-2 valuable items.
And the rest are miscellaneous items or tools that have some minor uses.
Since they might be useful somewhere, I put them in the 4th and 5th small boxes that were sitting idle.
“I shall name it the Sewer Salvation Sword (河水 救劍), a sword from the sewer that will save the world.”
“That’s cool, Master.”
Ignoring Lulu who was flattering me to get snacks, I lay down on the bed.
[Day 8]
Finally, the day I can go home has arrived.
