Ch.235235. Farming Day
by fnovelpia
Farming Day was one of the events in the Farming World.
It was a gift given to users who needed to step up their farming efforts, an event that unlocked in the second year.
Since the event trigger was random starting from spring of the second year, and the probability was quite low, there was talk about how players who got Farming Day in spring of their second year had a significant advantage over those who didn’t.
That’s how good this event was.
[Farming Day has begun.]
– Farming Day will last for 360 hours.
– During Farming Day, crop growth speed increases by 300%.
– During Farming Day, the probability of crops increasing by 1 grade rises by 30%.
– During Farming Day, the probability of crops increasing by 2 grades rises by 5%.
– During Farming Day, all growing conditions are optimized.
Some might think it’s nothing special, but for farming, Farming Day was practically a cheat key.
Forget all other buffs—the +300% crop growth speed alone meant crops grew 4 times faster, which translated to 4 times the harvest in the same period.
Moreover, it lasted for half a season—15 days—so it wasn’t an exaggeration to say you could squeeze an entire year’s worth of farming into Farming Day if you put your mind to it.
And weren’t we just discussing how to make Petit Farming Sugar?
“That’s lucky, isn’t it?”
“Why? What is it? What’s Farming Day?”
I explained what Farming Day was to Kim Soo-jung, who was with me.
“Wow! This is something we absolutely have to take advantage of, right?”
“That’s right.”
“I’ll go right away then.”
If I had known this would happen, maybe I should have chosen farming for one of my SSS+ Life Skills.
But there’s no use regretting what’s already done.
Who could have known Farming Day would come right at the beginning of the second year’s spring?
Honestly, I hadn’t even imagined it.
“It’s already the second year…?”
If we convert Rift Dimension time to real time, it’s exactly 4 months that have passed, and we’re entering the 5th month, which is spring of the second year.
Time seemed to have flown by quite quickly.
At first, I counted each day, planning when to log out and when to log in.
These days, as the biome difficulty has increased and clearing time has lengthened, most main quests take nearly a week to complete.
And it was quite unreasonable to finish real-world matters in just a day or two.
I headed to the farm first.
I couldn’t just delegate and watch from afar during the first event in the Rift Dimension.
“Oh.”
It’s been a while.
One red moon, one blue moon. Two moons hanging in the sky.
The world shines brightly as the mysterious lights from these two moons combine.
During Farming Day, the sky remains this bright throughout.
Neither day nor night.
Neither bright nor dark, yet giving off a bright feeling.
It’s a somewhat bizarre environment that divides opinions, but everyone loves it because of its definite effect.
Some say Farming Day is a reward for enduring winter.
Though given how good the effects are, it’s more accurate to call it an event.
“Wow.”
“Master, it’s Farming Day.”
“That’s right. Call all the Black Monkeys and run at full capacity.”
“Yes!”
The farm was bustling with activity.
From monsters in charge of farming to the Naru tribe.
The World Tree was almost fully grown, so it would likely be complete by the end of Farming Day.
Kim Soo-jung moved busily.
She planted the Petit Farming Sugar she made herself and directed the Black Monkeys and Naru tribe.
Since they were cultivating the land in the Steam Forest, and although most of it had been cleared, it wasn’t completely done yet, so they needed to work quickly.
Watching this, I mentioned another important point.
“Farming Day is a good event, but there’s another event that runs in conjunction with it.”
“Huh? What is it?”
Farming Day is literally an event where you can milk the benefits.
From the second year, if you’re lucky enough to get it, you can truly advance a year’s worth of farming, but Farming World doesn’t just give good rewards to those who aren’t prepared.
During Farming Day, monster raids always trigger in conjunction.
It’s meant to give some tension to people who put all their effort into farming during Farming Day, but the problem is that these monster raid events are quite difficult.
That’s why getting Farming Day in spring of the second year is actually a double-edged sword.
For veterans like me, by the time we enter the second year, we’ve already set up frameworks for base defense, so monster raids aren’t that impactful—it’s all benefit. But for newbies, an unexpected Farming Day in spring of the second year can be a major crisis.
Since monsters from level 3-4 biomes attack, many average users end up ruining their crops or having their fields destroyed, suffering losses and ultimately restarting the server.
Our Rift Dimension can’t avoid this either.
We’ve been trying to build a solid foundation from the beginning, so we didn’t create a base until we got Bratrium. Even though we’ve acquired Bratrium, we’re still processing it, and more importantly, Kim Sol-i is designing the base, so we haven’t laid the foundation yet. If a monster raid occurs, we’ll inevitably be vulnerable.
Both the World Tree fields and the Steam Forest.
Monster raids don’t just come to the farm; they also target the fields we’ve created, so during the 15-day monster raid, we need to either maintain a 24-hour defense posture or build sturdy walls.
“…So you’re saying we need to farm, defend, and do everything else?”
“Yeah. But don’t worry. Your first priority is farming, second is cooking, and third is guarding the base.”
“But I’m the only one with combat abilities here. Will you do it?”
“No, I need to go hunting during Farming Day. It’s not just farming that gets benefits.”
“Then?”
“I’ll bring in mercenaries.”
The reason I fed Kim Soo-jung SSS- combat abilities was to guard the farm.
Since she’s in charge of farming, she spends almost all her time at the farm, and if monsters happen to attack, she’s the first one who can respond.
But trying to handle both farming and base defense during Farming Day would inevitably split her attention.
So Kim Soo-jung needs to focus on farming, and we need someone else to protect the farm.
There are several ways to approach this.
We could give combat abilities to Lee Ji-hyun or Kim Sol-i and have everyone take turns defending against monster raids when they’re off duty.
But this is inefficient because people with Life Skill specialties need to focus solely on their life activities to be fully efficient.
A terrible boss might say, “Just do it outside working hours,” and in Farming World, people did take turns standing guard outside working hours, but in the Rift Dimension, we can’t ignore efficiency.
Lee Ji-hyun, Kim Sol-i, and Kim Soo-jung aren’t disposable resources, which makes this especially important.
So we need a mercenary who specializes in guarding the farm.
I already had someone in mind.
I immediately went out and contacted Kelin.
“Kelin.”
“Suhyun! What’s up? Did you call because you missed me?”
“I do miss you. Would you be interested in working as a guard for our farm?”
“…Huh? A guard?”
“I’m asking if you’d like to leave the SAINT guild and join our Farming Company.”
“Suddenly? You need me?”
“We need a reliable guard for our farm. The monsters will probably be much stronger and more dangerous than those in the dungeons you enter from Earth.”
It’s a bit of an abrupt proposal.
But there was no one more suitable than Kelin.
She’s capable, knows how to use her abilities, is favorable toward me, and has no reason to harbor other intentions.
Of course, there’s one thing.
Would she have any reason to abandon everything she’s achieved so far to join the Farming Company?
I could offer an answer to this.
“You can become stronger and get more rewards.”
“So your farm is like a dungeon where the Farming Company sources its resources?”
“Something like that.”
Honestly, by this point, anyone with some awareness would have noticed that I’m not simply bringing resources from dungeons.
I didn’t particularly want to hide it, and it wouldn’t make sense anyway—staying at home for days and then coming out with a flood of resources isn’t possible unless you’re using stealth to run SS-grade dungeons.
After thinking for a moment, Kelin asked me:
“Can Clay come too?”
“As long as it’s just Clay.”
“Great!”
Kelin’s concern wasn’t whether to accept, but whether her sister Clay could join her.
Kelin said she would fly over right away, but I stopped her.
“I’ll come to you.”
I flew to America to hire a guard for the farm.
