    # 229. Don’t Come to Regret It

Solomon’s eyes were much darker than before.

Most of the wounds he had suffered then had disappeared without a trace.

The only remaining injuries were the two massive wounds on his wings.

    “This is truly hopeless.”

Solomon was advancing toward me, dragging his massive body forward.

I swung my sword as usual while gazing at that gloomy sight.

Looking at their blood staining my body and the occasional wounds from gaps in my defense, a thought crossed my mind.

‘Wouldn’t it be better if the barrier just broke at this point?’

But even so, I couldn’t just let that attack through.

His overwhelming aura, boasting of his true identity, had the power to draw everyone’s attention by mere existence.

‘It won’t just be the barrier that breaks…’

And the moment I thought that…

    -Tzzzzz!!-

The magic that had been building in Bael’s weapon—a staff different from the one he had before—suddenly stopped.

I gripped my sword tightly, preparing to swing it toward that vast mass of magical power.

At that moment, dozens of spells appeared from nowhere, threatening me.

    “Just shoot.”

Lilith’s voice settled in my ear.

The moment I heard her voice, and the moment those spells approached right before my face.

    -Tzzzzzzz!!!-

A light like divine power emerged from his staff.

Trusting Lilith, I ignored the spells and swung my sword toward that light.

    -Gooo!!-

The abyss that revealed itself crossed the sky faster than that light.

The abyss, moving at the speed of light, began to devour that radiance.

It was like a black hole that could swallow even light itself.

    ‘That’s a relief…’

I looked ahead, reassured by that fact.

There stood a powerful warrior who had blocked dozens of spells with just a single sword strike.

That warrior stabbed her sword into the head of an enemy who had suddenly charged at her and said:

“That thing… seems like an upgraded version of mine? How annoying…”

“But it can’t touch pure objects without magical power.”

“What idiot doesn’t infuse their weapon with magic?”

“Let’s deal with these ones first.”

Lilith and I continued to push forward under her protection.

But the enemy forces were so vast… Despite swinging my sword without rest, they didn’t seem to diminish at all.

Faced with this absurd situation, I had no choice but to call upon my friend.

“Do what you can and come back.”

    -Gooo.-

The sword of the abyss, filled with dark energy.

I swung that sword with all my might toward the enemy forces.

As always, the abyss that revealed itself devoured all living beings in sight.

However, a large shield appeared before the abyss, stopping its movement.

    “Amon…?”

The shield of void protecting the reality of that shield.

The abyss began to gnaw at that void shield.

But soon, clear flames and magic bullets like cannonballs fell upon the abyss.

    -Whoosh!! Boom!-

The flames burned that darkness, and the magic bullets exploded, stopping the movement of the darkness.

Now the abyss showed no movement at all.

‘I guess it’s dangerous if it takes hits one-sidedly…’

The abyss, looking dejected, returned to me and went back into the sword.

    The blocked abyss.

I glared at the one who had accomplished this for the first time.

“How did you know about this?”

“Just a prediction. No attack or defense can be perfect.”

    His name was Amon.

The executor of the Babylon Kingdom and one who always showed absolute defense in any battle.

It had been quite a while since I’d felt the majesty of that shield.

    “Still the same.”

That shield, which could easily block even the Emperor’s attacks, was far beyond Briton and even Andres.

Looking at his unwavering stance, I thought:

    ‘Can I pierce it?’

Seeing even the abyss being blocked, I couldn’t help but feel discouraged.

But I gripped my sword firmly.

    ‘What choice do I have…’

I couldn’t escape from here anyway, and I needed to pierce that shield to survive.

Can I pierce it? Such weak thoughts had to be thrown away in this situation.

“But it’s too much right now, isn’t it?”

I might be able to pierce it if I tried hard enough.

But looking at that scene, I had no choice but to postpone that task.

Bael, as well as Vasa, Gamigin, and Marbas, had all revealed themselves.

“That seems a bit too much…”

It was clearly too much no matter how I looked at it.

The others might be manageable, but Bael was the problem.

If it weren’t for him, we might have had a chance with Lilith on our side.

But because of him alone, I couldn’t think this was doable at all.

    “I wish they’d come quickly…”

I looked at the barrier with an unavoidable sense of anxiety.

The massive and solid barrier that didn’t even crack despite receiving attacks from numerous enemy forces.

Of course, it could maintain that form only because it hadn’t been attacked by those guys.

    “Aren’t they coming out?”

Fortunately, as if they all had some conscience, they started coming out of the barrier one by one when I looked at them like that.

Starting with Marco and Amelia, then Kyle and Karina, Diabolica, Luna, Light, and others.

Even warriors of our age like Elin, Reina, and Raycle joined the battlefield.

And seeing them, the regular soldiers seemed moved and almost all personnel, except for the minimum required to maintain the barrier, escaped from it.

‘Something seems a bit off here…?’

The barrier clearly exists to protect us.

But now we were outside the barrier trying to protect it.

It felt like the roles had been reversed, but from my perspective, it wasn’t necessarily a bad situation.

I asked Marco, who had been the first to come out of the barrier and was now standing beside me:

“Is the barrier a place of refuge?”

“We have no choice, do we?”

    “Not bad.”

It wasn’t such a bad decision.

If we win in this state, we win, and even if we lose, the barrier will buy us some time.

Of course, I said this, but I really hoped we would win in this state.

Thinking that, I pointed my sword at those guys.

Then a voice, all too familiar, settled in my ear.

“The chances of that are slim, so don’t push yourself too hard so you can escape anytime.”

    “Yes…”

Her words were somewhat negative, but they were true.

Even though we had more powerful individuals on our side and had killed Agareus and Phenex in the previous battle, it still wasn’t enough.

Moreover, the Emperor wasn’t on our side.

Even with the Emperor, it would be a close call, let alone without him.

‘I wish he’d come to his senses after all that…’

Bael alternately looked at the barrier, now with only regular soldiers inside, and at me.

    Then he used [Heaven’s Gift].

This time it was a rather ordinary-looking longsword.

Bael advanced slowly, step by step, holding that longsword.

“By the way, where is that guy?”

    “He hasn’t arrived yet?”

    “Could he be scared?”

    “Well, probably.”

“Some Emperor he is, abandoning his country to his people… What a disgrace.”

    I didn’t deny his words.

They were absolutely right, and even she showed the same attitude as me this time.

Of course, she was itching to speak.

“Don’t you resent that loser? You seemed quite loyal.”

“It’s not loyalty, and I don’t particularly resent him.”

The reason I protected him wasn’t out of loyalty.

It was simply because he was someone who shouldn’t die.

And while he might be frustrating, I didn’t resent him.

But Bael didn’t seem to believe my words at all.

“I’ll make one final offer. How about coming under me and offering that loyalty to me? I am different from that loser.”

    Loser.

At those words, she gripped her staff tightly.

“I don’t run away like a coward, nor do I treat my comrades as insignificant. Moreover… unlike that guy, I am the strongest.”

His confidence was on a different level.

But the basis for that confidence was more than sufficient—it was overflowing.

He wasn’t just claiming to be the strongest; he truly was. No one could refute those words.

    Except for me, of course.

    “I decline that offer.”

“Why? Don’t tell me you think you can achieve victory in this situation?”

    “That’s not it.”

    “Then?”

“The one I serve stands on this side. That’s the only reason.”

Of course, even if that weren’t the case, I wouldn’t go to their side.

It’s just that there was no reason not to go.

“You really have a talent for irritating people.”

    “Look who’s talking.”

“That foolish decision, I’ll make you regret it! My men! This is an order!”

Bael pointed at me with his grotesque finger.

Then, with a voice like a massive mountain, he shouted:

“Kill all humans except that one! And I will deal with that human myself, so don’t lay a hand on him!”

That order was like a signal flare.

Those who heard it immediately began the battle.

The clash of numerous spells and various weapons—I kept those sounds in my heart.

Then I stood proudly before him.

“You’re the one who should not come to regret it.”
