Ch.221Is Something Big Coming?

    # Russia’s Intervention

Russia’s intervention was a concern for Poland since the beginning of the war.

And understandably so. Although Russia had been supporting Poland until now, wasn’t it Poland that had committed acts of terrorism against the Tsar who had extended his hand to them, regardless of the past?

If Russia were to occupy Poland under the pretext of protecting it from Germany, that would be troublesome in its own way.

But now, they had to consider Russia’s intervention.

    “Your Excellency.”

    “What is it?”

“There are demonstrations in the east calling for Russian intervention.”

    “At a time like this!”

Śmigły felt like his head was about to split.

The eastern region, being on the border with Russia, was heavily influenced by Russia.

Unlike the Russia of the past that had oppressed Poland, the current Russia had provided many benefits to Poland, resulting in an increase of pro-Russian Poles in the east.

They began demonstrating in earnest when Communist German forces entered western Poland.

But the war situation was extremely dire.

Intelligence reports indicated that French forces, now reorganized as the People’s Army, would soon be arriving.

    Could they really handle this?

Currently, Poland and the German Empire had scraped together 900,000 troops to hold the line, but that was just a number—the actual combat-ready forces weren’t nearly as numerous.

    “Will Russia intervene?”

Russia had built fortifications along the border in anticipation of Poland falling to Communist Germany.

This also implied that Russia had no intention of intervening even if Poland showed signs of collapse.

“Russia hasn’t yet gone to war with Communist Germany. It seems Communist Germany is taking advantage of this.”

“Still, it’s not over yet. We haven’t even begun requesting support from Russia.”

Śmigły refused to give up despite everything.

He would rather die in Warsaw than invite Russia and risk bringing in a tiger to catch a fox.

But the war situation was deteriorating by the minute.

Communist Germany’s armored divisions, developed by stealing tank technology from Austria and Poland through years of espionage, were formidable.

The People’s Army’s armored wave, which had been effective at Dunkirk, was too much for Poland to withstand, as were Communist Germany’s bombers.

Even so, surrender was not an option.

They now knew what had happened to the British forces at Dunkirk.

The People’s Army had killed almost all the surrendering British troops, except for a small minority who survived because the People’s Army was “tired of killing imperialists.”

So fighting was the only option.

The victory at Dunkirk had completely blocked British landing attempts, but it had also triggered Poland’s desperate resistance.

As Śmigły fought desperately, preferring death to calling on Russia, and western Poland was on the verge of falling—the Okhrana, which had been cultivating pro-Russian Poles for years just as the German Communist Party had infiltrated Poland to nurture the Polish Communist Party, made use of these people.

“Please, may the Saint’s army come to Poland’s rescue!”

At first, they called for pro-Russian forces and Russian intervention, but as every available military force was thoroughly defeated by the German People’s Army, the eastern Poles turned their heads eastward.

They hoped that Russia, which had shown goodwill toward Poland until now, would protect them.

“The Polish people are calling for us! Let us protect them from Communist Germany!”

The powerful White Army of the United States of Greater Russia finally began entering eastern Poland.

Śmigły, who had been desperately defending against the Communist German forces in the west with the last of the Polish forces, only then realized Russia’s true intentions.

    “We’ve been deceived!”

He realized too late, but the deed was already done, and the Russian army responded that this was not an invasion but a special military operation to protect the east at the request of the Polish people.

    “We’ll handle this ourselves.”

“Do you have the ability to protect it?”

With the west already almost completely overrun, they couldn’t afford to antagonize the Russian forces that had entered to protect the east.

    # # #

Very good news arrived at the State Duma.

They had occupied eastern Poland without any resistance.

This happened while Śmigły was fighting the German People’s Army with every available soldier, including those scraped from elsewhere.

Unable to handle a two-front war, Śmigły fought tooth and nail against Communist Germany to protect the west, avoiding provoking Russia.

“Your Majesty, congratulations! We have occupied eastern Poland without any resistance!”

Ungern laughed heartily as he congratulated me.

Well, I hadn’t expected this either.

We’re just not at war yet, but this is essentially no different from fighting each other—we’ve basically divided Poland into east and west again.

Moreover, Communist Germany is apparently setting up camps in every western occupied territory to “convert” Poles.

Well, at least we have no intention of oppressing the east.

“These people are capturing Polish intellectuals and officers under the pretext of re-education. It’s essentially oppression, not re-education.”

“Yes. Many have already been killed. It seems Śmigły’s last Polish forces are still holding out.”

That side is probably effectively over too.

Wow, this is why communism is truly remarkable.

Their actions are vicious, but they package it nicely with terms like “liberation” and “re-education.”

I think communism surpasses colonial empires in this regard.

They package things better than anyone, but they’re more vicious than anyone.

“Once they’re finished, the Polish government is effectively over. It’s unfortunate.”

“Seeing how Śmigły refused to request Russian intervention until the end makes him pitiable.”

Well, he did well as a second-rate leader.

It seems Communist Germany suffered more casualties here than on the western front.

“This is good. Now that the Polish government has collapsed, let’s form a government with pro-Russian monarchist forces.”

So we’ll create a new government, and I’ll ascend as Queen of Poland through the Eastern Military Union—perfect.

And since Vladimir is now with the White Army, I plan to let him make a name for himself through his achievements.

    “We’re already laying the groundwork.”

    Savinkov said proudly.

“It’s fortunate that Britain and France are in such a state. If they were in better condition, they would have immediately protested.”

If Britain and France were in good shape, would they have allowed us to take Poland? No. They would have raised hell.

But now Britain and France need Russia’s help.

The fact that they can’t even say anything to Turkey shows that the outcome is already decided.

“Hahaha! Communist Germany and the French Commune will be furious.”

    “What can those cockroaches do?”

If there’s one thing I regret, it’s this:

We couldn’t take all of Poland, and Communist Germany absorbed the western part, just like in the original history.

I find this a bit disappointing.

“It’s regrettable that we couldn’t occupy the western part, which is Poland’s core. But it can’t be helped.”

Not taking the west is quite unfortunate.

After all, the west is truly Poland’s core.

Of course, eastern Poland has also developed through exchanges with Russia, but the area that Communist Germany took can’t be ignored.

It’s a place where industrial power can be pumped up.

“However, due to Dunkirk, the Polish forces engaged in urban warfare everywhere the Communist German army occupied, resulting in the destruction of many western industrial facilities. Communist Germany probably won’t be able to use them immediately.”

    Oh, really? That’s good.

We need to take them out before those guys can make use of the Polish territories.

Poland won’t be able to hold out much longer anyway.

Evidence of this is the countless requests for intervention from the German Empire.

Moreover, resistance movements will emerge in Poland.

We’ve prepared the east and promised to protect it, so there won’t be any resistance attacking Russian forces.

“The annihilation of the British forces has actually made things more difficult for Communist Germany. What was Churchill’s response?”

I asked the Prime Minister about my earlier inquiry to Churchill regarding India.

I had suggested dividing India when it eventually gained independence, and I was curious how Churchill, with his temperament, would respond.

The calculation was that Britain, with its own problems, wouldn’t be able to do much either way.

On one hand, I was a bit worried about what would happen if Churchill refused, but I thought I had made a proposal that was considerate enough of British dignity.

“Britain is in such a state that they need to recall their colonial garrison troops, so they said we should discuss it later, but they didn’t outright refuse.”

“That makes sense. It would be difficult for them to refuse a proposal that benefits Britain. The Low Countries… hmm. Luxembourg has been annexed by Germany.”

Setting aside the India issue since Britain is in a desperate situation, our communist family immediately tore apart, tasted, and enjoyed the Low Countries after Britain’s withdrawal.

Looking at this, I can see the general picture.

It seems France’s reward for joining Germany wasn’t just becoming communist but also getting a piece of the Low Countries.

Looking at what the Prime Minister has compiled, the situation in the Low Countries is interesting.

It’s not just a compilation—with war approaching, we’ve had the Okhrana’s reports go through the Duma.

Since politics happens in the Duma, the information from the Okhrana needs to be reviewed by the Duma to determine the response.

“Yes. Alsace-Lorraine has been made a jointly governed territory by Communist Germany and the French Commune, and communist regimes have also been established in the Netherlands and Belgium.”

That’s to be expected. The Low Countries have been torn apart in all directions.

Unlike the original history, it seems they’ve properly divided the north and south.

“Hmm, Wallonia has been incorporated into France.”

Wallonia, the southern part of Belgium, has been incorporated into the French Commune.

This area was originally French-speaking, wasn’t it?

Anyway, considering Alsace-Lorraine as a loss, absorbing southern Belgium doesn’t seem bad.

Our good Goebbels has turned France from what would have been a defeated nation into a victorious one.

“Yes. I suppose they gave France appropriate carrots to draw them in?”

To summarize, Flanders and Brussels have been combined to form the Flanders People’s Republic in northern Belgium.

The Netherlands has become the Dutch People’s Republic.

France has gone from being a defeated nation to essentially a victorious one.

Britain has lost its entire army and is now fighting only because of Churchill’s pride. They probably want to make peace with Germany.

Since they’ve essentially won, the French Commune probably wants to rationalize their actions.

    But wait, what’s this?

Queen Wilhelmina has sent me a letter directly.

“Queen Wilhelmina, who has fled to Britain, has expressed her intention to fight to the death and has sent a personal letter directly to us.”

Queen Wilhelmina’s personal letter. Why did that old lady send it? Do I have to check everything personally?

    “You should check this directly.”

“I thought it was appropriate to send it to Your Majesty since it’s from another country’s monarch.”

I understand that, but the ranks don’t match.

The Netherlands is a small country. They even tried to do something about Germany with Britain but failed.

They don’t deserve to be compared to me, and this could have been cut off at the Duma level.

    Anyway, it’s Wilhelmina’s letter.

She must have been quite desperate, as it seems she sent it in Russian to accommodate us as much as possible.

It’s full of decorative language like “Dear so-and-so” and “Peace be with you.”

Let me summarize this in one sentence.

    ‘Please help us.’

It’s basically a plea for help.

    I find this really annoying.

“This is ridiculous. If they truly wanted to fight to the death, she should have stayed in the capital and fought until the end.”

    That’s what I think.

Having participated in the Allied forces, they should have fought to the death if they brought this upon themselves.

Even Stalin, despite having evacuation plans, stayed in Moscow and fought, leading to victory in the battle.

Of course, we need to consider the caliber of the nation, but still, it’s vexing.

Denmark was overwhelmed quickly and had been trying not to provoke Communist Germany, so that’s understandable, but I really don’t like the Netherlands.

Aren’t they the ones who tried to hold onto the Dutch East Indies even during reconstruction after World War II?

    These guys are historically disgusting.

If they really wanted to fight to the death, they should have died fighting gloriously like Poland.

“After joining the Allied forces, failing, and fleeing, they have the audacity to call for their people to fight to the death? Ignore them.”

Japan is openly crazy, but these guys are like psychopaths.

Isn’t it disgusting how they’re asking Russia for help now that they can’t trust Britain?

And with that attitude, they’re asking for help? We should ignore them.

Even if we help them, we should make them give up the Dutch East Indies.

When the Allied forces are collapsing like this, it’s the perfect time for us to proudly call for the liberation of colonies.

Not communist-style revolutionary liberation, but if colonies can genuinely become independent without revolution, they’ll choose that path.

    That’s what I’m thinking.

The time has come when colonies must be liberated.

De Gaulle and Pétain seem to have tried to hold out somehow, but if they want Russia’s support, they’ll have to give up their colonies.

Turkey is just reclaiming Ottoman-era lands, not colonies, so that’s fine.

I just had a good idea.

“At this point, can’t we do as we please?”

    “What do you mean?”

It’s only natural to answer what this means.

It means that the era of Russia has arrived.

“Now, none of the great powers have the capacity to manage their colonies. Don’t you agree?”

At the very least, it means we can now throw our weight around.
