Ch. 2 A Messed-Up Worldview
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 2 – A Messed-Up Worldview
I stared blankly at the light spreading from my fingertips. It felt warm yet strangely overwhelming. When I slowly waved my hand, the light traced a trajectory, rippling through the air like waves.
‘Wow… this is seriously amazing…’
I marveled inwardly. Honestly, I never dreamed I’d possess such holy power.
‘F*ck, if I had skills like this in the game, I’d have been called a pro. No, this isn’t pro-level—this is god-tier.’
But when I looked around, the priests gazing at me with reverent expressions. Among them, Raphael exclaimed in the most moved voice.
“Saintess… you truly are the one chosen by God! To bestow such a powerful blessing…!”
‘Ah, his gaze is so uncomfortable.’
I forced a smile and carefully lowered my hand. The light gradually faded, but a warm afterglow lingered at my fingertips.
‘But, it feels familiar. This sensation…’
Memories began to surface in my mind. The story and settings from the game I used to play slowly came back to me.
‘Heroes… Demon King… Saintess… Right, in this game’s story, the Demon King is…’
I felt like a puzzle was clicking into place.
“Countless heroes… and countless Demon Kings.”
The game’s early narration echoed in my head. The reason for the endless war in this world.
Heroes fight, the Demon King falls, the world is saved, but then the Demon King reappears in an incomprehensible cycle.
‘Back then, I just dismissed it as a cliché setting… but now that I think about it, isn’t this insane?’
Then, an important setting from the game came to mind.
“The origin of every Demon King is the Saintess.”
Suddenly, I felt a chill.
‘Wait, don’t tell me… me too?’
At that moment, a strange echo reverberated in my mind.
“My Saintess…”
‘…What? What did it just say?’
No sound reached my ears, but I felt as if a voice was whispering directly in my head.
“You will open the path for me.”
Goosebumps spread across my entire body.
‘Hey, f*ck, what is this? Is this God? Or… could it be the Demon King?!’
The game’s setting flashed through my mind. The Demon King wasn’t a being—it was a force. A destructive energy with a paradoxical sense of self. The setting where this force, connected to the Saintess, gains self-awareness and wreaks havoc on the world.
‘Don’t tell me I’m really the trigger for the Demon King?’
I grabbed my head.
‘Why is this damn worldview so messed up?!’
.
.
.
Just then, Raphael approached with a worried expression.
“Saintess, is something wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“Ah, no! Nothing’s wrong! Everything’s… perfect.”
I forced a smile and pushed Raphael away. And at that moment, another memory struck me.
‘Wait… by now, that event should…’
I broke into a cold sweat as a scene flashed in my mind.
‘It’s today.’
The event where the hero and the Saintess meet for the first time early in the game. And not just any meeting—it’s the event where the remnants of the Demon King first show signs of awakening.
‘F*ck, now that I think about it, it starts with a red light pouring out from a nearby village, followed by monsters swarming in.’
And ominously, right at that moment, an alarm sounded.
“Emergency! Reports of a strange light spotted in a nearby village!”
Raphael and the other priests exchanged startled looks.
“Saintess, this is a mission given by God. We must head to the scene immediately.”
‘…Hey, f*ck. I really just wanted to live quietly.’
I cursed inwardly but had no choice but to nod.
“Alright. Let’s get ready.”
But my mind was already spinning.
‘Is this really that event from the game playing out in real life? Then what comes next…’
I put on my most serious expression and thought.
‘Alright, first, I need to see if I can properly use this power. Whether I’m the Saintess or whatever, I have to survive to do anything, right?’
Then, I muttered while looking at my fingertips.
“…But, wow. This is seriously awesome. Is this really my power?”
A strange mix of pleasure and excitement surged through me as I felt the power in my body.
‘Alright. Even if I have to live as a virgin, I’ll survive first and figure things out later.’
I steeled myself for the fate laid out before me.
‘But… I really hope that voice in my head isn’t the Demon King. Please.’
.
.
.
According to the report, a red light had split the sky, rising from the center of the village, and monsters were pouring out from it.
‘Ah, f*ck… this is so cliché. How can it be this predictable?’
I sighed deeply and climbed into the carriage. Raphael looked at me with a tense expression.
“Saintess, are you okay? If this is too much for your first mission, please let me know.”
“(No, it’s fine. I just want to get this over with and go home.)”
Of course, outwardly, I said something Saintess-like, like “I will fulfill my duty,” but inwardly, I wanted to ignore the village and everything else.
‘Red light? Monsters? And the hero will show up here, right? Ah, f*ck… it’s exactly that story.’
.
.
.
When we arrived at the village, it was already chaos. The red light stretched into the sky, and screams echoed from all over. Monsters were rampaging, chasing the villagers.
“Saintess, we need to head to the altar! We must seal the red light with God’s power!”
Raphael shouted urgently.
“Got it.”
I tried to act as calm as possible as I moved toward the altar. But then…
Boom!
Suddenly, a massive monster leaped out in the middle of the road. It landed with enough force to shake the ground, baring its sharp teeth as it glared at us.
‘Whoa… isn’t this a boss mob? Why is something like this showing up in a village event?!’
Raphael, pale with fear, said, “Saintess, step back! I’ll buy us some time!”
He held a magic staff in one hand and created a barrier with the other. But the monster shattered the barrier in an instant.
‘Ha, f*ck. So I have to step up, huh?’
I took a deep breath and raised my hand. Light began to bloom from my fingertips again.
“Alright… since it’s come to this, let’s give it a proper try.”
I focused the light at my fingertips and ran a simulation in my head. Recalling the skill effects from the game, I drew out the power within me.
“Take this, you crazy bastard!”
“Fenestra Luminis!”
A spear of light formed in my hand and shot toward the massive monster.
Boom!
The spear pierced the monster’s heart, and with a final scream, it collapsed.
‘Whoa… is this really my power? This is seriously awesome!’
But my admiration was short-lived. The sound of more monsters rushing in echoed from all directions.
‘Ah, f*ck… you take down one, and more come? I’m so sick of these clichés.’
Then, a voice called out from somewhere.
“Saintess! Step back!”
I turned my head to see who it was. And for a moment, I was stunned.
‘…What the hell is with that insane visual?’
There stood a man who could only be described as a hero, clad in white armor and wielding a massive sword. Light flowed from his blade as he cut down the monsters.
‘Ah, f*ck… he really showed up. The hero introduction event.’
He reached out his hand toward me.
“Saintess, it’s dangerous. Come this way!”
‘Wait, what’s with that look? Why is he staring at me like that?’
I brushed off his hand and said, “I’ll handle it myself. You focus on your own job.”
The hero looked at me, bewildered.
“Saintess, what are you… we need to cooperate right now…”
“Hey, f*ck. Are you really in a position to tell me what to do? Can’t you see the monsters?!”
The hero looked shocked and closed his mouth. Raphael muttered with a confused expression.
“Saintess… did you just say ‘f*ck’…?”
‘Ah, f*ck, I slipped up again.’
I swallowed my irritation and brushed it off. “It’s a passionate expression of prayer! This isn’t the time to nitpick!”
Then, as I gathered light at my fingertips again, I muttered under my breath.
‘Seriously, this hero guy is so annoying… let’s just get this over with.’
.
.
.
I steeled myself to wipe out all the monsters in one go. I didn’t have the luxury to waste any more time. The light blooming from my fingertips grew stronger and spread into the sky.
‘Alright, I’ll clear them all with an AoE skill. What was it called again…? That skill from the game…’
A memory surfaced in my mind. Recalling the name of the holy AoE skill I’d seen in the game, I raised my hand high.
“Dies Lucis!”
With my shout, a massive spear of light appeared in the sky. The spear’s tip slowly descended over the monsters and then exploded in a brilliant flash.
Boom!
The screams of the monsters echoed throughout the village.
The red-light monsters all collapsed with shrieks. A beast-like monster with long claws tried to resist by slashing wildly, but the explosion of light tore apart its body.
‘Oh, f*ck… that’s intense.’
Bird-like monsters flying in the sky swooped down toward me, but the fragments of light scattered from the spear pierced their wings with precision. Some staggered and fell, while others turned to ash and vanished.
‘Good. This is the kind of power a Saintess should have.’
I stifled a laugh as I watched the scene. It felt like the thrill I used to get from using skills in the game was being recreated here.
The remaining monsters made a final desperate charge, baring their sharp teeth and claws as they rushed at me. But the power of the light had already overwhelmed them. One of them struggled to leap forward but was engulfed in the explosion of light and shattered into pieces.
“Phew…”
After all the monsters were dealt with, the village fell silent again. I lowered my hand, sighed, and looked around.
‘Ah, it’s finally over.’
At that moment, I heard clapping from behind.
“Amazing, Saintess.”
That guy, the hero, was adjusting his gleaming armor as he approached me. Even the way he sheathed his sword looked like it was straight out of a scene.
“With power like that, you’ll play a huge role in the fight against the Demon King. Saintess, won’t you join me?”
‘Why is this guy’s dialogue so forward?’
I turned my head sharply and replied, “No.”
