Ch.191Blabbermouth, Looking This Way (2)
by fnovelpia
After stopping Griyanar’s reckless attempt to turn a superhuman into a “former superhuman”…
I received a greeting from “Smeraghi,” who seemed quite different from before, as she emerged from the test tube opened by a pouting and grumbling Griyanar.
“Nice to meet nya! I’m Smeraghi nya!”
“Umm…”
“Sorry about last time nya, but now there’s absoooolutely no chance of that happening again, so don’t worry nya♡”
But what on earth had Griyanar done to her?
When she was first captured and dragged away, her eyes had been bright and lively.
But now, after coming out of the test tube, how should I put it…
She seemed to have gone completely off the deep end, so I tried to complain to Griyanar.
“Griyanar.”
“What is it, Commander?”
“Her eyes have no light in them. They look dead.”
“Human eyes don’t naturally have light in them.”
“The cat ears on her head have tentacles wriggling out of them.”
“SSS-rank superhumans have such strong brains that simple drugs don’t affect them at all.”
“…”
“Don’t worry too much. Once those go back in, they won’t come out again.”
‘Holy moly.’
But she flatly refuted everything I said, with an expression and attitude that seemed to demand praise for her “masterpiece.”
Regardless of the external appearance, I decided to first check if the friendliness level had actually been filled.
So I brought up Smeraghi’s status window and the friendliness confirmation window together…

<Smeraghi>
<Level 53>
<Type: Close Combat>
<Traits: Super-alloy Claws, Enhanced Senses, Flexibility, Assassination, Brain Parasite, Body Modification, Obsession>
<Stats>
Health: S+
Attack Power: SSS-
Physical Defense: SS-
Mana: C+
Magic Defense: S-
Mobility: S-

—————————————-
<Current Affection of ‘Smeraghi’>
<+105>
<Special Note: Due to parasites attached to the brain and spinal cord, along with appropriate drugs, affection toward you increases in real-time.>
—————————————-
‘Her traits have increased, and her stats have changed.’
Her original animal instincts were thrown out somewhere, replaced with traits like brain parasite, body modification, and obsession.
Her stats had also changed in various ways.
Health, physical defense, and mobility had each increased by one level…
(Health S→S+, Physical Defense S+→SS-, Mobility A+→S-)
But mana, which was supposedly connected to the mind or brain, had decreased by one level, and magic defense had downgraded by a whopping two levels.
(Mana B-→C+, Magic Defense S+→S-)
Wondering what on earth had been done to cause this, I stared blankly at Smeraghi.
But instead of the cat-dog hybrid Smeraghi answering, Griyanar, who was standing beside her, placed her hand on Smeraghi’s head and responded to my silent question.
“Oh, and Commander, to make her friendly, I inevitably had to mess with her brain, you know?”
“Nyaaaaaah♡”
“That’s probably why the mana system, which is directly connected to the brain, couldn’t help but decrease in performance.”
“…Hmm.”
“In exchange, though it’s not much of a trade-off, I thoroughly modified other parts of her body to compensate for the decrease, so she should be quite useful.”
“Mmnyah, nngh, nyaaa…nyaaaah…!”
“…I see.”
But why was she answering while sticking her finger into Smeraghi’s ear and rubbing it?
This incomprehensible situation aside, I couldn’t possibly focus on the conversation like this.
So I nodded and gestured for her to stop messing with Smeraghi and give a proper explanation.
Of course, Griyanar responded by sticking out her lips and grumbling.
But that didn’t last long.
Soon, Griyanar brought out a very detailed PowerPoint presentation and proudly began explaining exactly how she had trained and modified Smeraghi.
The only minor problem was…
“So, you see, I added protein binding components here, and then added more muscle fibers…”
“Ugh…”
“Come on, focus. We’re almost done with the body modification part.”
“Just the modification part…?”
“Yes, anyway, so I unraveled the nerve bundles and disassembled them, then added our monster cells and did this and that and blah blah blah…”
Most of what our professor was explaining involved using highly technical terms for “extremely detailed parts” that wouldn’t even be included in the setting guide.
And I couldn’t just cut her off because…

<Event>
<‘Griyanar’ is delighted to have the opportunity to show off to you after such a long time.>
<The probability of great success in future research or modifications using this superhuman will slightly increase.>
—————————————-
‘Ah, I can’t resist a great success chance.’
Not only did she tell me that listening to her would increase the chance of great success in research results…
As the event content showed, our Professor Gri-Gri seemed to have been quite lonely…
To increase the probability of great success and for mental care, both I and Jessica, who happened to be nearby, decided to experience Griyanar The Too Much Talker’s fun biology research presentation time.
Of course, there was no way I, who hadn’t even gone to college, could understand such complex and vast information…
‘Don’t put anything weird in my braaain!’
Before long, I was able to truly understand what it feels like when your brain short-circuits from excessive information.

Anyway, after picking up the “completed” Smeraghi (ver. Parasite) and bringing her along…
Since Smeraghi’s friendliness had exceeded +100, and as a result, Griyanar had also been freed…
I began to seriously carry out quests and various tasks using my superhuman pool, which had now grown to six people.
And the goal of such tasks was, naturally, to upgrade the base to level 7.
—————————————-
<Current Quest List>
<Eliminate Wild Monsters in Mining Asteroid> (Ignis) – <Reward: 1,500 Minerals>
<Fleet Maneuver Training!> (Berial, Pashtra) – <Reward: 300 Minerals, 100 Rare Resources>
<Unlicensed Pirates Must Be Disinfected!> (Partia) – <Reward: 2,000 Minerals, 300 Rare Resources>
<Suppress Rebellion in Forced Labor Camp> (Smeraghi) – <Reward: 1,000 Minerals, Reduced Probability of Rebellion in Forced Labor Camp>
<New Material Research!> (Griyanar) – <Reward: Ship Armor Material Enhancement Possible, 100 Minerals>

And by running quests at full capacity like this…
Since quest appearances and rewards were completely random, the highest and lowest performances showed quite a fluctuating pattern.
But thanks to this, I was maintaining a total mineral supply rate of at least 15,000, which made me nod involuntarily.
However, no matter how I thought about it, I felt that it would be quite challenging to keep up with other users at the current resource supply rate.
Right now, it was fine because Marian, who was absolutely furious, had sent a pirate fleet.
A massive fleet of about 5,000 ships, including at least 10 cruisers, was standing by solely to protect my base.
If that hadn’t been the case, as soon as someone posted an analysis of my fleet situation in the gallery…
There would definitely have been at least one person saying, “Hahaha, rank 3’s base is empty, easy pickings hahaha” and coming after me.
Anyway, with all these reasons piling up, I felt that, like it or not, upgrading the base to level 7 was now absolutely necessary.
