    # Chapter 185

“What the fuck! Emily, who’s this guy again?”

    “My boyfriend.”

Decker spoke with a disgusted voice after seeing Dexter’s large frame and body in the moonlight.

“Wow, your body’s like a weapon.”

“Thanks for the compliment. Anyway, why don’t you continue what you were saying?”

“Are you a cop or something?”

“If I were a cop, would Emily and I be together?”

Decker looked at Emily instead of Dexter, and Emily simply nodded her head in response without saying anything.

‘So I’m not lying when I say neither of us is police.’

Since Emily directly confirmed they weren’t police, Decker seemed to believe it, but he still took a step back from Dexter, worried that he might suddenly pull out handcuffs from his waist and arrest him.

“But why would someone who’s not a cop be curious about that?”

“I don’t know if I should tell you. It’s kind of a dangerous matter.”

    “Dangerous matter?”

    “It’s related to a cartel. If you’re scared, I won’t tell you.”

When Dexter deliberately provoked Decker’s temperament, Decker narrowed his brows and asked again.

    “So what’s this cartel-related matter?”

    “Can you handle it?”

“Ah, I’ll decide that for myself, so just tell me, will you?”

When Decker spoke with irritation, Dexter smiled and said:

    “Camila Carranza.”

As soon as Carranza’s full name was mentioned, Dexter could see Decker’s expression freeze in the dim moonlight.

“No fucking way! Were you with the CNL (Cartel de Nueva Lomas)?”

“Do they have white cartel members like me? I’m just doing a favor. According to Emily, Carranza was trembling with anxiety when she couldn’t reach you.”

“Like I said before, all the criminals in this area have gone into hiding. The only ones who don’t know that are criminals in prison. It would be better if it were an established cartel like CNL, but those bastards don’t even have a proper name.”

    Decker grumbled and continued:

“They definitely came from LA, but their leader hasn’t been identified, and they must have connections in the police and courts because reports and complaints against them don’t work.”

“What kind of guys are they?”

Even Decker didn’t seem to know much about their identity.

“So do you know any places where those gangs usually gather?”

“No, those bastards keep trying to lure me in, so I’ve been hiding for a while and don’t really know…”

    “They’re trying to recruit you?”

Hearing this, Emily spoke to Dexter in a small voice.

“He’s scrawny, but he’s good at selling stolen goods.”

“Hey, I can hear you. What do you mean ‘scrawny’?”

    “Go work out.”

As Emily caressed Dexter’s forearm while saying this, Decker crossed his arms with an expression that suggested he was witnessing something bizarre.

“How did you manage to win Emily over?”

    “With my face and body.”

“Fuck. No wonder she never responded when I came on to her.”

As Decker grumbled and turned to go back to his car, Dexter stopped him and said:

“Wait, you said those guys were trying to recruit you, right?”

    “Yeah. Why?”

“Try to set up a meeting with those guys.”

“Am I your subordinate? Why are you ordering me around?”

When Decker visibly showed his dislike at Dexter’s words, Dexter gently pushed Emily toward Decker.

“I’m asking as a friend, Decker. If you help, I’ll give you some good information.”

    “Good information?”

“Give me your phone, I’ll put it in.”

Emily took Decker’s phone, entered something diligently, and handed it back to him.

    “What’s this?”

“I found out by chance a few days ago. You said you wanted the Fat Boy from Terminator, right? This is where it’s parked. You can steal it or buy it, whatever you want.”

Emily had given him the location of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle that Arnold Schwarzenegger rode in the movie.

As soon as Decker heard this, he rushed toward Emily, trying to hug her.

    “Emily!”

“Hey, what are you doing with another man’s woman?”

But Dexter immediately grabbed and stopped him, and Decker looked at Dexter with a disappointed face and said:

    “Can’t I hug her as a friend?”

“It’s not polite to do that in front of her boyfriend. Get away, man.”

Decker was still skeptical about whether Dexter was really Emily’s boyfriend, but since this was the first time he’d seen Emily so attached to a man, he had no choice but to believe it.

As it would seem strange to keep pursuing a woman who was taken, Decker returned to his car and said:

“I’ll let Emily know when the place and time are set.”

“Should I give you something in return, like a finder’s fee?”

“Don’t be so pathetic. Emily, I’m leaving.”

    “Call me.”

With those words, Decker drove his car down the mountain, and Dexter looked at Emily and smirked.

“That guy seems to like you quite a bit.”

    “I knew that. But I wasn’t interested.”

“Is that how you talk about a friend?”

“The flip side is that I was interested in you, right?”

That was Emily’s way of complimenting him, and once Dexter realized it was a compliment, he lightly kissed Emily’s forehead, patted her back, and said:

“I feel like I should do something to live up to those words. What would you like?”

“I’ll tell you later at home.”

Dexter looked at Emily’s red hair shining in the moonlight as they got into Emily’s Barracuda and headed back to her secret garage.

    * * *

    The next day.

It was a day off for Dexter, Himena, and Jesse.

“I heard the transcript of Rascal’s interrogation came out early this morning, so I got it in advance. Want to take a look?”

    “That was quick.”

As soon as Dexter opened Rascal’s interrogation transcript, his eyes caught the numerous parentheses scattered throughout the text.

“‘Sobbing,’ ‘in an emotionally excessive state,’ ‘muttering to himself’… Is this a play script or what? Which page is the necktie part?”

From Dexter’s perspective, the only part that didn’t make sense was Rascal putting his necktie on the android.

“Turn more pages. No, more. Yes. That page. It’s there.”

[Q: Why did you put your necktie on the old-generation android?]

[A: (Sweating) The android was received directly from the Director General’s secretary, but it wasn’t wearing any clothes.]

[Q: So all the clothes were yours?]

[A: The Director General set a tight schedule, so I received only the android without time to buy clothes, so I asked some criminals to provide clothes.]

Rascal had been cautious due to the Director General pressuring him to find out Dexter and Himena’s schedule, but he made a mistake by moving hastily.

[Q: Were the suit and shoes, except for the necktie, brought by the criminals?]

[A: Those criminals said they didn’t have a necktie, so I brought a black necktie I kept in my car as a spare and personally removed my initials with a knife.]

‘He probably didn’t think they would investigate the necktie that thoroughly.’

To the naked eye, there was no visible damage to the necktie, and if it weren’t for someone with Dexter’s keen senses, it might never have been discovered.

The transcript was also filled with details about what the Director General had demanded from Rascal and the full story of the attempted bombing of Libertron before the current Subtron was initialized.

“Did Chief Quan conduct the interrogation gently?”

“I heard he asked them to write the transcript as if he had asked questions mildly.”

“What, did he grab him by the collar during the actual interrogation?”

“It might have been a bit worse than that. Since the Director General might kill him, they said they’ll send him to Guantanamo Bay detention camp after a few more interrogations.”

    “Wow, Guantanamo.”

Dexter shuddered as soon as he heard the word “Guantanamo” from Himena’s mouth.

Honeygood Prison was like heaven compared to Guantanamo.

From the start, Guantanamo Bay detention camp was guarded by soldiers, not prison officers, so it naturally couldn’t be compared to a regular prison.

“If it were someone else, I might feel sorry and pray for their soul, but I hate that bastard so much I don’t even want to do that.”

“Me too. Oh, by the way, let’s ask Judy if she’s free today for brunch. She’s always saying she’s lonely.”

“She’s actually quite introverted. She doesn’t dislike it, but she enjoys knitting and such.”

“I can sometimes feel that when talking to Judy.”

    “What?”

“She seems to enjoy meeting me, but there’s a feeling like she wants to go home.”

    Dexter pondered Himena’s words.

‘She did seem tired after going out, even if nothing happened.’

“What do you think, isn’t brunch a good idea? Hm?”

“We’d have to bring Jesse and Emily too, so wouldn’t it be hard labor rather than brunch for Judy who has to prepare the food?”

It wasn’t a planned appointment made days in advance, and it wasn’t properly prepared, so having to make food for five people would indeed be closer to hard labor, as Dexter said.

“We can order food. Don’t worry. I know several chefs.”

“Ah, here comes the money talk again.”

    “It’s not about money!!”

Himena seemed to have developed a neurosis from Dexter constantly teasing her about money lately.

    “…Are we having brunch?”

The door to the guest room opened, and Emily poked her head through the gap with messy bed hair and half-open eyes.

“What would you like to eat?”

“Umm, I’d like… since it’s hot, maybe butternut squash potage…?”

Himena checked the time on her phone, smiled at Emily’s childlike appearance, and said:

“See you in an hour and a half.”

    “Okay…”

“I’ll just make a quick call to someone I know, okay? Is Jesse in his room now?”

“Yeah. He’s probably showering and drying his hair.”

In response to Dexter’s answer, Himena scurried into the bedroom to talk to Jesse.

Dexter couldn’t understand why she was so enthusiastic about brunch.

    ‘Is brunch that great?’

While Dexter was pondering such trivial matters, Director General Olivia’s secretary, whose shins were always bruised due to Dexter’s actions, was grinding his teeth from early morning.

    ‘Fitzroy, that idiot…’

He had heard the news that Rascal had finally been exposed as a spy and was being temporarily detained.

Rascal wasn’t the last OSA spy, but among the OSA spies, Rascal had the most secure access to information and the widest range of movement.

The other spies were closer to temporary employees, making it difficult for them to move to other departments.

In this situation, the secretary couldn’t help but sigh when he heard that Rascal had been caught due to small mistakes.

‘I mean, even if I didn’t provide clothes, what kind of idiot uses his own clothes?’

    But then he also thought:

‘Well, if Olivia hadn’t been so pushy, he might not have made such a mistake.’

The secretary finally held his forehead, wondering how to reveal this fact to Director General Olivia.

If he revealed it directly, she would surely kick his shins, saying this was all they achieved after spending so much money and time. If he didn’t reveal it, she would kick his shins for not telling her.

It was also difficult to kill Rascal to prevent him from talking further.

‘I heard security has become stricter since the Professor Chris incident.’

The killing of Professor Chris and his graduate student before they could pass more information to OSA had become an issue.

    ‘That backfired.’

He couldn’t kill recklessly, and a different approach was needed for Rascal.

The secretary began reading the note on his desk again.

[…he will be sent to Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.]

    ‘Guantanamo, what’s there…’

The secretary began to carefully consider ways to silence Rascal while preventing any more information from flowing to OSA.
