    Has Something Changed? (8)

    “How is it…?”
    “…”
    “…”
    “…”

Was it not to their taste? The atmosphere suddenly felt like a tense cooking show, with me nervously swallowing my saliva. Meanwhile, my own hands were still busy picking up slices of kimbap.

    For me, it tasted fine.

    “It’s amazing.”
“You’re not just pretending to like it, right?”
    “No, really! It’s delicious!”

Relieved by Inari’s reaction, I shifted my gaze to Koyuki.
How about you? If you liked it, you would’ve said so already—
But she was just sitting there, completely still, not a single reaction. Maybe our twin tastes differ?

    “Hrk…”

“Wha—?! You hate it so much it makes you cry?”

I panicked, seeing tears welling up in Koyuki’s eyes.
Did it taste that bad? I deliberately avoided spicy ingredients, thinking she couldn’t handle heat… But is it so awful she’s crying?!

    “N-no, that’s not it…”
    “…Ah.”

Oh, they’re tears of joy, not sadness.

She was definitely crying, but her lips were curved up in a trembling smile—pure delight rather than mockery. Feeling a wave of relief that it apparently did match her tastes, I rushed to console her teary face.

“Hey now, don’t cry. Come on, Koyuki, it’s good food, so why the tears?”
    “It’s just…”
    “Mm? Go on.”
    “…It tastes like Mom’s cooking.”

    “… … …”

I was at a loss for words. “Like Mom’s cooking”? That one sentence hit me with a sudden punch of emotion. Koyuki buried her face in my chest, and I patted her on the back.

“Okay, okay. I’ll make you lots of food from now on, so please stop crying, yeah?”
    “…Mhm.”
“And remember, if you hiccup from crying, you won’t be able to eat anymore.”

No sense ruining a perfectly good meal with the hiccups, right? Thankfully, she calmed down quickly, wiping away her tears as she resumed eating. Whew. I had seriously worried for a second there that she found it disgusting.

[“Why Don’t I Get a Home-Cooked Meal from the Protag?”]
[(Toya bragging that Natsu made kimbap.JPG)
(Inari bragging that Natsu made kimbap.JPG)
(Yukitoki bragging that Natsu made kimbap.JPG)
Why only them?! Why only them?! Why only them?! Why can’t I get a lunch cooked by Han Yeoreum?!]

    ㄴ[I can’t get one either…]
ㄴ[That kimbap is probably infused with Han Yeoreum’s essence, right?]
ㄴ[←Honestly, forget the kimbap – I’d be happy to do things to the protag’s hand…]
    ㄴ[←(Natsu: “Severe punishment” emote)]
ㄴ[←I’d actually do things to her feet, too…]
ㄴ[←Whenever you get a lawsuit, don’t act surprised, guys lol]
ㄴ[←(Natsu: “I will sue you!” emote)]
ㄴ[But, wow, she really wrapped that kimbap perfectly!]
    ㄴ[←Looks super appetizing.]
ㄴ[←The kimbap resembles the one who made it.]
    ㄴ[←(Toya drooling emote)]
    ㄴ[←(Inari “Ohohoho” emote)]
    ㄴ[←(Toya “C’mere!” emote)]
    ㄴ[Call the police, officer!]

    [Why’d they eat by themselves?]
[(If they’re gonna eat, they should at least stream it so we can watch! The four of them eating together would fill us up emotionally, so by not streaming it, they’re basically letting us starve! This is outrageous. Time to spam the forum with 20 million rage posts, haha.)]

    ㄴ[Dae Yeoreum!]
    ㄴ[(Worship Han Yeoreum emote)]
    ㄴ[(Worship Natsu emote)]
    ㄴ[(Natsu GOAT emote)]
    ㄴ[(Natsu “Let’s drink!” emote)]
ㄴ[Real talk, why not just stream themselves eating?]
ㄴ[←You know you’d send a ton of superchats if they did…]
ㄴ[←They’re probably sparing us from spending too much money!]
ㄴ[At least the protag is eating well recently—that’s good to see.]
ㄴ[←Whenever I see her, my paternal instincts flare up for some reason…]
ㄴ[←Fun fact: none of us watchers actually have kids, yet she makes us feel fatherly love.]

[But can she even cook at that height?!]
    [(3D model-based image of Natsu’s height.JPG)
    No way! That’s obviously a Toya-made conspiracy.
We need Natsu to come to our homes to prove she can really cook kimbap, yep.]

    ㄴ[Exactly LOL]
ㄴ[Come on, Han Yeoreum, come to my place too…]
ㄴ[I’d devour that kimbap like nobody’s business, but I guess she’s not coming haha]
ㄴ[If it’s truly made by the protag, I’d lick it clean even if it fell apart, no joke.]
ㄴ[←I’d lick the protag’s sides clean too, no joke.]
    ㄴ[←?]
ㄴ[←Alright, this one needs to be reported…]
ㄴ[←Hello, “IWantToEatHanYeoreum,” fancy seeing you again…]
ㄴ[←It’s the National “Han Yeoreum Pension” Gallery, folks.]
ㄴ[Honestly, at this point, Han Yeoreum is a perfect homemaker type…]
    ㄴ[←Even as a guy, it’d still work, apparently…]
    ㄴ[←That’s so gay…]
ㄴ[←(Natsu: “I’m not gay anymore” emote)]

    [Oh, Toya just started streaming!]
[“Today’s Special Guest: The Protag, haha!”]

    ㄴ[Another typical Toya broadcast…]
ㄴ[She’s basically not a “guest” anymore, just a co-host by now.]
ㄴ[Why don’t they just merge their channels already? lol]
ㄴ[At this point, whenever Toya or the protag streams, we hear the other’s voice at least once—100% true.]
ㄴ[←Well, they live together, so that makes sense.]
    ㄴ[←Wait, is that true?]
    ㄴ[←It’s true, yep!]
ㄴ[←Toya and the protag cohabiting is even mentioned in various fan comics…]

    “…All this fuss over kimbap.”

Toya wanted to upload photos of my kimbap to Wisp, prompting Inari and Koyuki to start snapping pictures, too. Before long, notifications were exploding on all three of their phones. The fans were apparently going nuts over a few simple pictures. Who knows why.

    “Hehe, Natsu, look at this.”
“…They’re asking if I can even reach the cutting board? Of course I can.”

Technically, based on my height, it might seem I couldn’t, but we have a custom footstool in the kitchen just for me. If I couldn’t reach even with that, we wouldn’t have bothered making it.

    “Nacchan, here’s another one.”
“…‘Little kids shouldn’t be allowed to use knives’?”

I knew they were half-joking, but it still feels weird to be treated like a child by random strangers on the internet. Well, maybe not total strangers—they’re viewers, after all. But still…

    > “If you’re finished eating, I’ll clear the table.”
    “Oh, I’ll do the dishes.”
“I’m fine. I made the food, so I’ll clean up, too.”
“Nope! Yeoreum, you go rest in your room! Inari and I— Actually, she’s probably still half-asleep, so I’ll just do it myself.”
    “I’m not half-asleep!”

And so, once again, Toya and Inari started bickering about who’d do the dishes. So much energy. Though I guess they’re pepped up because they just ate?

“Okay, I’ll leave it to you. I’ll just watch and see who actually does them.”
“…That’s basically your way of dumping all the chores on me, right?”
    “Wh-what? No way!”

The two of them donned rubber gloves like they were preparing for battle, competing to see who could wash dishes faster. Suddenly, the atmosphere got all fired up. Koyuki, still sleepy, started clapping in encouragement.

    “Wow, wow! Go, Inari~♬”
    “Oooohhh…!!!”
“Haha! Look at her speed up!”

Inari’s dishwashing speed tripled in response to Koyuki’s cheers. She was going so fast I doubted the soap had time to rinse off properly. Also, there weren’t that many dishes to begin with—seemed like an overkill.

    “Hah… My victory…”
    “Nice job, Inari.”
    “Hehe, thanks!”

Inari beamed at me, foam still clinging to her face. Koyuki noticed, grabbed a towel from where it was hanging, hopped off her chair, and walked over.

“Inari, bow your head a bit?”
    “Huh? Why?”
“You’ve got soap on your face, lemme wipe it off.”

    “Uwaht—!”
Inari flinched when Koyuki’s hand touched her face. But she let her wipe it away anyway.

    “Thanks, Koyuki.”
    “No problem!”

They look pretty cozy together. Maybe you could call Inari Koyuki’s first true “friend”? Ragu-sensei is more like a big-sister figure, and I’m her twin… so by process of elimination, yeah, Inari’s her first friend.

“Let’s go to our room, Yeoreum.”
    “Huh, suddenly?”
    “I’m so full, I’m sleepy…”
    “What? Really?”
    “Just kidding~♬”

Toya scooped me up, leaving the other two to their own devices. I wondered if she really was going to bed, but no—we headed toward the streaming setup. My lips twitched into a grin; so we’re streaming again right after waking up and eating? Must be some kind of workaholic vibe.

    > “Since we’re here anyway, let’s do a two-person stream for old time’s sake.”
“Is it really ‘old time’s sake’? We literally did one last week—”
“Heehee, even if it was last week, it feels like it’s been ages!”
    “…Fine, let’s say it’s been ages.”

She placed me on the higher chair meant for her proportions, then raised her own seat so we were at about the same height. So I couldn’t run away, I guess. Not that I intended to.

    Fables
