Chapter Index

Of course, not just me, but everyone else and even the passing wild monsters felt the same way…

Despite facing an opponent impossible to defeat head-on, we were trying to buy time, as is typical in such battles.

We used the time gained from our carrier aircraft strikes to complete repairs cleanly.

And despite mobilizing everything we could—including patrol ships constructed in what little time remained, and destroyers with only one turret for armament but at least having the size and bulk of destroyers—to inflate our numbers as much as possible.

We’ve been deployed for about 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Or rather, excluding the 30 minutes it took to “get there,” we’re now beginning our encounter with the Unity Clan.

“Commander, the mercenary units have been completely annihilated!”

    “Damn it.”

The mercenary units, which had 44 ships ranging from light cruisers to patrol ships, were literally “slaughtered.”

In just 20 minutes of combat, their fleet of 44 was reduced to 10, and only escort ships and smaller vessels that could easily evade remained.

But we couldn’t just waste the mercenaries’ spirit of sacrifice(?), so somehow we had to face that absurdly large fleet.

We decided to hang on without retreating, dragging things out to buy time for the base barrier, which only had about 40 minutes of operation time left.

And somehow we managed to hold on.

After executing a hasty tactical reverse charge to the base, we lowered the barrier and essentially said “come at me bro.”

    “You bastaaaaard!!!”

“Did you really think that would work?”

The enemy users, filled with resentment, could be seen screaming through their speakers and bombarding our base, but…

    “Hahaha, it’s so sparkly.”

    “Y-yes, it is.”

Since the base barrier could withstand simultaneous bombardment from 7 battlecruisers and dozens of heavy cruisers—unless they had “siege-type battleships” that only come from the final tier or gacha luck.

Once the shock and fear from moments ago subsided, while our barrier sparkled so brightly it could cause photosensitive shock, I decided to check how much fleet damage we’d sustained while buying time.

Of course, some might ask, “Why aren’t you attacking one-sidedly from behind the barrier?” Well…

Title: Base Barrier Explanation for Newbies

    Author: Wiki Officer mk-999

    Content: [Astral Base Settings]

When you first dive into this game and poke around the items and base functions, you’ll find something called a “barrier”

What this thing does is put your base in a semi-invincible state

To break through it, you need special weapons that come with siege-type battleships

But those are so damn slow that unless you came specifically planning to pound a base from the start, it’s meaningless

For those who quit the game and came back, you might not know this, but because there were so many people who would cause trouble and then activate their barrier to wait it out

Now it takes about 2 hours of preparation time to activate one

And this is super important—it only lasts for 24 hours max

During that time, neither enemy fleets NOR your fleet can move in or out of the barrier

When the barrier is activated, lore-wise it’s using the base’s full power, so you can’t use the base teleport system either

Since the wiki tab I just looked at had such a kind explanation…

I decided that since there wasn’t much I could do right now, I might as well check our fleet status and see our losses.

    ‘Hmm, fleet status.’

    —————————————-

    Fleet Status

    Total Points: 288.5/550 points

Aircraft Carrier: 1 ship, 70 points each = 70 points

Light Aircraft Carrier: 2 ships, 40 points each = 80 points

    Battlecruiser: 3 ships, 30 points each = 60 points

Heavy Cruiser: 4 ships, 10 points each = 40 points

Light Cruiser: 1 ship, 6 points each = 0 points

    Destroyer: 0 ships, 3 points each = 0 points

Escort Ship: 0 ships, 1.5 points each = 0 points

Patrol Ship: 1 ship, 1 point each = 1 point

Resource Mining Ship: 25 ships, 1.5 points each = 37.5 points

    —————————————-

Looking at these truly dismal results—a fleet reduced from 35 ships to 11—I witnessed the scene of an absolute massacre.

I quickly started building ships at the shipyard to somehow increase our forces.

Then I mobilized all the resource mining ships (repair ships) remaining in the base to hurry repairs on the ships that had been smashed to pieces in the recent battle.

The one fortunate thing was that while they were slaughtering us, the enemy fleet lost quite a few heavy cruisers and smaller ships.

Their fleet, which was around 250 ships, dropped to under 200 while reducing us from 78 to 11.

Of course, at this point, while I was building battlecruisers and new ships and repairing all sorts of vessels,

Our resource supply rate plummeted to complete chaos because we’d brought in all the transport destroyers too.

“Commander, we’re running out of resources!”

As Jessica cried out in alarm, we nearly reached the point of getting fleet debuffs due to resource depletion, but…

    <Resource Box Opened!>

    <Total Resources Acquired: 58,300 Minerals, 2,700 Rare Resources>

    —————————————-

“Go and finish processing with these.”

    “Ah, yes.”

Despite the gacha disaster, I still had resource boxes I’d bought from past event shops.

I decided to solve the resource shortage by opening the remaining resource boxes.

And a critical point about the barrier setting was that while it prevented base teleportation…

    “Kraken, show your power!”

Ships with “self-teleportation” abilities like the Kraken could still send aircraft and missiles outside the barrier.

As soon as the cooldown ended, I immediately teleported a barrage of missiles and torpedoes right in front of the enemy fleet.

The enemy fleet, surrounding the base and perhaps taking a nap, responded slowly to my teleport attack and helplessly lost about 10 ships.

But because of that, they might have thought the barrier was already down and I was attacking, so they immediately fired a full volley.

Of course, since the barrier was still up…

I could even receive anonymous chat messages, clearly sent by one of the enemy fleet users.

    ==========

At the same time, the Unity Clan was extremely furious after losing another 10 ships to the absurd teleporting missile-torpedo spam.

    But that didn’t last long.

After thinking carefully, they realized that in just a few more hours, the base barrier would come down.

And since Kraken’s teleport attack was already over and couldn’t be used again, they understood there was nothing more they could do.

To prevent Icarus from abandoning the base and escaping with his fleet intact once the barrier fell,

They surrounded him from all directions without any gaps, determined to annihilate Icarus who had served them a huge defeat.

Of course, in this situation, while everyone else was already seeing results whether successful or not,

The Humanity Clan representative, who came to check on Unity’s situation after a week of no contact, facepalmed and said:

“Are you guys joking? We told you to accept their surrender, not grind these valuable forces to dust. Who told you to do that??”

He berated them harshly for completely destroying the forces of a 3rd-ranked user while also losing their own ships.

But seeing their eyes filled with nothing but malice after being one-sidedly beaten by Icarus despite striking first,

He just shook his head, essentially telling them to do whatever they wanted, and left.

    ==========

    And finally, the next morning.

As my precious base barrier was deactivated…

    “Shit, now’s the time!!!”

    “Now’s the time!!!”

    “Argh.”

Against the Unity Clan’s 180 ships—numerous but battered from continuous air strikes—

I engaged in an absolutely terrible battle with my fleet of 15 ships, including newly constructed vessels, alongside the base defense system.
