# 16. First Day (1)
The next day, it finally became March 1st.
On the first day, the entrance ceremony would be held in the auditorium.
It was a very ordinary schedule.
With so many students gathered in the auditorium, it was both chaotic and noisy.
I chose a seat at the very back of the student seating area.
As soon as I sat down, Raycle appeared from somewhere and sat next to me.
I asked him:
“What are you doing?”
“This is the best spot, you know.”
It certainly was a good seat.
A prime spot where you could leave immediately after the entrance ceremony ended.
But most students didn’t realize this and were sitting as close to the front as possible.
‘They’ll have to wait an incredibly long time.’
I felt sorry for them, knowing they’d be waiting for quite a while later.
Just before the entrance ceremony began, a familiar voice came from behind.
“Oh, hello? You guys are already here.”
Following Raycle, Chris also sat in the last row.
Raycle said to Chris:
“You’re late.”
“I overslept because I forgot about it.”
Come to think of it, Chris was always the type to be late for appointments, wasn’t he?
I remembered always waiting an hour whenever I had plans with Chris.
“Hey, by the way, do we have regular classes today?”
Chris asked me about today’s classes.
“Probably?”
Chris’s expression darkened when he heard my answer.
Raycle sighed and said:
“What electives did you guys choose?”
“Dungeon.”
“Me too, dungeon.”
“What about the rest?”
“Physical training, swordsmanship, and intermediate magic theory.”
“Divine power, intermediate magic theory, and physical training.”
Chris and I had chosen the same subjects except for one.
Raycle seemed a bit surprised by our answers.
“Intermediate magic theory? That difficult subject?”
“It’s actually super easy to get good grades in that.”
“You only need to do a little bit.”
Apparently, because it’s so difficult, they give high scores even for minimal effort.
Raycle looked at Chris and asked:
“But why is a priest learning physical training?”
“Have you ever been hit by a healer?”
“No, that’s why I’m asking.”
“You will be soon.”
In reality, Chris was quite proficient in physical training as well as divine power.
He could toy with most warriors using just his physical combat skills.
He even beat Raycle once by enduring with self-healing and winning through stamina.
This must be the result of his hard work starting from this time.
By the way, what is this guy taking?
I was curious about what subjects Raycle had chosen.
“Then what about you?”
“Physical training, dungeon.”
“And the rest?”
“That’s it, just those two.”
“So you’re just going to play during the remaining time?”
“Of course.”
This guy was in no position to question Chris about choosing physical training.
Having fewer electives means the other subjects carry more weight.
‘But I guess it doesn’t matter for him.’
He’s the type who can make a living by joining parties based on skill alone.
“Parties only recruit based on skill anyway.”
“They look at grades too, you know.”
“What are you planning to do?”
Chris seemed to be asking about my career path.
‘Career path…’
“Special Forces, of course.”
“Wow… that tough job?”
“It’s cool, isn’t it?”
It looks incredibly cool in the public eye, but in reality, it’s an extremely difficult profession.
Always fighting on the front lines risking your life, clearing unprocessed dungeons, doing spy work…
Is it just my imagination that I suddenly don’t want to do it anymore?
“It is cool.”
“The current Knight Commander was also in the Special Forces.”
It’s also a job that pays well and offers good treatment.
It’s the dream job for many hunters.
“But you need to be incredibly strong to do that.”
As Chris said, you need to possess insane strength as a basic requirement.
That’s why there aren’t many Special Forces members.
Even when I was active as Special Forces, there were only about 12 members.
“You’ve got big dreams.”
“You guys could do it too.”
In fact, Chris was in the Special Forces.
And Raycle could have done it too if he wanted.
“Maybe I should give it a try?”
“Go for it, you’re more than capable.”
Chris was contemplating his own career path.
“Oh, it’s starting.”
As Raycle said, the entrance ceremony began, and Briton, the freshman representative, appeared on the stage.
Students couldn’t help but admire his neat appearance in the school uniform.
“Wow… he really looks like a sculpture.”
“Was he always this handsome?”
“Is it fair for the top student to be that good-looking?”
Briton recited the matriculation pledge and bowed his head in greeting.
Raycle complained beside me:
“He’s so lucky, becoming the top student thanks to favorable matchups.”
“It was definitely favorable matchups.”
Chris agreed with that statement.
“But you lost to him.”
“…”
“If you had faced me or Albert, you would have definitely been eliminated.”
“I can’t beat him.”
I definitely couldn’t have beaten him back then, even if Raycle might have.
“Because of your stats?”
“Yeah, because of my stats.”
My strength was too low, so I could never have broken through Briton’s shield.
“But what did you do during those five months?”
“My level was lagging, so I worked hard.”
“I think I’d lose if we fought now.”
“You lost last time too.”
“You talk as if you won before.”
Chris burst into laughter.
Raycle glared at Chris like he wanted to kill him.
I changed the subject to defuse this murderous atmosphere.
“The principal is giving his speech.”
They quieted down and listened to the principal’s address.
After the boring speech finally ended, the teachers were introduced.
“That teacher is such an asshole.”
Raycle was pointing at one of the teachers.
Chris looked at the finger-pointing with a puzzled expression.
“He teaches well.”
“He keeps waking me up.”
“The problem is you sleeping during class.”
“I sleep because there’s no need to listen.”
“That’s just an excuse.”
I wonder if these two get along well or poorly…
Still, their bickering was kind of fun to watch.
‘Who are the teachers?’
I examined the faces of the teachers on the stage.
Among them were faces I recognized, but there were many I didn’t know.
I never really had connections with the academy teachers to begin with.
At most, I only knew the teachers who had helped the military during the war.
I was looking at the teacher who left the strongest impression on me.
She would also become the wife of the guy next to me.
“What are you staring at?”
Raycle noticed my gaze.
“That teacher is quite pretty.”
“It’s not like that at all.”
“You don’t need to hide it, you’re at that age.”
Considering she was in her mid-thirties, she was an incredibly youthful-looking teacher.
‘She looks exactly the same as back then.’
Being an awakened one, there wasn’t much difference in her appearance from that time.
“That teacher is our homeroom teacher.”
“Huh? Really?”
Raycle seemed startled by Chris’s words.
Looking at Raycle, he seemed fidgety.
“Why are you so surprised?”
“Ah~ you don’t know? Well~”
“Shut up.”
Raycle glared at Chris with a fierce expression.
“Hey, you’ll find out anyway. Can I… tell him?”
“Do whatever you want.”
Raycle gave permission with a very displeased expression.
Chris then said excitedly:
“He confessed to that teacher and got rejected.”
“Really? No way…”
I couldn’t believe it, so I looked to the side.
There sat Raycle with a gloomy expression as if he’d lost his country.
‘Seems it’s true.’
It appears he had liked her since his academy days.
I heard about their marriage quite late, so I thought they hadn’t had any connection during academy times…
“And he confessed again.”
“Why are you telling that too?”
He must have pursued her for a long time.
‘I guess he’s the type to only look at one person.’
Of course, I was the same.
“What’s wrong with knowing? It would be sad if you didn’t know about this amusing thing.”
“Do you really want me to hit you?”
“If one punch is enough, I’ll gladly take it.”
About 20 minutes passed like that.
After the entrance ceremony ended, students headed to their respective classrooms according to the guidance.
We were able to quickly get to our classroom since we were near the exit.
“Our classroom is this way.”
When we entered the classroom Chris pointed out, I saw an ordinary lecture hall.
We entered the classroom and each sat where we wanted.
Chris sat at the very front, I sat somewhere in the middle, and Raycle sat at the very back.
“Why are you sitting there? Come to the front.”
“The very front is a bit much.”
Raycle agreed with me.
Chris reluctantly came and sat next to me.
“The front row is better…”
Grumbling as he sat next to me, Chris gestured for Raycle to come over.
“I’m not coming.”
“Come here.”
“I said I’m not coming.”
“I said come here.”
“You guys argue so childishly.”
They still had that middle school vibe.
But in the end, Raycle swallowed his pride and came over.
“When are the others coming anyway?”
About 10 minutes had passed since we arrived in the classroom, but we were still the only ones there.
“Probably in about 20 minutes.”
“So if we had sat in the front, we’d be waiting for 30 minutes?”
“Of course.”
The thought that we could have been buried in that crowd waiting for 30 minutes sent chills down my spine.
“You should thank us.”
“I was sitting here first though?”
“Oh, that’s right…”
Raycle, who had been watching our conversation, said:
“What’s today’s schedule?”
Chris turned on his phone to check today’s timetable.
“History, math, basic magic theory, and combat practice.”
“Combat practice on the first day?”
“Albert, let’s fight this time. We couldn’t last time.”
“Sure.”
While we were chatting about today’s schedule, someone opened the classroom door and entered.
‘So he’s in our class.’
Leo Michael.
He entered the classroom with the same expressionless face as yesterday.
