Ch.168″I hate victories that only leave scars.” (1)

The fortunate thing was that our Kraken’s groaning wasn’t due to serious damage.
The problem was that the reason for its groaning was quite bizarre.

<Even Monsters Overeat!>
<Details>
<After finally getting the chance to feast on all sorts of things during a large-scale fleet battle.>
<Though called a starship, the Kraken-class—a living giant monster less than a year old—couldn’t resist and enthusiastically “gorged” itself.>
<The problem is that after engaging in excessive gorging incomparable to anything before, the Kraken seems to be suffering from indigestion due to overeating.>
<‘Kraken-class Assault Aircraft Carrier’ has been given the ‘Overeating’ trait (Until digestion completes: Mobility -10%, Evasion Rate -30%, Accuracy -10%)>

‘Mmmrrrmmmmrrrr.’
Incredibly, it had simply overeaten like a pig and was now suffering from indigestion, resulting in deteriorated condition.
“Haha, that’s ridiculous.”
“I know, right? I feel the same way, Commander.”
The situation was so absurd that Jessica and I couldn’t help but laugh.
Of course, it wasn’t that this came out of nowhere or that I didn’t know about it.

Title: tip. Monster ships get indigestion if they eat too much
Author: Wiki Historian mk-3
Content: [Ultra-large monster concept art image], [Screenshot proving the Overeating trait]
You know how monster ships often just straight-up eat their opponents in close combat, right?
Small monsters eat fighter aircraft, large monsters eat ships, that kind of thing.
Since they’re living creatures according to the lore, it makes sense,
and when players fight fleet battles, you sometimes see monster user ships go berserk and eat their own ships, so everyone knows monster ships eat things
But most people don’t know that monster ships can get “indigestion” or “overeating” traits.
Even those who know rarely see it with their own eyes while playing the game, that’s how rare it is
I think this might be a system the game company implemented for balance purposes
If monsters could eat everything with their black hole stomachs, other users would be completely screwed
Anyway, cutting the chatter and getting to the point
It’s really uncommon, but occasionally when a monster ship eats more ships in a single battle than its allocated limit, this trait appears
The ship does get slightly stronger after digesting (like armor thickness increasing by 0.1mm)
But the important thing is, as you can see from the screenshot, when this happens, your ship is basically crippled
And this isn’t a debuff that reduces the final calculated value
It cuts directly from the base value, so it’s incredibly harsh
Of course, as mentioned above, monster ships rarely get this condition
So monster users, feel free to keep feeding your monsters

-[Hmteresting]
-[So this setting actually exists]
-[But why is it supposedly rare?]

As shown in the recently written wiki post,
The setting that monster ships can suffer from “overeating” had been a notable feature since the game’s launch.
My laughter partly contained joy that the Kraken had slaughtered enough enemies to reach the “overeating” state.
Anyway, realizing I didn’t need to worry about the Kraken’s condition,
“But I can’t resist taking proof shots.”
“Haha…”
I decided that if I survived this battle, I would document living proof of the “monster ship overeating” that most users had only heard about.
I planned to take pictures of the Kraken groaning from overeating.
==========
About 5 hours later.
“The Kraken looks fine now.”
“I see.”
After pressing its stomach(?) against nearby asteroids and other actions to relieve indigestion,
The Kraken had finally digested the ships it had piggishly devoured and was now frolicking energetically, which gave me a sense of satisfaction.
Of course, since the Kraken wasn’t my child or anything, I wasn’t enjoying its frolicking(?) itself.

‘Ah, this is sweet enough.’
It was partly because my small, precious Kraken had become slightly stronger.
Besides the Kraken, there were quite a few other positive developments in our fleet.
“Commander, I think the aircraft from our newly built light carrier have gained enough experience.”
“Oh? So they’ve leveled up enough.”
Our No. 1 light carrier, which had been pushed around due to insufficient levels and used as meat shields for the Kraken’s aircraft…
After fighting hard with its own weapons instead of aircraft in that intense battle against the user with three light carriers,
And performing the great feat of crushing a patrol ship with its ram, it had leveled up enough to now make a sufficient contribution.
In terms of Superhuman levels… about level 25?
Though subtle, this was enough for it to fulfill the role of a light carrier.
Moreover, among the three ships we snatched—no, captured—from the enemy user was a light carrier.
Surprisingly, this light carrier was not only more developed than mine,
It was even slightly higher level than the Kraken.
‘Sweet loot!’
The other two ships were a light cruiser and a medium destroyer, so through this battle, the combat power of my directly commanded “main force” had increased considerably.
But nothing in life comes without downsides…
While the main force suffered minimal damage, the mercenary groups fighting on the front lines had suffered catastrophic losses.
“Commander, I have something to report…”
“Hmm.”
“First, two mercenary groups suffered too much damage and have declared contract termination, retreating to the pirate alliance headquarters.”
“Only two?”
“One group was completely annihilated, so their contract was automatically canceled.”
“Oh.”
Out of the 12 mercenary groups we initially had, a quarter—three groups—had been completely wiped out and had left our fleet…
“And three more mercenary groups had over 30% of their fleet forces sunk, so they’re essentially considered annihilated and are undergoing emergency repairs at the base.”
“Hmm…”
“Another three have almost no ships sunk, but more than 50% of their fleet forces are heavily damaged and need repairs.”
“Hmmmmmm.”
Hearing that the condition of the remaining mercenary groups, except for three, was not good at all,
I felt my mood becoming increasingly unsettled.
To make matters worse, there was an issue with the captured light carrier.
“Commander, we can’t use this right away.”
“What.”
“The enemy resisted fiercely during capture, and their commander went berserk trying to scuttle it, so the engine compartment is broken and everything’s a mess.”
“Wha-wha-what.”
“We can temporarily get it running using monster biological parts, but while aircraft operations might be possible, it’s best not to expect much in terms of mobility or self-defense.”
“Oh dear.”
With the Professor’s diagnosis that the damage was more serious than expected, making it unusable in its current state,
I began to wonder if I had experienced a Pyrrhic victory.
