Ch.154154. True Colors
by fnovelpia
After encountering the monster-type kaiju, they came across eight more kaiju.
These kaiju, seemingly abandoned due to the death of their commander, were appearing at shorter intervals as they moved in a specific direction.
From this, the agents deduced that the target new species of kaiju were likely in the direction they were heading.
Fortunately, they had already collected and teleported samples of the virus presumed to be floating in the air, along with several other specimens.
These included the corpse of a kaiju killed by a particle disintegration beam, and another kaiju whose body had melted halfway into little more than a lump of meat.
After sending various kaiju specimens through the portable teleporter they had brought, they were finally preparing for combat to acquire weapons from the new species of kaiju.
“I’ve found them, Captain.”
“777-20, location and numbers?”
“There are two infantry-type scouts 1.37km from here. Both are carrying guns that fire those blue beams.”
“Anything unusual in the surroundings?”
“No. The nearest other patrol is at least 4km away.”
“Good. They’re our targets.”
Purely in terms of specs, their response to just two infantry might seem excessive, even if these infantry were mid-level kaiju, but given their characteristics, they couldn’t afford to let their guard down.
While they could block the beams with reactive armor-type translucent shields, they couldn’t block the grenades these creatures used.
“777-3, 777-5, 777-10. Follow me.”
“Yes!”
“Yes!”
“Yes!”
“777-3 will come with me on the left, 777-5 and 777-10 take the right. Over.”
After deciding to launch a quick surprise attack with the three close-combat specialists and speed types plus himself, they activated their bodysuits’ stealth function and began approaching rapidly.
777-3 wielded two folding scimitars with psionic blades deployed from a three-section metal frame, 777-5 used special gauntlets, and 777-10 wielded dual one-handed axes.
The four of them approached in ambush formation, sprinting hundreds of meters in an instant until they were close enough to see the scouts, and then—
“Go!”
At his signal, the four agents charged forward, launching their surprise attack on the two scouts from stealth as planned.
Slash—Crack!
As 777-3 quickly severed the joint of an arm with his folding scimitar, a halberd dropped onto the disabled scout kaiju’s head, splitting it in two.
After dispatching the kaiju in what could be described as mere seconds, they looked toward the other two—
Crack!
Though slightly delayed, they too had managed to neutralize their target, with 777-10 attacking the legs with his axe to force it to kneel, while 777-5 crushed its head with his gauntlet.
Normally, living beings, including kaiju, die when more than half of the back of their head is crushed, so naturally, the agents assumed the creature was dead.
But there was something they had overlooked—
…Click.
Beep—
BOOM!!!!
These kaiju had their brains in their torsos, allowing them to move for about a minute even with their heads split open—which they used to self-destruct with particle disintegration grenades.
Very fortunately, thanks to 777-1’s quick reaction—swatting away the corpse holding the grenade like a golf ball with his spear—777-1 and 777-3 were safe, but the other two weren’t so lucky.
Only tiny portions of 777-5’s scalp and fingertips of his left hand remained, while 777-10 lost everything except half of his right hand holding the axe and a few toes, all disintegrated into particles by the explosion.
It was the worst possible situation—losing two valuable agents and failing to secure the sample that was their mission objective.
Unfortunately for them, the agents didn’t even get a chance to mourn their fallen comrades.
As they say, beneath the underground lies an even deeper underground. In other words, there were still more trials awaiting them.
Woong! Woong!
“Enemy attack!”
As if they had known the agents would attack the scouts, blue beams began flying in from two directions, forming a cross pattern.
The number of beams coming from one direction alone numbered in the hundreds, but fortunately, they were being properly blocked by the reactive armor-type translucent shields.
However, these shields had their limits, making it necessary to attack the enemies.
“Everyone, target the right side first.”
“Yes!”
Following 777-1, who had informed the agents of their priority target, they neutralized the attacks in various ways and moved forward—
In just one minute, they covered a distance of about 2km, and could suddenly see the kaiju launching the attacks with their naked eyes.
There were 40 kaiju that looked more like soldiers in high-tech suits from an advanced mechanical civilization than traditional kaiju, perhaps because they were a new type.
They were firing blue beams from fish-shaped personal weapons resembling tuna that they wore on their right arms like bracers, but at a glance, these weren’t their only weapons.
The arm-mounted weapons varied in size and shape, and the beams of various thicknesses they fired, though appearing chaotic, were coming in patterns designed for maximum efficiency.
“Reactive armor 70% depleted!”
“Mine is at 74% depletion!”
“84… no, 85% here!”
After quickly checking their rapidly depleting reactive armor-type translucent shields, the agents readied their weapons.
“Let’s go!”
With 777-1’s combat order, they began moving according to the plan they had already established through their neural network.
The vanguard, consisting of agents with superhuman strength, began hurling the massive corpses of monster-type kaiju they had brought along as mass weapons at the new kaiju.
No matter how these new kaiju were mid-level, being crushed under dozens of tons of mass flying at considerable speed could certainly kill them.
Woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong-woong—!!!
As some of the kaiju changed their firing targets to intercept the incoming kaiju corpses, concentrating their firepower on disintegration and interception, the firepower directed at the charging agents naturally decreased.
“Firing!”
Once the distance had closed sufficiently and the kaiju were within range, the agents began attacking them with their respective psionic abilities. With their mid-level capabilities, the kaiju were no match for the agents, who were equivalent to high-level mercenaries.
Until now, they had been able to fight on equal terms only because of their particle weapons, which could kill anyone in one hit due to the vast difference in civilization levels, and because the resources allocated to these mid-level kaiju had been invested at an almost divine level, giving them incredible firing capabilities despite their rank.
To be frank, without those particle weapons, these kaiju couldn’t defeat even a single agent, even if there were tens of thousands of them.
That is the true power of field agents from Triple Single Number departments, high-level mercenaries, and general-grade experts, while simultaneously demonstrating how game-changing those particle weapons are in overcoming that difference.
Kaiju were torn vertically by telekinesis manifesting in mid-air, had their heads ripped off and exploded, or were crushed and flattened like cartoon animal characters from classic animations.
Psionic lightning discharged from one agent’s hand not only electrocuted kaiju but turned them to dust with overwhelming output, while another’s flames incinerated them without leaving even ashes.
Others were decapitated by blades or had their entire bodies smoothly crushed in what amounted to a venting of frustration, completely destroying all 40 or so kaiju.
Immediately afterward, they needed to attack in the direction of the disintegration beams that had been coming from the left all this time… but there were several problems.
First, most of the agents had already lost most of their reactive armor-type translucent shields during their approach, and their condition wasn’t good due to excessive exertion.
“…We’re returning.”
Therefore, 777-1 decided to return, having secured various sizes of weapons, and announced they would retrieve the corpses as samples.
Although the corpses were significantly damaged, each had different damaged parts, making them valuable as samples, and since they had secured weapons as well, the mission could be considered accomplished.
“777-3, activate it.”
So 777-1 turned to 777-3, who had the teleport relay connecting this place to their ship, and requested activation, but—
“Oh my, what a shame?”
“…?”
777-3 suddenly displayed a chilling smile that sent shivers down their spines, then openly destroyed the teleport relay with her psionic power—
“I’m sorry, but you can’t go back from here.”
After breaking her mask and destroying the only means of escape from this planet, she suddenly softened her expression and smiled happily.
Click!
At this creepy sight, all the other agents inevitably pointed their weapons at her.
