Ch.148148. Unir, the Supreme Water Spirit
by fnovelpia
“Yuu-!”
If asked to describe the feeling, I’d say it was similar to when I first saw Lulu.
A spirit.
If Lulu gave off the impression of being a fairy, this one was unmistakably a water spirit to anyone who saw it.
[Summoning Highest-grade Water Spirit ‘Yunir’]
[Spirit required for contract: 500 > 150]
“This is the highest grade?”
It was bigger than Lulu.
About waist-high, with no legs but a long tail-like extension of water, while the upper body had a human form.
A human made of water.
That seemed like the best way to describe it.
That’s why despite wearing nothing, I felt no particular emotion.
Just as one wouldn’t find an animal’s chest provocative.
And it was actually quite cute.
“Wow. What is this? What is this? Oppa, who is this? So cute.”
“Yuuung…”
Yunir made a cute sound and seemed wary of the suddenly appearing Kim Sujeong.
Then it hid behind me.
Splash-
I flinched reflexively when something wet touched my shoulder, but surprisingly, it felt like skin rather than water.
“Yuu…”
“I’m not a bad person. I’m this person’s sister. Family. Family.”
Kim Sujeong raised both hands slowly and extended them, as if approaching a cat or dog, insisting she wasn’t dangerous.
As if letting it get used to her scent.
But Yunir stayed firmly behind my back, refusing to come forward.
I checked Yunir’s information first.
[Spirit Information]
– Name: Yunir
– Grade: Highest-grade Water Spirit
– Ability: Master of Water(SS)
– Skill: Master of Water(SS)
– Mana Consumption: 100 per minute
“Wow. This is incredible.”
Spirits typically have simple abilities.
They usually just have basic abilities and skills, which is called a “pure state” spirit.
Not all spirits are like this—some have multiple skills or two or three abilities, but that’s rare.
However, those aren’t necessarily better.
Most users prefer spirits in their pure state, like Yunir.
The reason is simple.
Pure state spirits don’t require additional spirit resources beyond their basic grade value.
Spirits with additional skills or abilities generally consume more spirit resources for contracting.
They’re like optional extras.
The problem is that these options are quite costly.
The most efficient way to contract with spirits and minimize resource consumption is to contract with a pure state spirit first, then use spirit resources to strengthen and teach it skills.
“It’s incredible, but hmm.”
That’s why contracting high-grade spirits for a farm isn’t actually that efficient.
It’s often better to contract multiple lower-grade spirits and teach them just the necessary skills—that’s a more efficient use of spirit resources and provides more versatility.
That’s how I used to do it.
By the end, the farm was running well even without spirits, so I tried summoning a Spirit King as a last hurrah.
What wouldn’t come no matter how hard I tried there appears here with one attempt.
While not a Spirit King, a highest-grade spirit is still extremely rare.
They’re just below the unique Spirit King, with only dozens existing, each with their own name.
What’s curious is that the ability of the one before me seems rather special.
“Isn’t ‘Master of Water’ the Spirit King’s unique ability?”
Highest-grade spirits each have their own unique abilities.
Some control rain, others shoot water-related cannons.
Most have water-related abilities, but as far as I know, the ability and skill “Master of Water” belongs only to the Water Spirit King.
“What’s your relationship with the Water Spirit King?”
“Yuuuu…”
Yunir tilted its head at my question and smiled brightly.
Then it said something.
But the pronunciation was a bit… peculiar.
“Apa! Ubba!”
“…What is it saying?”
“Father… or is it Oppa? Father? Isn’t it saying Oppa to you?”
“…”
“Oppa, what are you…”
“Don’t look at me like that.”
Setting aside the strange looks, I proceeded with the contract.
“Let’s make the contract.”
“Yuuuuu!”
Yunir excitedly circled around me.
[Contracting with Highest-grade Water Spirit ‘Yunir’]
[150 Spirit will be consumed]
[If you unilaterally terminate the contract, 10% of the consumed Spirit will be permanently lost]
[You can strengthen contracted spirits by consuming Spirit resources]
A transparent water thread connected between Yunir and me.
The proof of our contract.
Evidence that my spirit was connected to Yunir’s.
And now I had only 350 Spirit left.
“SS-grade mana got me 500 Spirit, but contracting one highest-grade spirit costs 150… If not for my Spirit affinity, I’d have been at 0 right after contracting and would’ve had to keep it in pure state.”
The reason I contracted with Yunir was primarily because it seemed connected to the Water Spirit King.
While I wouldn’t mind contracting with the Spirit King itself, judging by Yunir’s Spirit consumption, it was obvious that my meager 500 Spirit wouldn’t be enough to handle the Spirit King’s manifestation. So this was a temporary measure.
And as I said, higher-grade spirits aren’t always better.
Named spirits like Spirit Kings consume much more Spirit, so sometimes a slightly lower-grade spirit with a Spirit King’s unique ability, like Yunir, might actually be better.
So while contracting multiple lower-grade spirits is most efficient,
the story changes when a high-grade spirit with good cost-performance appears.
If I feed and raise this one well, it could be more effective and efficient than even a Spirit King.
That’s why I judged this contract to be a fairly good deal.
“Yuuu!”
“Uwu. So cute. Show me some aegyo too, Yunir.”
“Yuuu!”
“No? I’ll make you something delicious. What do you like? Chicken? Hamburger? Pizza? You’ve never tried those, right?”
“Why would a spirit eat anything? It would just come out as poop. Since it’s a water spirit, probably as diarrhea.”
“Ugh. Oppa! Spare me the gross talk.”
Somehow it was cute watching Yunir flying around me, giggling despite my crude joke.
I’m definitely not its real father.
It’s probably just feeling friendly toward me thanks to my SSS+ Spirit affinity.
Spirits don’t easily leave their world, after all.
It might seem excessive to show such excitement toward another species, but spirits are known to be quite shy around those with low spirit affinity.
When I entered the cabin with Yunir sitting on my shoulder, it shivered and curiously explored the interior.
When it returned and touched my hand, its water-like skin felt cool.
“What’s this? Are you cooling down after coming inside?”
“It’s seriously adorable.”
Well, it is blazing hot outside.
Yunir, having changed from warm to cool water, became even more lively.
Watching this, I clicked my tongue at Kim Sujeong, who was making a masterful hamburger with the ingredients we had.
As far as I knew, spirits don’t eat.
More precisely, they survive on their summoner’s mana.
That’s why summoning requires mana, and maintaining the summon also consumes mana.
As seen in the information, Yunir consumes 100 mana per minute.
If my mana grade hadn’t become SS- with over 1100 total mana, I wouldn’t have even considered maintaining it.
It’s only because my mana recovery rate exceeds 350 per minute with all my items that I can sustain the summon while it constantly drains my mana.
“It doesn’t eat…”
In conclusion, a spirit that consumes 100 of my mana every minute shouldn’t need food…
“Wow. Is it good? It’s good, right?”
“Yuu!”
Seeing Yunir happily eating the hamburger shattered my understanding once again.
I thought being made of water would prevent it from eating, but surprisingly, its human-like upper body consumed food without any awkwardness, and it seemed to digest well since I didn’t have to witness the food passing through its transparent body.
“Eats mana, eats food. Quite the appetite.”
Well, I’ve already made the contract, so it’s fine if it eats well.
I took Yunir outside again.
“Yuu!”
“I have a mission for you.”
“Yuuu!”
Yunir raised its hands to its waist, burning with enthusiasm as if asking me to entrust it with the task.
I’m relieved it’s not prideful or disobedient despite being a highest-grade spirit.
I took Yunir to the field and said:
“Can you water this field?”
The field was quite large.
Though we hadn’t completely moved yet, there were signs of the Black Monkeys working hard to relocate the field near where the World Tree was planted, and Kim Sujeong had also expanded the existing field by planting various crops since arriving at the farm.
So the daily watering task was taking quite a while.
The watering time increases as the field expands.
Spending 1-2 hours every day watering until we can at least make copper sprinklers is a waste of time.
If possible, I should use the water spirit I contracted for this purpose.
“Yuu!”
Yunir raised both hands.
Rumble-
Then rain began to pour from the clear sky.
