Ch.140140. Titan Military Academy
by fnovelpia
# Milky Way Solar System, Titan.
This moon of Jupiter, once suspected to be the source of monsters, is now used as a military academy training officers for the Human Federation Army.
And in the main auditorium of that academy, where about 40,000 first-year students who enrolled this quarter are gathered—
“Welcome, you little chicks! I’m Instructor Batman, and from today I’ll be drilling monster basics into your heads!!!”
…A lecture was about to begin from a madman with an extremely strong personality, showing off his muscular physique wearing only shorts.
Though he might look like a complete lunatic, Instructor Batman was actually a Lieutenant General who used to slice up monsters on the front lines before being pulled back when his reaction speed slowed. He’s both a legendary madman and a hero who achieved the feat of being the first to eliminate a named superior-class monster single-handedly.
Because of this, most cadets ignored his eccentric behavior and gazed at him with sparkling eyes. The Lieutenant General, who had projected an interface in front of each person using his psychic abilities, continued speaking in a strange voice that all 40,000 could hear at the same volume.
“This instructor hates small talk, so I’ll get straight to the point!”
For some reason, while striking bodybuilding poses like side chest and double biceps, he enhanced the concentration of all 40,000 present with his psychic powers and calmly began his lecture while being the center of everyone’s attention.
“Monsters! They are stronger than any enemy and absolutely impossible to negotiate with! And as you all know, the monsters of this era are classified into six major categories!!!!”
The major classifications of monsters are common knowledge for talented individuals who voluntarily enlisted in the military, but this information is somewhat concealed from the general public as it could cause social unrest if widely known.
Therefore, since there are consistently about 2-5% of people each quarter who genuinely don’t know, Lieutenant Gen—er, Instructor Batman delivers this lecture personally to review the information for others while capturing everyone’s attention.
“First, Warriors! These are the class of monsters you’ll fight first when you graduate from this hellhole and become second lieutenants!”
With those words, four photos appeared on the interface in front of them.
They showed what appeared to be representative examples of the Warrior-class monsters the instructor mentioned—a Hive Rat, a knockoff Xeno■orph, a four-armed insect humanoid, and a quadrupedal beast mostly covered in carapace.
“Even the less stupid among you morons would have noticed! These are all… small to medium-sized monsters specialized in close combat. That’s right! ‘Warrior’ is the term for monsters that serve as close combat infantry!”
Though the Hive Rat and the unidentified quadrupedal monster might be slightly ambiguous as infantry, a man of Instructor Batman’s caliber must surely be stating facts.
“Warrior types are, first of all, fast! Incredibly fast! Their role in monster armies is similar to suicide attack units, so anyway, they’re fast!”
As Instructor Batman emphasized their speed several times, more information appeared on the interface.
This time it was combat footage between a Federation regular infantry soldier and a knockoff Xeno■orph. The video showed the approaching Xeno■orph dodging all the soldier’s laser fire before piercing the center of his chest with its tail.
“As you can see, Warrior types can dodge gunfire by watching the muzzle, making them very difficult for ordinary soldiers to defeat alone! You need at least a veteran non-commissioned officer or soldiers forming a firing net!”
This explicit scene of a person dying, along with Instructor Batman’s commentary, lowered the mood among the 40,000—but Batman was very skilled at controlling such pacing.
“But listen up! If you losers don’t get expelled and become officers, you’ll definitely become second lieutenants skilled in close combat! And, and your role will be to deal with these pieces of trash when they approach!”
To raise the mood and boost their confidence, Instructor Batman showed footage of what appeared to be a second lieutenant slicing up a quadrupedal beast monster on the interface before moving on to the next topic.
“Good! Now for the next one! If Warriors are your main enemies, then don’t rush in if you meet these unless you absolutely have to! These are Soldiers, the ranged infantry of monster armies!”
The four photos that appeared on the interface once again showed the monsters the instructor was describing.
There was a monster with a right arm shaped like a laser shooter, a monster with a biological weapon resembling a rocket launcher fixed to its shoulder, a monster armed with somewhat classical biological weapons like a shield and spear, and even a monster holding what looked like a machine gun with a proper shoulder stock, just like a human.
“A freshly graduated officer can never defeat them! Those things (Soldiers) gather together and act just like real soldiers!”
Their most distinctive characteristic is that they move exactly like real soldiers and demonstrate behavior focused thoroughly on ranged combat.
“Now, look! This is what makes them so frightening!”
The video footage that appeared with Instructor Batman’s words showed 12 Soldier-type monsters acting like a real special forces unit.
The scenes showed them entering a building tactically with different weapons, turning what appeared to be four second lieutenants into sieves with ranged firepower, and destroying a Federation standard tank with what seemed to be an anti-tank biological weapon.
Even the cadets were certain that if they, as mere low-level psychic users, were exposed to that firepower, they wouldn’t last long.
Well, that’s why Instructor Batman emphasized it multiple times.
These aren’t opponents for you to face—they should be handled by soldiers who can pour out massive firepower.
“Now! Let’s move on from infantry to full-fledged monsters—that is, medium-sized monsters and above!”
Having finished the introduction to Soldiers, as this was just a brief overview, Instructor Batman began talking about tank-class monsters, which could be considered the main force of monsters.
“They’re also called tank-class, but their official name is Monster! This refers to mid-level and higher monsters armed with the size and overwhelming defensive capabilities of armored weapons!”
As Instructor Batman explained about Monsters, photos of Monster-type creatures appeared on the interface without fail.
A reptilian monster resembling a komodo dragon tearing apart a soldier in powered armor with captain insignia, a turtle monster with plasma blasters on both shoulders.
In addition, there was a spider monster with a blaster resembling a howitzer on its back, and a monster that naturally formed a flat back to carry other smaller monsters.
It was an excellent visual representation of the four main categories of Monster-type creatures (close combat, ranged, artillery, and transport).
“To be honest, you don’t need to worry about these at your level! You’ll die if you encounter them anyway, so just study the countermeasures for future reference and run away if you can!”
Of course, the instructor’s subsequent explanation restored the cadets’ slightly elevated interest from the photos back to reality.
“For those morons who still don’t understand, let me tell you—these things are faster than you, have higher attack power than you, and you can’t even wound them at your level!”
It might seem harsh and excessive for talents carefully selected from across the galaxy, but this is precisely to prevent such talents from dying needlessly.
From the beginning, Federation Army second lieutenants, equivalent to Class 7 mercenaries, are primarily tasked with stopping Warrior-type monsters, the close combat infantry.
Direct field command of soldiers is handled by veterans who have been through everything and completed field command training—the non-commissioned officers. The basic doctrine is to eliminate Monster-type creatures with tanks or armored weapons.
Therefore, the standard practice for second lieutenants with little combat experience is to gain experience by stopping Warrior-type monsters while receiving fire support from soldiers and non-commissioned officers.
“So, if you meet one of these, all you can do is die or run away! You worms are just sprouts for now!”
Having determined that he needed to issue this warning even if it somewhat damaged the cadets’ pride, Instructor Batman shouted:
“Remember this! The number one cause of death for Federation Army second lieutenants deployed to the battlefield is being killed by Soldier types, and the second is dying to Monster types after recklessly showing off!”
There was also the considerate omission that the third leading cause of death was “fragging” (killing of superior officers) by non-commissioned officers, who could be considered veteran soldiers.
