Chapter 126. Passing the Bomb (3)
“It’s over there.”
A village of tightly packed tents stood where Lakye pointed.
This is Latria. The place where George’s raid party was annihilated by the Cloud Demon’s attack.
I’ve been here once when moving the Sky Tree tribe to Volbano where the Golden Sun tribe was located.
Back then, I saw the monument that MeleeSpy had built to honor George’s raid party.
Well, it was still the same wasteland as before. The only difference was this small village now visible before us.
A group of survivors had settled here and unfortunately became worshippers after encountering a mid-level demon.
Grrrr…
That giant sloth basking in the warm sunlight under the protection of its worshippers is our target, the mid-level demon.
I don’t know why it came all the way to this wasteland instead of a city to gather worshippers, without even a single lower demon subordinate.
Perhaps it was pushed out in a power struggle? Maybe a stronger mid-level demon appeared and forced it out. That’s my guess anyway.
The demon ecosystem is still a mystery. Since they’re creatures created by high-level demons, they might not even have an ecosystem.
– Looks like we just need to catch that one.
A few one-eyed flying demons were patrolling as lookouts, but that was about it.
“I’ll finish this quickly.”
Lakye clenched his fist and leaped into enemy territory. Since I told him not to kill it, he didn’t draw his sword.
“En-emy!”
“Kill, them!”
The demon worshippers charged at us with shovels, hoes, and harvesting sickles. Of course, one punch from Lakye was enough to cave in their faces and send them flying.
Koo?
The sloth demon that had been sleeping while rubbing its belly woke up with wide eyes.
It stood up to its full height of about 5 meters, but it wasn’t particularly imposing.
Both Lakye and I had been through too much to feel threatened by just a large beast.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Legs. Stomach. Head.
Three hits. Just three hits were enough to neutralize the sloth as it charged at us in attack position.
Kuaaa!
The sloth, seemingly furious, glared at us and tried to cast a coordinate transmission spell, but my “Totem of Confusion” was faster.
Kyuat!
It let out a pathetic scream as blood gushed from its eyes, nose, and mouth.
Was a mid-level demon always this weak? It feels like just yesterday when I had to ride a totem golem and put on a show to catch one mid-level demon.
“So noisy.”
Bonk!
Lakye’s knuckle struck the struggling creature’s head. The sloth stuck out its tongue and fainted.
Subdued completely.
– There’s a cart over there. I’ll make the demon worshippers transport it.
“…May I try it once?”
Lakye asked cautiously, apparently wanting to try controlling zombies.
– I don’t mind.
“Thank you.”
Lakye grinned and stretched his hand toward the demon worshippers he had killed with his punches.
“Uhhh…”
The creatures slowly rose, turned their heads a few times, and then sat back down.
“It’s not working well.”
Lakye watched the crawling zombies with a disappointed expression.
– It requires a lot of practice. Let’s try again when we have the chance.
I spent quite a bit of time learning to control zombies too. Even if Lakye is a genius, he can’t master something like this right away.
Still, I appreciated his intention. Lakye knew I was exhausted after using blessings for 10 consecutive days, so he stepped up.
How thoughtful of him.
– And don’t worry. I’m just a little tired.
I raised the demon worshippers as zombies. Lakye loaded the unconscious sloth demon onto the cart, and the zombies under my command pulled it.
…Ah. This is too much. Saying I’m “a little tired” was a complete lie. I’m fucking exhausted.
Using the Totem of Confusion was the final straw. It suddenly drained all my energy.
Having to scrape the bottom of my mental strength makes this unbearable. I think I need to pass out for a while.
– I’m going to rest for a bit. Call me if anything happens.
“Yes.”
I gave the zombies only one command—”follow Lakye”—and closed my eyes.
I’ll need to use “Divine Summon” to transport Lakye after everything is done, so recharging now is the right move.
It’s been a while since I checked the community.
Should I take a quick look?
As soon as I had that thought, I fell asleep.
What community? Sleep is the best medicine.
***
“Malak sir.”
I opened my eyes to Lakye’s calm voice. Wow, I really got some good rest. The sky was already getting dark.
At least 3-4 hours must have passed.
Lakye and the zombies pulling the cart were crouching down.
Wondering what was happening, I looked around. Zombies came into view.
– …!
I was so startled I almost screamed “Eek!” I thought Charon had discovered us.
But I calmed down when I saw the zombies standing still, just staring ahead.
Why are they like that? They don’t seem to be zombies controlled by Lakye.
“They’re outpost guards protecting the entrance to Dubenheim. They’ve been like this for the past five minutes.”
The ones visible weren’t all of them. Looking further, I could see quite a large zombie army of similar size.
The strange thing was that they were all just standing there, staring ahead. Not a single one turned its head.
As if they had been ordered to become totems.
– Seems like Charon hasn’t recovered his strength yet.
Charon invested everything in what he felt was his last chance to stop my Ghost King, but ultimately failed.
This is the price he’s paying.
He doesn’t even have the strength to move his petty zombie army, so he’s just placed them as guards and abandoned them?
Thinking about Charon suffering gives me a surge of energy.
That bastard, that’s what he gets for messing with me.
– Is there another way?
Still, it would be difficult to pass through here.
They’ll probably react if they see a living being or if they’re attacked first. Unless he’s a complete idiot, Charon would have given at least that much of an order.
“I was thinking we could go over that mountain. There are fewer zombies there.”
– Let’s proceed carefully.
Lakye and I moved forward, avoiding Charon’s army without being detected. It wasn’t a difficult task.
Ah, I left behind the zombies I was controlling because they were cumbersome and noisy. Now Lakye is carrying the cart by himself.
He even lifted it completely because the sound of rolling wheels was annoying.
With some free time, I connected to the community. There should be a lot of information piled up.
[MonkeyUncleBeliever: Real-time Paladin breakdown… I keep making eye contact with a girl lately
(Picture of a girl glancing in this direction)
Yes, it’s that young girl noona
It’s not just my imagination, we’ve been making eye contact a lot lately. When I’m teaching the “Mind of Nothingness” to the youngsters, she peeks out and watches.
It’s been a while, so I think her wariness has subsided somewhat. Should I try talking to her?
I don’t have any weird intentions. I just purely need a new conversation partner.
I have principles too. I’m not trying to do anything with a teenage girl. She looks even younger because she’s so skinny, but still.
…But I just got my ID card not long ago. So it’s okay, right?
No rebuttals accepted. That’s all.]
[IriNam: I was dragged here while gaming;;
My character has 89 defense, status immunity, teleportation, stealth⚠, and health recovery♥.
It has 80% movement speed increase⛸, and the cooldown is only 3 seconds, and the stat❓ is 20, and w even resets cooldown when teleporting, and the ultimate adds health percentage damage+, and the more attack speed you increase, the ultimate cooldown keeps going 0.7 seconds+! And every time you use the ultimate, damage increases by 33% up to 3 stacks, and then Q has 90% attack power scaling so W benefits- AAAAHHH—]

[MeleeSpy: What game is this?]
[FullPlay: Snap out of it, if you don’t leave that cave after 72 hours, you’re in big trouble;;]
Information? What information? Just a pile of garbage posts. Nothing has changed here.
There were a few posts asking what happened during the battle between the giant god and the stingray demon, but that was it.
Besides that, there was just a promotional post about the tribal alliance written by Noah and Siwoo.
I just replied to Hannah’s message and closed it.
– Let’s do it here.
We were about halfway up the mountain.
I think we’ve gone deep enough. If we go any further, we’ll be discovered.
It’s about time to wake up the sloth and “ask” it to transmit coordinates.
“Yes.”
Slap!
Lakye struck the cheek of the sloth demon, which was tightly bound with iron chains.
The demon, who had been in dreamland longer than me, opened its bloodshot eyes and howled. Or rather, tried to howl.
Lakye had sealed its mouth well, so no sound escaped.
Click.
Lakye released it. The sloth jumped back and started the coordinate transmission again.
Kuaaaa-!
It was comical watching it scramble away on all fours, as if determined not to be caught this time.
Going far? Even better. Go all the way to the center of Charon’s territory for all I care.
“Uohhh…!”
The zombies who saw the sloth descending the mountain sprang into action. As expected, their eyesight works well.
Charon didn’t seem to be controlling them directly; they appeared to be moving according to programmed commands.
Since they’re just worshipper zombies, they’ll have a hard time catching a mid-level demon.
This feels good.
“Shall we stay and watch until the Cloud Demon arrives?”
Lakye grinned. It was a confident, handsome smile.
– Let’s do that.
Charon. It’s been quite a persistent relationship. It’s been shitty, and let’s never meet again.
