[Compilation of WoA Plot Twists (SPOILER WARNING) – 51/04/02 update][319]
I’ve compiled all the plot twists so you don’t get blindsided while mindlessly grinding affection quests.
The level indicates how obscure the twist is, not how important it is to the story, so don’t misunderstand.
## lv1. The Student Council President’s Betrayal
I think everyone playing WoA knows about this hero bastard by now.
He does save your life up to three times when you’re in danger (which helps when farming traits), but it feels absolutely terrible when you’re expecting a chill healing game and get backstabbed instead.
[Student Council President’s Secret Secretary (censored).jpg]
But maybe it’s because of his GOAT looks and alpha male energy? He’s been a staple in BL content for those Twitter “enthusiasts” for years now, still paying for his karma.
## lv5. Giselle Phoenix’s Past
From here on, anyone who can’t handle sad stories probably cried at this episode.
Giselle, the bright troublemaker at the Academy.
But her true identity was revealed to be one of many backup bodies for the Phoenix, who enrolled at the Academy to fulfill her last wish of making friends before dying.
This silenced everyone who complained about her character being written like an idiot, and led to the game sweeping GOTY + Best Storytelling awards.
## lv10. Alphonse Schipott’s Swordsmanship
A hidden quest that was only revealed to the world by VTuber Mr. Y, a full year after WoA’s release.
If Giselle was pretending to be an idiot, Alphonse was just an actual idiot.
You need to complete over 20 side quests just to learn his sword technique, which is absolute garbage performance-wise, so literally no one cared.
But there’s one section where his defensive technique is useful:
(gif of Alphonse blocking Mephistopheles’ finishing move)
He perfectly blocks the final boss’s finishing move from a distance with zero damage!
It was a somewhat ridiculous setting, but it became a beacon of light for newbies struggling with the boss even on normal difficulty.
…
## lv444. Nocturne Nailink and Arsheria’s Forest
The protagonist is an elf, right? But why don’t other elves ever appear in the story?
So here they come. Ta-da!
An elf companion you meet as an enemy only in Nightmare mode.
Being a fellow elf, she handles the Laurel’s innate abilities quite well, and all her summoned dolls are random, making her a really tricky boss.
But here’s where Wearsoft’s twist comes in: there were no such things as elves, and all the long-eared humans were slaves sacrificed in the Empire’s experiments!
There were actually hints in the main story, so it wasn’t a forced setting.
For example, if you check the ledger of slaves you rescued from Valum Benaons’ study, they were all destined to be “skewered” in Arsheria’s Forest.
But this twist was overshadowed by later revelations, and Nocturne just became known for being cute.
## lv777. Daniel and Lepi 2
Why is this appearing again? Just shut up and listen.
In the main story, it was quite shocking to learn that Daniel was Lepi’s father.
But us story nerds wouldn’t leave it at that.
When age analysis revealed they were sixteen years apart, people went crazy, writing 5,700-character essays to the author about promoting inappropriate relationships and whatnot. It even made the 9 o’clock news several times.
But after Nightmare mode was released, all the foreshadowing was neatly tied up.
Daniel wasn’t Lepi’s father – Lepi was Daniel’s mother.
Lepi was an excommunicated former Holy Maiden who had been living happily in the countryside with Daniel, but after her husband died and she contracted an incurable disease, she eventually sought help from the Empire.
The Empire, under the pretext of healing her, pressured her to become a double agent, and Lepi successfully infiltrated the Papal State with her memories erased and under a polymorph spell.
That’s why despite the Empire traveling through Papal lands for 10 years to access the forest, no information about Yggdrasil ever leaked – all because of Daniel. The person they assigned as a monitor happened to be an Empire spy.
In the end, the Observer Daniel <- he’s also kind of the root of all evil.
## lv1000. Adella
Current WoA gallery queen, GOAT just by existing. The reason I wrote this post.
In the Nightmare world full of betrayal and backstabbing, she’s the only NPC who decides to sacrifice herself for the protagonist.
Unlike that cat from a certain game company, Adella kept her loyalty to the end, and I dare say there’s no one who’s seen the flashback scene during loading only once – if you’ve seen it at all, you’ve watched it multiple times.
Personally, I think Adella’s story best portrays the psychology of what an average person would feel when surrounded by geniuses.
## Bonus) Urgent update based on shocking information
The official theory was that the sacrifice Gestalt used to summon Mephistopheles in Part 4 = Adella.
(Video of “NyangsterCall’s VIP Lounge” revealed on NoName’s stream.mp4)
So she wasn’t average after all, but a genius…
## [Comments]
-I was wondering why a 5-year-old post suddenly became a featured post
└ The author is seriously dedicated lol
-Wait, Mephisto’s base was Adella?
└ I didn’t even know there was something called VIP Lounge, who is this person lol
└ There’s a high-tier user called NyangsterCall
└ Must be super rich… I’m jealous…
-The story is crazy complicated;; I skipped all dialogue when playing story mode so I didn’t know any of this
└ If that’s how you play, why play WoA instead of Resonance or LoL? lol
└ Not everyone in the world is a story nerd like you ^^
-Who’s NoName? Over 20k viewers for WoA? Never heard of them once in my life
└ Half the viewers are foreigners
└ Are you old? What era are you living in that you don’t count foreigners? lol
└ Even 10k Korean viewers alone would make them a major company
-Author, quickly check out NoName’s stream. They’re about to clear Part 3 with Adella.
└ (Author): What are you talking about? Adella definitely dies in Part 1
└ Go check it out
└ (Author): How is this possible? Is it a bug?
* * *
“Hey sis… sis?”
Adella, buried in her sleeping bag, turned her head at the call.
The back that seemed like a mountain during battle now looked like that of an ordinary girl.
Wondering if she was asleep, Adella got up to check and walked lightly to the other side.
The elf’s—no, the human’s—chest rose and fell irregularly.
‘She’s not asleep at all.’
When Adella deliberately squeezed into her sleeping bag, the woman’s eyes opened belatedly.
“Hello, kitty.”
“It’s Adella! A-DEL-LA! Shouldn’t you have memorized it by now?”
“Right, Adella. My memory isn’t very good.”
“Is this some kind of sleep talking?”
“I’m not sure.”
Adella puffed her cheeks.
Looking steadily into those calm, blinking eyes, she slowly began to speak.
“What you said yesterday… I can’t sleep because I’m too worried.”
“What did I say?”
“About Arsheria’s Forest. The things you suffered from the Empire people, the truth about Yggdrasil, the demon worshippers’ conspiracy, all that stuff…”
“I see.”
“Is that all you have to say? Tonight feels oddly bland.”
Adella seemed to shoot electricity from her eyes at the woman’s too-calm acceptance.
Hot emotions surged like waves until Adella finally exploded, kicking her legs and twisting her body inside the sleeping bag.
“That’s not how you’re supposed to react! You should either cry because you’re sad or grind your teeth because you’re angry! Don’t you feel anything? If we meet Daniel tomorrow, will you really just let him go without doing anything?”
Adella couldn’t understand the woman.
Daniel had been in the delegation, silently allowing the Empire’s massive experiment to continue.
He even destroyed messages secretly passed by elves whose brainwashing had worn off, pretending not to know. Adella couldn’t accept this.
The idea of letting him go when he deserved worse than death was unthinkable.
“It’s not my decision. I was able to come this far only thanks to the Angel.”
The woman referred to the being that possessed her body during the day as the “Angel.”
It was a concept familiar even to Adella, who knew little theology, as the opposite of demons.
“But to call it an angel seems a bit…”
Violent, perhaps… She couldn’t finish the thought, fearing the “Angel” might remember it.
Feeling her chest tighten, Adella took a deep breath.
The moisture and leaf scent unique to the dense forest tickled her nose.
“Then I’ll convince the Angel myself tomorrow. How’s that?”
Though scary, this person was also her lifesaver.
Someone who had saved her life sixteen times wouldn’t suddenly harm her now.
With renewed determination, Adella snorted.
“The Angel must be vegetarian…! Surely they wouldn’t eat people!”
“Pfft!”
“Huh? I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you laugh.”
“Oh really? I just thought you were a really funny kid.”
“Ahem…! You look really pretty when you laugh. I mean, you’re already pretty, but it’s like, super extra pretty?”
“Thanks for the compliment, Adella. But it’s getting stuffy, so could you go back to your own sleeping bag now? From what you said, we’ll have to fight a lot tomorrow. We should sleep early.”
Leaving behind her feelings of disappointment, the cat emerged from her cocoon and dragged her sleeping bag to lie down next to the woman.
“What kind of person is the Angel?”
Adella struggled with the sudden question for quite a while. What kind of person was NoName?
“Just… a good person without reason. That sounds weird, but while there are tons of reasons to like them, I think they’re a good person even without those reasons.”
“That sounds very Angel-like.”
“I like the daytime you, but I like the nighttime you too.”
“In what way?”
“Well, NoName sis, you know, when I tickle your armpit like this.”
“Eek!”
The woman flinched at the sudden tickle attack.
“You don’t react like this…!”
“I don’t during the day?”
“Then you’re always stoic. Like you don’t have any emotions.”
“I see. That’s interesting.”
“But you’re really considerate. Today I hurt my ear, and you disinfected the wound several times on our way here. And you carried all the heavy stuff because you said I shouldn’t sweat. I was too embarrassed to say thank you, but maybe you could pass it on for me?”
“Unfortunately…”
“It’s okay, we have plenty of time, tomorrow or the day after.”
“…”
“Hello…?”
*gentle snoring*
This time, regular breathing could be heard.
The woman’s golden hair flew in the breeze and landed on Adella’s face.
After sneezing, Adella buried her face in the sleeping bag.
Though physically more exhausting than ever, these days were mentally fulfilling.
Hoping tomorrow night would be the same… Adella’s eyes slowly closed as she licked her lips.
* * *
The next morning.
While using a shiny shoulder plate as a mirror to fix her messy hair, something curious came to mind and she called Adella’s name.
“By the way, I noticed something strange – why do you keep calling me ‘sis’? Didn’t you dislike using that term?”
“Ha! You told me to call you that! I was so dumbfounded.”
“I did? When?”
“Four nights ago… or I guess three nights ago at dawn since the date changed? Anyway, then! And yesterday too.”
“What else did I say then?”
“Th-that…! Ah, forget it! Are you deliberately teasing me now?”
I’m really asking because I don’t know.
She had never thought about it before. If the story is skipped, how do NPCs perceive themselves during that time?
Like wondering what Pokémon do inside their Poké Balls – information that perhaps shouldn’t be known kept tempting her curiosity.
Adella was too busy cooling her tomato-red face.
Come to think of it, how long has it been since someone called me “sis”? Actually, it happened recently.
In my first life, I was a man, so naturally it never happened.
In my second life, although born female, I was a princess, so I was usually called by my title rather than name. Even that changed to epithets from my late teens.
Thinking about my third life, cute little Aurora comes to mind. I wonder what she’s doing now. I should contact her when the game ends.
But this body supposedly reflected my sixteen-year-old self at the time, so it was disappointing that Adella perceived me as older without any discomfort.
Was I really that mature-looking?
Adella does look young for her age, I suppose.
After walking along the reed-filled riverbank for a while, a large gate welcomed us.
On either side of the gate were statues of angels blowing trumpets toward the sky.
Weathered by wind, the statues had cracks all over, and through those gaps, colors different from the white plaster showed through.
*creeeeak*
The gate opened by itself with a scraping sound as soon as I touched it.
Suddenly, the statues’ eyes looked in our direction, and the trumpets they were holding fell to the ground and shattered.
“Eeeeeek!”
Adella’s fur stood on end as she clung to me.
“Don’t be scared, they’re just statues.”
“I-I’m not scared! I know they’re just statues!”
But before we could be startled, lasers shot out from the statues’ eyes.
“Those aren’t just statues!”
Eventually, the outer surfaces of the sculptures all fell away, and bat wings emerged.
[Fallen Angel · Sariel of Death (0/1)]
[Fallen Angel · Ramiel of Illusion (0/1)]
The fallen angels, each with only one wing, walked through the air.
The one with the left wing was Sariel, and the one with the right wing was Ramiel.
I wondered if they should flap their wings upward like helicopters to maintain balance when flying, but that idle thought disappeared cleanly as the battle began.
Suddenly becoming bold, Adella stepped forward and pointed at the statues.
“You’re not scary at all! We have a real Angel with us!”
“What angel? Who?”
Did Adella have some special summoning ability I didn’t know about? I’m sure I checked the wiki thoroughly.
“You, of course!”
“Me?”
I immediately questioned this nonsense, pointing at myself to confirm.
