Ch.117117 – Resolution Arc 3

    # 117 – Answer Chapter #3

    “That’s the chairman’s twin?”

Mrs. Danvers said the monster who dismembered people and killed them in horrific ways was the chairman’s twin brother, “Cheon Taegeon.”

I already knew the chairman had a twin, and I’d even been told I might meet him someday, but I never expected it would be now.

“Long ago, there were twins in the Cheon family. There was a shy, ordinary older brother and a cheerful, talented younger brother. The two were very close. Until the terrible incident happened…”

“No, forget that! How can we really get rid of him? Can’t we burn him or shoot him?”

What if that thing escapes again and kills us all?

I don’t have many points left, so I can only wind the clock a few more times!

I was practically begging when I said this.

    The housekeeper sighed deeply.

“Rotten as he may be, he’s still a Cheon. Without the chairman’s permission, we cannot kill or harm the young master. But the chairman will never harm his brother.”

    This can’t be!

We all have to die because the chairman cherishes that crazy twin monster as his brother?

    I couldn’t stand it.

We’ve literally died several times already.

    Swish.

Just then, Mrs. Danvers rubbed my face vigorously with her palm.

It felt almost like some kind of ritual.

“If you can take responsibility, I’ll help you kill it.”

    “Responsibility?”

Was I going to be charged with murder?

    I couldn’t help feeling a little scared.

After all, I was just a first-year high school student on summer vacation.

I was closer to the age of throwing tantrums than taking responsibility.

“Whatever, we can just rewind if we lose!”

    I gritted my teeth.

I was prepared to do anything if it meant we could all survive.

And if necessary, I could always choose to turn back time.

In other words, I could extract information from Mrs. Danvers, see how to defeat the creature, then rewind time and irresponsibly avoid taking responsibility.

“I hope you won’t regret it.”

Mrs. Danvers rang the bell attached to the first floor.

Soon the housekeeper sisters quickly emerged, and Mrs. Danvers said to them:

    “Let’s go to Warehouse F.”

    “There?”

    “Are we hunting wild boars?”

“There have been wild boars around the mansion these past few days.”

We all headed to “Warehouse F.”

In one corner of this mansion, there were containers and warehouses built all over, and “Warehouse F” was one of them.

When we opened the door of Warehouse F, which was very securely locked with sturdy, thick chains and padlocks, we saw various guns inside.

“It’s like a police armory. Hunting rifles are supposed to be kept at the police station. But I guess for the chairman’s mansion… that’s not necessary.”

    Jeongseok’s eyes sparkled with interest.

It was my first time seeing real guns too, so I was a bit curious.

    Click-clack.

Mrs. Danvers picked up a hunting rifle with practiced skill.

She also gathered ammunition from a rectangular box.

The sisters also took out hunting rifles with familiarity.

    Housekeepers armed with guns.

I couldn’t believe that something that would only happen in my fantasies was becoming reality.

    It was surreal.

    “Give us some too!”

I shouted, pointing at my friends.

Of course, Mrs. Danvers firmly refused.

“No. This isn’t a toy for kids to handle carelessly.”

“That’s right. You kids stay inside.”

“Have you ever eaten wild boar?”

“I don’t like it, it has a strong smell.”

It was quite disappointing that we couldn’t handle guns.

But having the sisters and Mrs. Danvers well-armed made me feel quite safe.

    Mrs. Danvers said:

“Let’s wait until 10 PM. That thing usually moves after 10.”

There was a rule in this mansion that we shouldn’t go downstairs after 10 PM.

From this conversation, I could now understand why such a rule existed.

Were they letting that horrible monster loose in the mansion after 10 PM?

    It was completely insane.

It was amazing that no accidents had happened until now.

No, I wondered if accidents really hadn’t happened.

With a chairman who whips even the CEO of a major corporation like a servant, he might have made it seem like nothing happened even if something did occur.

    Tick, tick, tick.

Ding dong ding dong ding dong.

The clock on the first floor struck 10 PM.

    “You kids go upstairs.”

Mrs. Danvers made us go upstairs.

We went up to Yu Dahui’s room.

“I still can’t believe it when I think about it. Rewinding time with points, and we’ve already died several times. But with guns, they should be able to kill that monster, right? It’s human, not a ghost, right?”

    Jeongseok rambled on, seemingly nervous.

    In fact, everyone was tense.

    BANG!

We heard a noise so loud we’d never heard anything like it before.

We all jumped in surprise, and Kwon Sua even fell backward.

    “Mom!”

    BANG!

    BAAAAANG!

Loud noises continued one after another, and there was also a strange smell I’d never encountered before. That’s when I first learned what gunpowder smelled like.

    BANG!

    BANG!

The continuous gunshots, like thunder striking from a clear sky, suddenly stopped at some point.

    “Is it over?”

Yang Juhui, who had been covering her ears, asked cautiously.

Of course, we had no way to answer such a question.

    Yu Dahui said:

“Juhui, when people say things like that in novels, something unfortunate usually happens.”

    “What did I do!”

Even in this situation, Yang Juhui and Yu Dahui were bickering. Seeing that made me relax a little too. I got up from my seat and suggested to my friends:

    “Should we go check?”

If it was human, it must be dead by now.

    But Jeongseok shook his head.

“There were multiple gunshots. I heard at least nine. If they fired a gun that can take down bears nine times, it means it was that difficult to kill. It’s more likely that… Mrs. Danvers and the housekeeper sisters might have been attacked.”

    It was an ominous statement.

But thinking about it, it made sense.

Nine shots from a gun that could kill bears.

Whatever it was, we needed to check.

    “I’ll go.”

    Swish.

The brave Yang Juhui stood up.

    We decided to follow her.

It seemed dangerous for her to be alone.

When we went down to the first floor,

We discovered the sisters cruelly scattered across the floor.

They were dead as if a child had grabbed cicadas and torn them apart with pure malice. I had to turn my eyes away from the horrific scene and felt utterly defeated.

“…Shit, so even guns don’t work?”

    Monster bastard.

    Grrrrrr.

    Eyes glinted in the darkness.

Soon, a hairy creature covered in blood emerged from an empty room. In its right hand was Mrs. Danvers’ head.

What was strange was that all the fingers on that right hand except the thumb and index finger were twisted and broken in a bizarre way.

Did it get injured in the fight? Can it be hurt?

    “Eek!”

Kwon Sua collapsed to the ground.

Soon the pitch-black monster rushed toward us and grabbed Jeongseok’s head.

    “Ahhh!”

Jeongseok let out a scream and died as his head was split open like a watermelon.

    Splat.

My friend’s brains splattered everywhere, covering my clothes.

“Hey! Run! Ha Yeongwon! You run! You need to stay alive, right?”

Yang Juhui shouted as she picked up a gun that had fallen to the floor.

    Click-click.

But Yang Juhui didn’t know how to shoot.

    “Damn it!”

The monster reached out to grab Yang Juhui, but she was dodging here and there using her quick legs.

The monster ran on all fours like a beast, not a human. Its movement was so bizarre and alien that I wanted to look away.

    “AAAAAAHHH!”

Eventually caught, Yang Juhui had her neck bitten.

    Blood spurted like a fountain.

    I squeezed my eyes shut.

    Click, flash!

“Miss Sua, you were going to say it’s been a while since you took photos with friends, right?”

    “Huh? How did you know?”

    I’m back.

『”The Broken Clock” rewinds its spring.』

    『100P consumed.』

    『Remaining points: 224』

    Remaining points: 224.

Points were running low, but we still couldn’t find a way to defeat that monster. I explained what had just happened to everyone.

    This was becoming routine now.

In terms of time, we’d been in this mansion for about 4 days already.

“How do we catch something that even guns can’t handle?”

Jeongseok clicked his tongue with a slightly disgusted expression.

This was all too cruel for us who were just high school students.

    That’s when Yu Dahui spoke:

“Maybe our approach was wrong? If we find out how the chairman’s brother became such a monster, we might discover a way to defeat it. Let’s look at the essence of the problem. Everything has a cause.”

    It seemed reasonable.

But in the previous iteration, Mrs. Danvers didn’t tell us why Cheon Taegeon became like that.

No matter how much I insisted or threw tantrums, even if she died, she didn’t seem like she would tell us.

Yu Dahui clenched her fist and shouted:

“Let’s raid the chairman’s study. We might find something. The problem is that while we’re searching the study, that monster might attack Mrs. Danvers and the sisters inside the mansion…”

If even one person died, it would be as good as our defeat.

“I think I can handle that! I can ask Mrs. Danvers and the sisters to come back late in the evening. We went to the market together before and came back really late. We can do the same today.”

Great, then we’ll leave that to Yu Dahui.

We decided to infiltrate the study through the space behind the bathroom mirror.

    Crash!

When we broke the mirror, the space behind it appeared.

“There really was a space behind it. This kind of thing is usually planned during the construction phase.”

    Jeongseok marveled.

I was also impressed that Jeongseok had similar observations as before.

    Step, step.

After walking for about 5 minutes, we were able to infiltrate the chairman’s study.

And there we decided to gather as much information as possible.

“Give me any books you find.”

    Rustle, rustle.

Jeongseok opened a book and flipped through the pages rapidly.

It looked like he was playing around, but he said it was speed reading.

Then Jeongseok picked up a book.

“This is it. A diary. Cheon Taegeon’s diary.”

    Cheon Taegeon, that monster?

We all opened the diary together.

And there we could confirm quite a surprising story.

“Ah-yeon was a woman full of life. Both I and Daegon naturally came to like her, as spring gives way to summer.”

“Ah-yeon treated us brothers the same, but I could detect traces of affection in her eyes when she looked at Daegon.”

“Ah-yeon and Daegon bought a strange object from the market. My younger brother Daegon said: ‘Brother, you like collecting gloomy antiques. This is your birthday present that Ah-yeon and I chose. They say if you make a wish on it, it grants your wish.'”

“It was an arm, whether from a beast or human I couldn’t tell. It had six fingers and was twisted like a mummy, dried and skeletal. But despite its unsightly appearance, no matter how much force I applied, I couldn’t bend or break the fingers.”
