Ch.113Chapter 113. Armchair Chosen One (5)

    Chapter 113. Room-Bound Chosen One (5)

Lakye quickly killed two mid-level enemies and subdued the Reptilians. They might be called mid-level, but they were as pathetic as the three-headed demons we fought before.

Well, they might have become weaker as zombies. Without Charon’s support, they’d naturally be weaker than usual.

    Crack!

I immediately destroyed the ritual device. I couldn’t risk taking or leaving behind something that Charon might have enchanted.

A zombie controller made by the greatest priest in history… honestly, it felt a bit wasteful to destroy it, but safety comes first.

    “W-what’s this!”

    “We’re under attack!”

Ah, we hadn’t caught them all. The ones we captured were just scouts, and the main force was elsewhere. There were quite a few of them. No need to capture them all in this case.

    – You can kill them. Just don’t get hurt.

These were the ones who attacked the cathedral and killed people. No reason to show mercy.

Besides, just working with that bastard Charon is enough reason for execution.

“That woman, shoot that woman! The one with fire in her hands!”

    “Kill the fire-fist!”

Lakye, who had somehow earned the nickname “fire-fist,” was sweeping through enemies with incredible mobility.

    “She’s too fast to hit!”

“There’s a fucking eagle up there too! It’s huge!”

    “It’s not an eagle, it’s a pigeon!”

    “Kyaaak!”

Paya and Chunky were turning enemies into porcupines with their razor-sharp feathers.

“Why is there a paladin here…!”

“The people inside the cathedral must have called for help!”

“We’re facing a possessed! A possessed! Watch out for their skills!”

Noah was busy blocking enemy attacks with his tank-like sturdiness.

    “Holy Shield!”

His combat endurance seemed better than before. He must have used skills more than ten times but still wasn’t tired.

    “Graawr-!”

Some tried to engage in hand-to-hand combat after removing their helmets. Looking closely, they didn’t seem to be complete lizardmen.

It was more like they were taking human form and then transforming into lizards.

These Reptilians are fighting hard even after seeing Lakye’s power. If it were me, I’d throw down my weapons and surrender hoping for mercy, or just run away immediately.

They’re a well-disciplined force. Even more so than the “Demon Hunters” who recently joined our tribal federation.

“The kid riding the monster bird… target that brat first! He seems like a normal person except for controlling the bird!”

Oh, perceptive. But it doesn’t matter.

    “Chunky! Up!”

    Kweeek-!

Their harpoon guns couldn’t reach Chunky flying high above.

I created a cloud above the head of the one who ordered to shoot Paya.

    Zzzap!

    “Argh!”

The electrocuted enemy fell to the ground, his body trembling. Serves him right.

[Malak’s Domain (Intermediate): Summons rain that weakens enemies. Enemies suffer status effects such as anxiety, chills, and slowness. Occasionally can strike lightning.]

It didn’t cost many points, so I upgraded it to intermediate level. The ability to strike lightning was added.

This is my first offensive blessing. Unlike the Totem of Confusion that inflicts status effects, this one deals direct damage.

The damage is decent. Humans would be affected, but mid-level demons and above would probably still move after being hit.

Still, it’s excellent for creating fear.

    “Rain… it’s raining.”

    “Did lightning just strike?”

    “What are these guys…?”

See? The enemies who saw the lightning are slowly backing away. Weather phenomena are something all humans naturally fear.

    – Let’s wrap this up.

    “The, the statue is talking?!”

Maybe in the early days of our tribal federation this would have been concerning, but for us who had defeated various enemies from gorillas to tunnelers, three-headed demons, and shadow demons, this organization wasn’t very threatening.

“The, the reinforcements were supposed to arrive in two days…!”

The enemies resisted using zombies and unusual weapons, but they were utterly defeated by a demi-god, a spirit master, and a paladin who had invested everything in defense because he hated getting hurt.

I feel strangely proud even though I didn’t fight directly. I probably wouldn’t feel this good even if I had fought myself.

I think I understand why people play collection-based mobile games. This must be why my friend spent real money to get equipment and skins for cute female characters in games.

He used to set his game to auto-battle and just stare at his character with a stupid grin. Thinking about him now makes me miss him.

Ah, I might get homesick at this rate. Better stop thinking about it. There’s a reason possessed people avoid talking about Earth in the community.

“Huff, huff… Since this power is new, I’m not used to it yet.”

Lakye, who had just killed the last fleeing Reptilian, exhaled heavily and crouched down. The flames on her fists had already subsided.

To think that even Lakye with her monstrous stamina would get tired… I guess great performance comes with penalties.

    – Well done. Take a rest.

It’s a natural result after quickly killing three mid-level demons without rest. It would be too overpowered if she could maintain this indefinitely.

With the power of her Potential Punch and the sharpness of the Meteor Sword, she might even be able to kill one of the weaker high-level demons.

I left Paya and Noah to deal with the remaining zombies and went with Lakye toward where we had captured prisoners.

“Who are you people? Why are you attacking cathedrals?”

Lakye asked the Reptilian who appeared to be the leader. We had removed his helmet immediately after capturing him. He must be the leader since he was actively commanding from the back.

He’s the one who ordered to kill Paya and got struck by my lightning.

    “…”

    “Don’t want to talk?”

    Shing-

Lakye slowly drew her Meteor Sword.

    “…!”

The sight must have been quite threatening, as the Reptilians behind him trembled. Lakye is certainly good at setting the mood.

Perhaps it’s due to her beautiful yet strangely chilling face and aura.

    “Lord Malak.”

    – I permit it.

I knew what Lakye was going to say. She was probably asking if it was okay to kill a few and torture them for information.

I’m just grateful. I’m not good at this sort of thing. Well, I’ve never done it before.

“Looking again, there are too many mouths here. Need to reduce them.”

Lakye started cutting without a moment’s hesitation.

    “Aaaagh!”

    “Kyaaaah!”

I know this is necessary and there’s no other way. Still, the part of me that lived as a 21st-century Earth human for over 20 years finds it hard to bear.

Killing in battle is one thing, but torture is difficult to watch.

It was even more unpleasant because they weren’t just lizard monsters, but creatures with both human and lizard features.

“…Would you like to shift your consciousness elsewhere-“

Lakye, who had been glancing at me with concern, asked.

    – Don’t mind me and continue. I’m just not used to it.

I had to watch. I couldn’t keep turning away just because it was uncomfortable. Lakye may have carried it out, but I was the one who gave permission.

I endured while thinking absurd thoughts like, “Maybe I am somewhat god-like for having these thoughts?”

    “The… Evolution School… we’re soldiers of the Evolution School…”

One of the Reptilians, unable to withstand the intense torture, finally spoke.

The Evolution School. The ones who created the artificial demon that AtomicRex possessed, and who conducted enhanced soldier experiments at the Imperial Arena where the tunnel demon had established its base.

I thought they were suspicious, and now we’ve finally met them as enemies.

“Are you working with the necromancer Charon?”

    “Yes.”

“Why do you look like this?”

    “There’s a… New Humanity Project…”

They mixed genes that adapt to extreme situations to survive the apocalypse, and the result was Reptilians.

I noticed they had something like gills too. Some kind of chimera?

Everyone belonging to the Evolution School is a Reptilian. The leaders received better procedures and maintain human form.

“Why did you attack the cathedral?”

    “…!”

That seemed difficult for him to answer.

    “Can’t tell me?”

Sighing, Lakye picked up a dagger lying on the floor. It had been used a lot earlier, so the blade was somewhat dull.

And so the second “session” began. This time I turned my gaze away.

I’m really glad I sent Paya and Noah elsewhere.

“I’ll, I’ll talk. I’ll tell you, so please make it quick at least…”

The tight-lipped Reptilian leader finally begged for mercy.

    “Go ahead.”

“I don’t know exactly. Only the leaders know that. My orders were that they would tell us where the Goddess Church remnants were hiding, and we were to find a blind nun there.”

    “A blind nun?”

“We were told to kill everyone except that nun. That’s all I know.”

He didn’t seem to know that the Pope was among those they had attacked.

The Reptilian leader shared several other pieces of information, but nothing particularly helpful.

“What should we do with them?”

    – Put them out of their misery.

Killing them was an act of mercy considering what they’d been through. Lakye… you’re surprisingly good at torture. Maybe because you always show me your kind and cute side, this feels a bit unfamiliar.

    Lakye’s cleanup was quick.

    – Let’s go see the paladin and Pope who requested help.

I wonder what kind of person the Pope is. If they need to cast barriers to escape from these guys, they probably don’t have much personal combat power.
