Chapter 112. Room-Corner Chosen One (4)
‘Bramanda’ and ‘IThoughtICouldTrustTheMonkeyMan’ posted updates. They were the ones who previously shared their problems and received attention from many users.
[Bramanda: I decided to keep the mice as pets
How full could my stomach get from eating a few small creatures anyway?
I’m just going to raise them. These little friends eating some nuts won’t stop me from having my own meals.
And, like UltraSansMadWithMoonlightMassacreMode commented, they might be useful?
If enemies come to my base, they’ll squeak warnings.
Even if not, well, they help heal my heart.

For sure, thanks to these tiny roommates, I don’t think I’ll be lonely anymore.
Living day by day in a meaningless existence, I’m finding a bit of motivation now]
[IThoughtICouldTrustTheMonkeyMan: Real-time update… cave paladin issue successfully resolved
I won over the kid…
The child kept glancing at me. I wondered what was up, then later he quietly approached me.
Asked if he could see my sword just once. Said he wanted to touch the holy sword that paladins use.
I thought maybe the parents were using this kid to disarm me, but then I thought, nah, they wouldn’t go that far, so I let him touch it briefly.
He loved it. Then he asked if I’d killed many demons.
Hell yeah I have! I spun him a long tale of heroism. Fought demons 18-to-1 and won. Killed hundreds of cultists with a single strike… just complete bullshit really.
What demons am I fighting lol. Even running from cultists is hard enough.
I tried raiding a village once and nearly died. Never knew low-level followers could be so strong.
Anyway, maybe because he’s a boy, he really loved it. I felt bad for lying so much.
He thought for a moment and asked, “Paladin mister, you fight to defeat demons and protect us, right?”
That’s when I got the feeling. A feeling that answering “yes” would work out well.
I immediately put on a solemn expression and said, “That’s right. I became a paladin to protect this world’s order, balance, and people who are suffering.”
The kid nodded with a completely starstruck expression lol. He was definitely hit with a lethal dose of paladin admiration.
From the next day, the father stopped giving me hints to leave.
He probably didn’t believe everything his son said, but his attitude toward me definitely improved.
If I can go hunt some infected creatures and score some points, living together might not be impossible?
Anyway, that’s the end of my post. Writing long posts is such a pain…

Here’s a kid pic for you all, bye
I asked him to make a fist and smile pose but he didn’t understand lol
Kid punch, too precious~]
Checking the community from atop Tuntuni, this is how things ended. Well, not ended, but both seemed to have found their own solutions.
I feel satisfied without realizing it, liking the direction things took.
Right. Just because it’s the apocalypse doesn’t mean every story has to end with death, violence, and tragedy.
Not all humans become cruel when pushed to extreme situations. That’s just how novels, comics, and movies portray things for dramatic effect.
…Maybe that’s just what I want to believe.
“We’re almost there.”
At Lakye’s words, I closed the community page and looked down at the ground below. Seeing it from the sky, I couldn’t make out much.
Just dots that looked like houses, trees, and mountains? With everything whizzing by, it was hard to zoom in or out.
Well, Lakye had been studying the map diligently, so he must be right.
“We’ve arrived at the area with the cathedral. Since we don’t know what might happen, I think we should proceed on foot.”
– Let’s do that.
Our group dismounted from Tuntuni and started walking. I dismissed Tuntuni.
An area occupied by demon hordes. How many lower demons and how many mid-level ones?
I just hope there are no high-ranking demons. Lakye has gained new powers and become much stronger, but I’m still not sure if he can handle high-ranking ones.
“I sense presences.”
At Lakye’s words, Paya and Noah’s footsteps grew quieter. Their cautious movements reminded me of cats with raised fur.
“There they are.”
Lakye, who was leading the way, stopped. Monsters were visible a short distance away.
They were variously shaped like ostriches, badgers, and other creatures, but all had red eyes.
“Charon’s soldiers.”
Hah, so it was Charon after all. I suspected as much, and my suspicions were confirmed.
Why is this bastard causing trouble all the way down here from Dubenheim?
They’re standing around blankly, so they don’t seem to be zombies directly controlled by Charon.
Has he already conquered all the northern lands? This quickly? What does he want with the Pope?
While I was having these ominous thoughts:
“Malak sir.”
Lakye called me cautiously.
“I hear voices. Human voices.”
What? Let me concentrate.
As a totem, I can hear surrounding sounds more clearly if I focus well, just like zooming in or out visually.
“…so I’m saying.”
It’s true. It can’t be the Room-Corner Chosen One or the Pope. Were there other survivors?
“We just need to wait a few days, right? There’s no sign of it being lifted.”
“Even divine power isn’t omnipotent. Those in heaven always demand payment. Life force, mental strength, talent, things like that. Such things are meant to be consumed.”
“Hah, so we wait for reinforcements?”
“Let’s do that. Just having our guys stationed here is threatening enough to them. Team 3 lost two men trying to enter the cathedral. That’s what happens when you force your way in without zombie army support.”
“Was it a cathedral concealed by magic? I’m more surprised it hasn’t been discovered by demons until now. These religious folks have something special about them.”
“Survival means strength. We must never let our guard down.”
…These people, their conversation seems strange.
I asked Lakye where these people were talking.
“Near the zombified cultists and demons. …From the context, they seem to be working together.”
This situation is turning strange?
After a moment’s thought, I came up with a hypothesis.
There’s a survivor faction cooperating with Charon. Purpose and reason still unknown.
– Leave the zombies to Paya and Noah, and capture these guys.
We’ll find out soon enough. From what I heard, neither Charon nor any high-ranking demons seem to be nearby.
That just leaves Lakye’s rampage.
Swoosh!
Lakye, who had been hiding behind a dilapidated wooden house, moved like lightning.
Running straight toward the direction of the voices like a predator.
Crunch!
Lakye jumped high, bypassing the zombies that tried to block his path, and landed where the people were talking.
There were twelve people wearing what looked like firefighter suits. They even wore safety helmets that completely covered their faces.
These guys look extremely suspicious.
“Wh-what?”
“Enemy! Enemy! Att-ack!”
Lakye’s fist was faster than the front man could finish shouting “Attack!” The man’s stomach area caved in, and he flew like a bowling pin hit by a ball.
Is he dead?
“Damn it!”
“Where are the zombies? The zombies?”
The surprised men were in disarray from the sudden attack.
“Tuntuni! Shoot!”
“Light Protection!”
Paya and Noah are handling the zombies. There are quite a few cultists and lower demons, so we need to subdue these guys quickly and go help them.
With flying Tuntuni and Noah’s protection skill, they should be able to hold out for a few minutes easily.
“It’s just one person! Kill him!”
After about four of them were subdued, the rest regained their composure and attempted to counterattack.
Some drew knives, while others quickly pulled out gun-like objects. With a whooshing sound, harpoon-like metal pieces were fired.
Some kind of otherworld harpoon gun? These guys have good technology.
Lakye easily caught the harpoon and threw it back at the shooter.
“Graaah!”
One of them removed his helmet and charged at Lakye. Inside the helmet was the head of a reptilian.
A lizard human. Well, it wasn’t that shocking. I had suspected something was off when they were talking about teams and cathedrals.
Probably a bit tougher and faster than humans. Being reptilian, they likely have high regeneration too.
Doesn’t matter.
Thwack!
“Gaaak!”
It’s just a lizardman like those commonly found in fantasy novels.
That level can’t defeat a demigod.
“That! Use that! Call the mid-level!”
“Tch!”
One of them took out a strange device that looked like it could be used for sorcery and shook it. Is that some kind of zombie controller borrowed from Charon? They have all sorts of things.
Kuooo!
Mid-level demon zombies rushed toward Lakye. They must have been waiting nearby.
Her fist, glowing with yellow light, struck the head of the one in front.
Kik…!
The mid-level zombie demon collapsed from one nuclear forehead flick. Yellow light scattered everywhere.
“Im-impossible!”
The firefighter-suited men were shocked.
Potential Punch. She is… a demigod.
