    Ch.105105. The New Continent (2)

One of the countless reptilian magical beasts living in the jungles of the southern New Continent.

This magical beast, resembling a dinosaur called Parasaurolophus that inhabited Earth in ancient times, was classified as a mid-tier magical beast like many others in the jungle.

Though omnivorous, consuming both plants and meat without discrimination, the reality is that survival in this harsh primeval jungle is difficult regardless of one’s dietary habits.

Since the average magical beast in this ecosystem is mid-tier, engaging in life-or-death battles was essential if one wanted to taste meat. Even the plants in this primeval jungle aren’t docile enough to be consumed without resistance.

Toxicity is practically a given. In more than half the cases, plants writhe and attack on their own.

Of course, among these magical plants, there are plenty that can match mid-tier magical beasts in power.

In this primeval jungle governed by the law of survival of the fittest, any magical beast that had survived until now naturally possessed the appropriate strength and resilience…

    [—Kheung!]

Toward such a magical beast, a large creature charged.

Of course, while the creature was large, that was only by relative standards.

Objectively comparing the sizes of the magical beast and the creature, the magical beast—inheriting the bloodline of ancient beings—was naturally far more massive and majestic.

Therefore, though initially startled, the magical beast soon regained its composure and attempted to kill the “enemy” before it—smaller in size yet ridiculously baring its teeth.

On the back of the magical beast’s head grew a curved crest about 1 meter long, and this hollow crest was none other than the beast’s weapon.

When magical power is pushed into the hollow tube, it combines with a special life energy inside, ultimately transforming into a weapon that fires sound waves infused with magical power.

This sonic weapon isn’t merely loud noise, of course.

With magical power as its driving force and foundation, the sound waves themselves possess power, demonstrating remarkable destructive capability that can strip flesh from bone.

The formidable destructive power of the magical beast’s sound waves is almost unbelievable for what appears to be mere sound.

When hit by these sound waves, those unable to withstand them have their bones pulverized and their blood instantly boiled and evaporated.

Naturally, in this process, flesh separated from bone becomes like finely ground meat, and weaker life forms literally vanish without a trace.

The destructive power of these sound waves applies equally to inanimate objects. It can completely shatter rock faces into powder and instantly crumple heavy armor into scrap metal.

Thus, the magical beast had prepared to unleash its most powerful weapon, the sound wave, but…

    [Reverse it!]

    “……..?!!”

Even this magical beast, which had survived numerous life-threatening situations, couldn’t predict the surprise attack that came just before it could launch its own.

The moment a human holding some kind of staff released magical power from its tip,

the magical power that the beast had gathered inside its crest backfired and went berserk.

The exact name of this magic was Magical Power Reversal.

A type of dispel magic that interferes with the activation of magical special abilities, it causes magical power to flow backward by inserting one’s own magic into the circulation process.

    [—■■■■■■■■■■!!!!!]

Naturally, as the spell took effect, the uncontrolled internal magical power ran wild, causing the magical beast to feel excruciating pain as if its flesh was being torn to shreds. It collapsed to the ground, writhing violently…

    —CRUNCH!!!

At that moment, a twelve-headed magical beast—a Hydra—that had been concealing its presence all along intervened, biting precisely at the magical beast’s head.

The Hydra’s venom, one of the world’s worst poisons capable of damaging not only the body but also the soul, was injected directly into the magical beast’s brain through the skull that the Hydra had pierced.

At this point, the magical beast was already dead.

The Hydra’s deadly poison flowing into the brain dissolved it into a slimy stew-like substance. The magical beast’s body, with more than half of its head melted by the poison, collapsed to the ground.

And right there, where the magical beast had fallen…

The magical beast hunter team led by Gregory revealed themselves to recover the carcass.

    ※ ※ ※

    “Sophia, I brought the carcass!”

    “Good work, Gregory.”

Today’s harvest: immediately after I returned to the “Nature’s Hut” carrying the carcass of the magical beast resembling a Parasaurolophus dinosaur,

I pleasantly conversed with Sophia who welcomed me back, and took out the magical beast’s body from the essence storage.

The magical beast, this dinosaur-like creature resembling a Parasaurolophus, originally had its brain melted into a slimy mess by the Hydra’s poison, but thinking this state would make processing difficult and potentially dangerous, the carcass had already been “processed.”

Although the Hydra’s poison is a dangerous substance, it is ultimately just “poison,” so with several purification spells, I was able to cleanse the deadly venom that had spread throughout the body.

Additionally, I could restore the damage to the body, which had become mushy due to the spread of the poison, by applying healing magic. As a result, I was able to deliver an intact Parasaurolophus magical beast carcass.

And the purpose of this carcass was quite straightforward…

“How’s the Tarrasque modification coming along?”

    “Very smoothly, Gregory.”

It was to modify the Tarrasque using the bodies of magical beasts that inhabit the southern jungles of the New Continent.

The southern New Continent is home to a large number of reptilian magical beasts that can be used as materials for modifying the Tarrasque, and the bodies of these reptiles—or more precisely, dinosaurs—had no parts that could be wasted.

Moreover, the identity of the magical beasts inhabiting the rainforests of the southern New Continent is… surprisingly, primeval magical beasts.

They are a species that inherited the bloodline of ancient life forms that have inhabited this world since ancient times—in other words, they could be considered direct descendants.

As depicted in various media from my previous life, this world was originally filled with magical power and mystery, but as time passed and civilization grew, mystery gradually declined.

Therefore, primeval magical beasts that directly inherited the bloodline of ancient creatures possess the power of magical beasts from before the decline.

Compared to life forms of this era, they have bodies about 1.5 to 2 times larger, and special abilities that are extremely simple in structure and principle but overwhelming in output.

In addition, the “primeval mystery” unique to primeval magical beasts also serves as a source that amplifies their specs.

In particular, the primeval mystery contained within primeval magical beasts has excellent compatibility with wild magic, to the extent that I was seriously considering transforming into these primeval beasts or crafting equipment from processed materials.

    “……..I finally completed it!!”

[Is this what you were talking about, Master?]

“That’s right, this is my creation!”

First, my attempt to create primeval magical beast equipment using surplus materials was very successful.

While the versatility itself might be inferior to existing equipment, in terms of pure wild magic support, it’s probably of the highest quality.

On the other hand, my attempts to transform into primeval magical beasts using animal transformation magic… mostly ended in miserable failure.

Since the transformation progressed to some extent, unlike with dragonoids or humanoids, animal transformation doesn’t seem completely impossible…

The cause of various problems occurring in these transformation failures stems from the fact that animal transformation magic simply wasn’t compatible with the body of primeval magical beasts.

The primeval mystery contained in primeval magical beasts is… how should I put it?

It’s a special mystery based on magical power that feels somewhat rough, unprocessed, and crude.

However, the core of animal transformation magic is to create and wear a refined form of an animal using purified magical power that resonates with the mysteries of nature, so the compatibility between the two is absolutely terrible.

To use an analogy, it was like trying to fit together and rotate gears of different sizes.

Since I was trying to combine powers that weren’t even compatible in terms of specifications, it’s not surprising that the magic wouldn’t even activate properly, let alone be cast.

Therefore, after much deliberation, I came to a conclusion.

Since I had arrived at the New Continent, a place I might never visit again in my lifetime, I decided to accept one primeval magical beast as an animal friend while traveling the New Continent.

Considering that while animal transformation targeting primeval magical beasts might be impossible, forming an animal friend contract is entirely possible…

This might even expand the range of my animal transformations.

And this was one of the reasons why I actively participated in the modification of the Tarrasque.
