Ch.101Sky Island
by fnovelpia
“When all participants gathered in the Holy Kingdom were showing positive responses to the seizure of the Sky Island and were moving toward the route to the Sky Island to capture it.
The Sky Island was already in battle.
“Eeeeek…!! What are you doing! The enemy is just 10 inferior beings! So why is our great Sky Island still struggling!”
“Those 10 people keep using what appears to be Anti-Magic Shell spells! Magic attacks don’t work at all!”
“Magic cannons are concentrations of mana! And yet they’re ineffective?”
“Yes! They’re dispersing the mana itself! Even magic cannon attacks scatter and convert into ambient mana in the air!”
“Grrrr! Those inferior bastards, where did they learn such techniques…!!”
Contrary to the confident declaration of conquest by the Magic Kingdom Salion, the Sky Island was merely struggling to kill just 10 people.
The Sky Island was dropping massive boulders from the sky using 7th Circle Rain magic and various earth spells, but the opponents were easily blocking the attacks using just a single spell.
Anti-Mana Shell.
One of the sacred spells that was thought to be lost, once used by the Uldur Order during its prime—a spell that nullifies all attacks made of mana.
Because of this spell, the Sky Island couldn’t inflict any proper damage on the ground.
“Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!”
Ebir, an 8th Circle user controlling the Sky Island and the vice-archmage of the Salion Kingdom, was merely pounding his crystal ball in anger.
“The brilliant heritage of the ancient Magic Empire, recovered from mythical era ruins, against such inferior beings…!!”
Their magic cannons weren’t working, and magic wasn’t working either. Even if they tried to push through…
“Damn it! Unicorn! There’s a Hero riding a unicorn!”
KWAAANG—!!!
The Hero riding the unicorn wouldn’t forgive them.
A woman in pure white armor wielding a spear made of light—a Hero straight from the Uldur Order’s scriptures—was attacking them while mounted on a unicorn.
Despite not being a winged Pegasus, the unicorn was flying through the sky with ease, and the Hero kept throwing spears of light, trying to chip away at their shields.
“How’s the Dragon Heart?”
“Still intact! But every time that Hero attacks, the shield becomes a bit more unstable.”
“Damn it… The Hero’s weapon is a concentration of Uldur’s divine power. The divine power is slowly penetrating and repelling our mana. Direct all magic units to counter the Hero’s spiritual attack. I’ll go out to face that virgin myself.”
“Yes!”
For the Sky Island that had proudly destroyed three territories including the Bertrand Territory, this was a humiliating battle.
* * * * *
“Jerome. Can you increase your speed a bit more?”
-I don’t have wings, you know? I’m just kicking the air, so this is the best I can do.
“Then please be more unpredictable. All the mages are looking at me now.”
-You’re popular. As expected of a virgin… ARGHHHH!!!
“Don’t forget that your mane is in my hands right now.”
The Hero Lepil, gripping the mane of her mount and proof of her status as a Hero—the sacred beast Unicorn, Jerome—released his beautiful blue-tinged mane and took hold of the reins again to control him.
“They’re all gathered on this side. Let’s move straight to the right.”
-Okay.
Jerome kicked the air once more and galloped through the sky. His horn, wrapped in blue divine power that resembled his mane, cut through the air as they advanced.
“There they are! Kill them!”
All sorts of magic flew toward her and her mount.
Starting with 5th Circle magic and up to 7th Circle magic, all kinds of spells flew toward them, but it was useless.
The unicorn’s speed was faster than the casting speed of their magic, moving further away and escaping the range of their spells.
“For something they proudly call a Sky Island, it’s not that threatening.”
-That’s what happens when uneducated folks get their hands on new technology. They make a big fuss. If we mix a bit more divine power into their shield, it’ll collapse.
“I’m throwing them continuously.”
KWAAANG—!
As Lepil said, she was holding the reins with one hand while continuously creating and throwing spears with the other.
Her weapon, proof of being Uldur’s Hero, wasn’t some holy sword, sacred spear, or divine shield—just a small ring.
The light drawn from that ring, Uldur’s divine command, was her weapon.
Its speed was incomparable, and its attack power was tremendous, befitting the name of a Hero.
Even though it was a shield established with magic from the mythical era, powered by mana drawn from the Dragon Heart—a source of infinite mana—and set up by the 8th Circle Master Arkham Salion, the great mage, it was being pushed to the brink of breaking.
Theoretically, even if half of the magic cannons mounted on the Sky Island—112 in total—were to attack a single point, the defense should hold, but it was gradually collapsing at the hands of the Hero, a symbol of irrationality.
“Just a little more and…”
“I won’t allow this anymore, NOOOOO——!!”
KWAAANG——!!
An explosion occurred without any warning. Even the unicorn couldn’t avoid this strike that seemed to detonate space itself, and they were caught in the blast.
“How dare an inferior being attack Sky Island Salion! You deserve to die a thousand times! Did you think Uldur’s dog would be allowed to shoot down this Sky Island?!”
KWAAANG—! KWAAANG—!!
Though the Hero and unicorn were hidden by the explosive smoke, Ebir didn’t care.
If they were obscured by the smoke, he would just detonate the smoke itself.
The initial explosion was followed by continuous blasts triggered by Ebir’s hand, burning the sky and spewing black smoke.
KEEENG—!
KAAAANG—!
“Tch! As expected of a Hero!”
A beam of light pierced through the explosive smoke.
The light flew at such speed that even Ebir, an 8th Circle user, couldn’t react, shattering one of his mythical era magical items—Auto Reflect—that protected his body.
The light swept through all the explosive smoke in the sky, revealing Lepil and the unicorn who had been hidden by it.
Without any wounds or even scorch marks from the explosion, she was the very image of a Hero mounted on a unicorn, wielding a spear to cut down evil.
“Oh? Not dead yet?”
-Seems like it’s a magical item from the mythical era? There’s no way those guys could withstand your strike otherwise.
“I know. But they must have a limited number of them!”
KEEENG!
Another spear left her hand.
The light, flying at a speed invisible to the eye, shattered another magical item from the mythical era.
“Ugh…! You dog of God! I’ll show you the true power of Ebir!”
FLAP!
“Ugh…”
-Wow…
Ebir spread his arms and threw off his robe, revealing his body with only his lower garments on. His skinny upper body was exposed to Lepil and Jerome’s eyes.
Dozens of jewels were embedded throughout his upper body, and from what could be seen of his exposed waist, it seemed his lower body was similarly embedded with jewels.
“What is that? A monster? A chimera?”
-Whatever it is, it’s not human.
“Really…?”
-Humans don’t live with such things embedded in their bodies.
As soon as she recognized that he wasn’t human, an intense light began to leak from Lepil’s body.
“Die—! Destruction Of Field!”
CRACK—!
Whether it was a memorized spell he had stored in advance or the power of the jewels embedded in his body, the spell activated without any incantation as soon as he shouted the spell name.
Destruction Of Field.
A 9th Circle magic that supposedly only dragons and gods could use—something an 8th Circle user like him should never be able to cast.
Magic that collapses space itself manifested through his hands.
Of course, it couldn’t be considered a proper 9th Circle spell. If it were, it would have silently obliterated the desired space itself, not just a portion of it.
If one had to classify it, it was stronger than 8th Circle but not quite 9th Circle—about 8.5 Circle magic that began to collapse space.
Cracks spread through space like a spider weaving its web, and everything within that space began to be gathered in one place, as if paper was being crumpled.
“HAHAHAHAHA——!!! Did you see it? Did you feel it? Did you tremble? This is the 9th Circle magic used in the mythical era, Destruction Of Field! A magic that can kill even a dog of God like you!”
The space-collapsing magic, Destruction Of Field, gradually closed in on Lepil and Jerome. But despite facing such powerful magic, Lepil was merely emitting light from her body.
“HAHAHAHAHA——!! Even a Hero fears death, it seems! To show such a reaction before the great magic of Ebir, it’s not shameful! Rather, consider it an honor!”
CRACK—
“Huh…?”
The invisible attack that had been crumpling space was blocked by the intense light emitting from Lepil’s body and could advance no further.
“What…! How is this possible…!!”
KEEENG—!!
Contrary to Ebir’s intentions, by making her recognize that he wasn’t human, the Hero’s spear became even more powerful, annihilating him. The spear that destroyed Ebir didn’t lose its power and lodged itself directly into the Sky Island’s shield.
CRACKLE…!
Due to the continuous throws of the Hero’s spears, and the now even more powerful spears after confirming the enemy wasn’t human, the Sky Island’s shield began to slowly disintegrate.
