Ch.0Prologue
by fnovelpia
[If monsters that transform into humans appear, humanity will fall.]
[They always appear in cycles. Monsters that transform into humans with special powers have driven us to ruin each time they appear. How long can we hold out?]
The 50-year struggle between monsters and humans ended in the monsters’ victory.
The prophesied monsters that could transform into humans used their powers to oppress and throw humanity into chaos.
Humanity faced a total of 11 “human-monsters” over these 50 years.
Each time they appeared, humanity was shaken.
In the final battle, the monsters subjugated humanity, overwhelming worthless trash like me.
“Haha, we’re truly finished.”
I was falling with one arm missing. I could vaguely see the ground growing distant.
Extinction. A word found only in textbooks now applies to humanity.
‘It couldn’t be helped. Promising Jaegers died fighting among themselves, and those monsters that transform into humans are just too powerful.’
Humanity’s extinction was the result of both self-inflicted wounds and overwhelming odds.
I fell straight into a blood-red sea reeking of death. The shadows of massive monsters passed over me.
This is the end.
Not some great hero, just a passing foot soldier—I closed my eyes.
‘So I’m dying as cannon fodder without even making a contract with a summoning spirit. What a pathetic life.’
They say your life flashes before your eyes when you’re about to die, and memories of the Jaeger Academy came to mind.
None of the summoning spirits needed to become an Awakened chose me.
After becoming a laughingstock and crawling at the bottom, this is how I die.
Some people say dying is endless. Why am I dying like this?
There are no miracles. As I was slowly closing my eyes…
[At last, I have found you. Contractor.]
I hear an auditory hallucination just before death. Oh please, go away. Not interested.
My mind is dizzy trying to ignore the hallucination.
[There is still a chance remaining.]
When I opened my eyes, what I saw was a swirling rift in space and time.
“Huh? Huh? Huh?”
My consciousness was sucked right in.
